NBA Playoffs

This will be the first time I am into the playoffs since 1998.

----

Great first round matchup in Suns/Spurs. This could be the West Conference Final matchup. At this point I don't think the Suns will ever beat the Spurs in a playoff series. They were up 16 early in this game and up 9 in the fourth quarter. Michael Finley hit a 3 pointer to tie at the end of regulation and Tim Duncan hit his first 3 of the year at the end of OT to tie for a second OT. Spurs win in the second despite a crazy 3 pointer from Nash at the end of the second OT to tie. Incredible game.

Part of me would like to see Lakers-Celtics in the Finals. Another part of me would like to see both those teams go out in the first round.

However, I despise SAS for more reasons than you can imagine. The irony of this is that my favorite player in the NBA plays for them.

Wow, Triple Dee, it's pretty impressive how many US sports you keep up with. Do you follow Australian sports too?

Oh, and go Celtics. I'm not much of an NBA fan but I'm going to be one of those obnoxious bandwagon jumpers for these playoffs.

I don't think the Pistons will be any match for the Celtics. They think waaay to highly of themselves. I'm sure it'll go six games and that the Pistons will play well but I would bet the house on the Celtics (in other words, pu all your money on Detriot.)

Except for the conference finals starting in game 4 or so, I have little interest in the east. I'm fired up more for the west I guess.

Considering I lived over 5 years in North America, perhaps not so impressive.

Like I said elsewhere, I have an interest in some Aussie sports, but the only two sports I am passionate about are football (soccer) and baseball.

Chris Paul = wow.

I will be perfectly content, if NO wins the whole thing.

But boy, Tony Parker sure knows how to bring out his "A" game, when it matters. But the Suns, they look totally snakebitten at the moment.

I really don't like Varejao, he's such a fat slob.

And a fat slob who flops at that.

Awesome game between the Celtics and Pistons tonight. Celtics lead 98-94 with 2 minutes left.

The only problem is that I find these late-game foul-a-thons tough to watch.

The Celtics hold on to win 106-102. I almost had a haht attack.

It's baseball season for crissakes.

With the Celtics and Flyers both doing well, I actually paid a little bit of attention to hockey and basketball for the first time in a long time this year. I'm enjoying this Celtics run.

Hey at least this regards a real-live sporting event happening right now. There are people posting in endless threads about the Jets and Orangemen. Go criticize them.

I've always felt basketball should be played on the "first to reach __ points" rather than by time. That way, instead of fouling, you would get intense defense as the game reached the end.

offseason football and college basketball are both more interesting than the NBA.

Then why are you reading this thread?

Looks like David Stern (and much of the media) got their wet dream matchup.

Will have a completely new feel for it this time around in some regards, though knowing the NBA and ABC it won't be picked up on.

No original Boston Garden, no Great Western Forum. Both Johnny Most and Chick Hearn are in the great big broadcasting booth in the sky.

Course stars are still the focus, though this is the first time the focal point of the Celtics (if you consider Pierce less than Garnett) is not "home grown."

Another angle is that if Phil wins this one, he will break the tie against Auerbach, and do it against Red's franchise.

I kind of like the angle of it taking all this time for the Celtics to make it back, while the Lakers have rebooted a couple of times with successes along the way. Love for there to be a pre-game feature with questions as to why exactly did a "flagship" franchise take so long in righting their ship. And what does it say about the NBA being a star driven (as opposed to a complete team effort) league where once again the presence of a future HOFer can bring a moribund franchise to the brink of an NBA title?

Should be a good one.

Ugh, how I hate the NBA. Just end this fucking season and put the pituitary cases away for the summer.

ESPN and ABC pounding the historical significance of the matchup into my brain, yet I still remain apathetic to the whole boring league, it's me-first stars, and painful marketing.

This has been a great season, especially the west playoffs. The first time I've really paid attention in ten years.

Excellent game to start the finals.

Boston wins. It was not a fluke. Ray looks like he's back to his old self.

Yay Celtics. Of course I went to bed before the game started. Why the 9 pm starts?

Hey Willets, any local word on how Pierce is holding up the day after?

The Celtics were down 24 points and just won the game 97-91. Hokie smokes!

This is like the 2004 ALCS in one game.

Celtics up by 30 points in the 4th quarter. Looks like Boston will have another championship.

17!

That one's for Reggie Lewis and Kevin Gamble and hell, even for Antoine Walker and all the guys I loved after the Bird/McHale/Parish/Ainge/DJ years.

Frayed Knot

7 franchises have won the last 26 NBA championships.

Maybe if baseball were to adopt a salary cap then they too could have that kind of parity.
(26 seasons = 17 different MLB franchises)

Lots of honking and hooting last night. And fireworks. People were setting off freakin' fireworks.

Luckily it was quiet around my house, but I could hear all this in the distance.

How about one for Lenny Bias?

I had Bias in that post, then deleted him before I posted it. Don't mess around with drugs, kids. He gets no love from me.

Can't forget Dee Brown.

I was thinking yesterday how sweet it was having sat through Erik Williams, Eric Montross, Dominique Wilkins (at age 50), Dino Radja and Kenny Anderson.

And Brian Shaw, too, but he's a Laker now, so tough noogies on him.
