The Pope visits ground zero...

A very moving and special day to many of the families that were permanently effected by the horrific events of September 11, 2001.

He was at my grade school yesterday, then Yankee Stadium after Ground Zero. This guy has a penchant for visiting places marked by trauma.

]He was at my grade school yesterday

And here I thought you were much older

The last two mornings the pope's activities have been covered on something like a dozen channels simultaneously in the NYC area.

Looks like the Cardinals have a home game at Yankee Stadium today.

As a baseball fan I love how they've incorporated the diamond into the design of the "church" for today.

Not to give Kase any more ammunition, but I tend to refer to MFYS, Fenway, Wrigley, Tigers Stadium and others as "Mother Churches Of Major League Baseball."

I guess Shea is just a regular church, same as what Citi Field, and MFY III will be.

Though sadly the mainstream media will drive the whole "Mother Church/Cathedral/Home Office of Baseball" monikers down everyone's throats with that new place.

The Pope is celebrating the Mass from above second base. They were going to seat him at shortstop, but Jeter asked him to move.

The Pope at Yanqui stadium is knocking both the NBA (ABC) and the NHL (NBC) playoffs off the air in the NYC market.
Various golf matches are also being pre-empted.

Proof that there is a God who loves us and wants us to be happy.

Il Papa takes a curtain call after his homily.

Then the congregation started the "Lets go Yankees" clap-clap-clap-clap-clap chant. I kid you not. Although they probably were chanting something about the pope and not the Yankees, it wasn't clear.

Williets, that last post wasn't up to the high standard you set with the two before that.
Those were priceless.

If I ever sat down to watch a Mets playoff game and it was bumped off the air by some news coverage of any less than the start of World War III, I'd be very miffed.

That post was true though, the previous were jokes.

The difference, of course, is that if either of those baseketball or hockey games involved local teams I'm sure the local affiliates wouldn't have pre-empted them.
In this case it was the Pope playing for the home team kicking athletes from the likes of Detroit and San Antonio off the air. Kinda of like when the network affiliates in San Fran & LA took the Knicks playoff game off the air to show the OJ chase.

The Mets are undefeated with Benedict on US soil.

Pity that Shepherd One is scheduled to depart for Rome before the conclusion of tonight's game.

Oh wait, it looks like he's flying Alitalia. He may be here a while.

True but the Mets aren't a local team in the market I live in. In Philadelphia, they'd probably bump a Mets playoff game for coverage of a visit from Sylvester Stallone.

That's a great observation. So in New York, the order of importance goes:

1. Knicks
2. Pope
3. Other playoff basketball

If the Knicks are good, yes.

The Knicks in their current state, however, not only rank behind the Pope but also behind the Archduke of Canterbury, the Viceroy of Bombay, and even the Pastor at Our Lady of the Tumbleweed in Odessa, Texas.

The Pastor at Our Lady of the Tumbleweed in Odessa, Texas is a great man.

I watched the CBS coverage of the event , they had a woman on who lost a son that day , she heads some group looking to make Fresh Kills a sacred site and she was really pissed that Benedict didn't address that issue while there. It sounded crazy really , like it was all about her and what she wanted , I am so sick and tired of people like her.
