Could Be Worse

...tho not much.

April nonperformers

April was an especially cruel month for big sluggers and pull hitters, particularly left handed ones. Ryan Howard (.172), David Ortiz (.184), Carlos Delgado (.198), Jason Giambi (.164) and Travis Hafner (the big winner at .210) were often unable to hit through exaggerated shifts and wound up with understated batting averages.

And even worse:

Worst Signing So Far: Andruw Jones has been nothing short of awful at the plate for the Dodgers, with a .159 batting average and 29 Ks in 88 at-bats.

And we could be doing a lot worse than Wags...

Closing time?: A lot of closers were struggling, most notably alltime saves leader Trevor Hoffman, who was said by one scout to now possess "well below average stuff.'' Other shaky closers included Joe Borowski, Lyon and Eric Gagne. Manny Corpas, an October hero last year, was already replaced as Rockies closer.

The Dodgers appear to have been taken to the cleaners with AJ, and the Braves appear to have folded brilliantly. Makes me want to kiss my sweet Castillo.
