With Pope Benedict in town here is a list to ponder.

I don't imagine the pope will be wearing any of those shirts, but I think the top one would look good on him.

I saw a young boy (maybe about 13 years old) in a pet store a few weeks ago wearing a t-shirt that said, in screaming large letters TOTAL JESUS FREAK.

When I was 13, a long three decades ago, I never saw kids wearing anything like that. (Anyone who did would have been mocked mercilessly, I'm sure.) My wife thought that maybe the kid was being ironic, but I kind of doubt it.

When I was 16 I saw a t-shirt in some kind of gun or hunting magazine - thought it hilarious and ordered it.

When I wore it I was being ironic and thought there was no one who could have possibly taken that shirt seriously.

Looking back though, I suppose I was being naive in that assessment.

The shirt had a picture of a green beret weilding a rapidly firing machine gun and said 'I'd Rather Be Killing Communists'

I thought it was a hoot.

I got in a certain amount of trouble back in 1965 for hanging The Realist's "Fuck Communism" poster in my office at SUNY New Palt.

I'm guessing his age is close to the year he mentioned.

i would proudly wear such a shirt, but i doubt his clothes from when he was 16 would fit my 6'5" 220 lb. frame

Considering I was 5'11" and weighed about 125 lbs at the time, I would agree.

You could use it as an ironic washcloth maybe.

There was an American guy at my college/university who had 3 of the "Jesus is my homeboy" shirts in 3 different colors.

In last night's game at one point Angel (Pagan) was at the plate, (Ryan) Church was the winning run on second and Jesus (Colome) was pitching.

Was that when they showed the fans flapping their arms like chickens? (Gary called it the "Angel wave.")

LOL. I would totally wear that today.

Although, I may very well be naive.

Seriously, if I am naive. . .HOW AM I TO KNOW?!?!?!

AHHHH!

When I was in college, the evangelical Christians on campus would wear t-shirts like the one above. On the back was a close-up of Christ's wrist with a nail piercing it and a oil-geyser of blood spurting out and the phrase "HIS PAIN, YOUR GAIN." Apart from being totally gross, I was annoyed that this and many other t-shirts were appropriating commercial images and putting Jesus in them which I found disrespectful.

i don't mind the religious shirts coopting commercial imaregy when they're done cleverly and well. for instance, i like the front of the crush/christ shirt, and the reese's/jesus shirt works too. the starbucks shirt is close, but falls just short. the lost shirt ever shorter. it'd be better without the fine print.

the you tube and myspace shirts are embarrassing.

You know, you can call me anti-materialistic if you want to but I just don't think it's right for somebody to make a T-shirt, put a person's picture on it, and then not to give that person part of the percentage of the profits. ... I mean, look at this. It's amazing. If you buy T-shirt like this, it's not just for the T-shirt you buy it -- it's because the Pope is on it. If you just want a T-shirt, you can go to J. C. Penney's 'stead of going through all the traffic and crowds. But the Pope, from this T-shirt, I'll tell you what he got. He got absolutely zero. It was a rip-off. First, they did it to Mr. Bill, now the Pope.

I studied law in Australia. 20-30 per cent of the students at my university were from North America. I work for a Chicago-based firm in Sydney.
