Nationals Ballpark

For those of you in DC - are there any decent places to eat near the new stadium in DC? What are the food options within the park?

Thanks.

I can't say much for the neighborhood, which is still a year away from being much of anything. They have a large selection of places off the concourse. Ben's Chilli Bowl, a landmark U Street establishment from back in the day, has set up a satellite location on the concourse. I can't say if they carry over the flava and atmosphere of the original Ben's.

Cool - thanks.

Are you going this week?

Maybe.

I'm on a day-to-day lifestyle.

Well, e-mail me if you go Wednesday. I can access my mail from my phone.

Excellent.

I tell you this, Ratzinger covers a lot of ground out there in center.

I went to Ben's Chili Bowl last summer. Great place.

I've been to Washington a gazillion times, but somehow I've never been in the part of the city where the new ballpark is located. It looks like its sandwiched between two military installations. Perhaps you can eat at the commissary.

AG, is there a Metro stop nearby?

The "Navy Yard" stop is right there--on the Green Line.

Unfortunately, we'll miss you - we're only going to be there tomorrow.

I just realized that there are no weekend Mets games in DC this year.

AND there are no weekend Nationals games at Shea.

The schedule is really nuts.

True that. Much to my dismay, all 9 Mets games in DC are during the week (as are all 9 Phillies games). Makes no sense.

That W pretzel is quite enticing...unless the Mets fall behind.

I'll have to wait for another trip to try the pretzel - can't eat bread this week. But it is cute - kind of like those Mickey Mouse shaped ice cream pops at Disney World.

We'll check out for ourselves whether Nationals Park leans more to cute or to cool.

Noah's Pretzel's is an interesting local company.

]We are the ONE AND ONLY Pretzel shop to serve a Gluten and Casein Free (GF/CF) pretzel for adults and kids having restricted dietary needs.

That's cool - as a parent, it has to be difficult when your child can't partake in the kinds of things that other families take for granted. Kudos to Noah's for addressing one of these needs.

You'd think between the Mets' first trip in and the Papal visit, there'd be some sort of chametz dispensation in the air...though probably not.

Thanks - I'm printing out the guide.

No need for matzah brei - I'm just avoiding bread this week. Chili cheese fries work for me :)

yeah, actually, that's one really cool thing with the park. a lot of their featured restaurants are local places. ben's, noah's, boardwalk fries, red hot & blue, gifford's.

I'm not in DC yet - we're making it a day trip (yeah, it's a lot of driving. But my hubby can get a half day of work in and MiniKnight can get a half day of school in). I'm excited that we'll get to see Johan pitch in person.

BTW, thanks again to bmfc1 for the menu link. MiniKnight tends to take a long time to make such monumental decisions as what to have for dinner, so it's great for us that he'll have a chance to weigh his options in advance :)

The curly W pretzels (to say nothing of the company) kicked Aase.
