Too bad that baseball swings guy doesn't have a video of Dodger hitters. I'd pay to see him do Ron Cey.

Time for the Mets hitters to get untracked tonight.

Church!

I once saw a lethal bantamweight named Hiroki Kuroda

Frayed Knot
May 06 2008 08:23 PM

Beltran a late scratch in favor of Pagan - no details yet.

Hu's on short for LA

Furball out for Dodgers w/sore back

Hiroki Kuroda, Rookie Carroca - same thing.

There's a lot of good reasons to hit Church 2nd but the 1st inning HR on the road is prolly the best.

themetfairy
May 06 2008 08:39 PM

The report on Beltran - he was scratched from the lineup because of flu-like symptoms.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 08:42 PM

How about that 6-7-8-9?

themetfairy
May 06 2008 08:44 PM

3-0 so far. Long ball in the first inning, small ball in the second.

Frayed Knot
May 06 2008 08:46 PM

Maybe not so lethal a bantamweight

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 08:56 PM

Yuk, shoulda had 2 more that inning.

DWright seems to be swingin' n' missin' quite a bit lately.

Sorry - too much DodgerBlues today.

You can't stop Moises Alou you can only hope to contain him

themetfairy
May 06 2008 09:14 PM

Holy Moises! He steals home!

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 09:22 PM

All this threatening and our run comes on a steal of home. Gotta deliver a kill shot one of these times.

Frayed Knot
May 06 2008 09:23 PM

Maybe it's just the small sample we've seen but, for the most part, these Japanese pitchers are a chore to watch.

Even when they're good - Nomo for a while or Matsuzaka now - they take forever to throw and are forever nibbling around the zone and use up a ton pf pitches.
Dice-K gave up one hit thru 7 the other day but [u:ab896dd7c1]walked 8[/u:ab896dd7c1] and another low-scoring game took 3-1/2 hours. Now here we are 75 minutes into this one and it's only the bottom of the 3rd.

Never saw such a group for complaining about how runs are scored.

Rockin' Doc
May 06 2008 09:27 PM

Having just checked in on the games progress, I thought Scarlet had lost her mind when she said Alou had stolen home. I would have bet that Alou couldn't steal home with an Ak-47 and a Ferrari get away car. I can't wait to see this one on the highlights.

It's not how, it's just that there should be more of them.

Between all the hits, walks, errors, steals, sacs, etc., it's a bunch of sound and fury signifying ... well, not as much as it should.

It was pretty unbelievable. Ron and Gary commented that a lot of people will be scratching their heads when they read about the game in the morning papers.

Twas the old delayed double-steal deal.
Alou on 3rd when Pagan on 1st takes off for 2nd -- Moises breaks on the throw. Was helped out by a double-clutching SS and a high throw home but was legit safe.

Figgy playing with fire too - and this lead, which should be bigger, could disappear to nothing in a hurry if he's not careful.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 09:38 PM

It's a whole new ballgame.

TheOldMole

4th career steal of home for Alou

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 09:43 PM

Alou's getting smashy.

A breath of fresh air for the American League.

Rockin' Doc
May 06 2008 09:51 PM

Thanks for the description, Knot. The Mets were likely fortunate that Furcal and his lrocket arm had the night off.

It didn't take long for Kuo to extinguish that Met uprising.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 10:03 PM

Ouch. Castillo drilled in the kree.

TheOldMole
May 06 2008 10:03 PM

Staying in.

Rockin' Doc
May 06 2008 10:18 PM

I know Kuo throws hard and is a pretty good pitcher, but the Mets are making him look like Sandy Koufax. Five k's in 1.2 innings of relief is pretty sick.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 10:24 PM

Oh for fuck's sake.

Why do I stay up for this?

I hat baseball.

Gwreck
May 06 2008 10:37 PM

Let me be the first to say I've had about fucking enough of Hong Chi Kuo.

P.S. Whatever stat Gary and Ron were using for Kuo's "amazing" numbers versus the Mets obviously did not include 2006 NLDS Game 2, where we beat him just fine.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 06 2008 10:45 PM

Yup.

Meantime, I think this may be the last night in a while we'll be seeing Figueroa. Perhaps they whack him when Wise is ready, skip his turn next time around, which I belive is pssible, then see if Tony Armas or Ruddy Lugo are up to the task. If we're employing a get-by strategy until Pedro returns I think the "hot hand " may be the way to go.

Gwreck
May 06 2008 10:47 PM

Well, Figueroa's next scheduled start would be against the Nationals on Monday - I wouldn't be too adverse to giving him that start. But I'd rather not have him go against the MFYs next weekend.

Cy Young Chi Kuo.

This team has been pretty rotten in LA so far this week.

metsguyinmichigan

Bad things happen on the West Coast. Other than 'Zona, we never seem to do well out there. (Not that 'Zona is on the West Coast, but we always play them on the West Coast trips.)

Inside the park homer? Yeesh.

Can't say I was shocked when I saw the score this morning , a bit stunned to see it featured an inside the parker.

The boo for the record was for David Wright mistaking Delgado for Wilt Chamberlain following the inside-the-parker.

Wright completely murdered the Mets last night and owes me at least an hour of sleep. I fibnally gave up after he whiffed with Church on 2nd in the 8th. Church's 1-2-3 DP was also a killer. Figgy? Yeah he was pretty frickin suck too. Give me Tony Armas Jr.

soupcan
May 07 2008 07:44 AM

You know what though - there were two plays earlier in the game that if Wright didn't make would've put the game in the Doyers pocket early.

As easily as this game should've ended 8-3 Mets, it became a 5-4 L.A. win.

May 07 2008 08:16 AM

Wright needs a night off.

Here's hoping that Beltran's pays off.
