Why him? Why today? (re-estabished)

Charlie Williams?

Oh yeah that too.

You might guess Willie Mays would be the more popular lookup. But you can go anywhere to find out about him.

I love the memories section over at UMDB , a poster there claims that Williams was the only Mets player ever to be born in Flushing , that's just great information.

Is that still true?

Yup: http://ultimatemets.com/birthplace.php

Now that's good trivia.

I know he was essentially a warm body thrown in with the cash Mrs. Payson sent Horace Stoneham and that Willie Mays was no longer Willie Mays by 1972...but to be the guy traded for WILLIE MAYS...that's almost as cool as being the only Met born in Flushing.

I was living in San Francisco when that trade went down. Giants fans despised Charlie Williams for being that guy who was traded for Willie Mays even though he was okay out of the bullpen from '74 through '76.

Just as with Charlie Williams the day before, it was the anniversary of a trade. (That causes a link to the player page to appear on the UMDB home page.)

Sounds like you're stuffing the ballot box.

Ron Swoboda is getting a much larger-than-usual number of clicks today.

The volume was high enough that I was worried that he might have died, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Has Ron been in the news today? I can't find any reason for his surge today.

He was on Mets Weekly yesterday.

Eddie Yost yesterday was a rare non-player to lead the UMDB in daily hits. (And he's currently enjoying a healthy lead in today's clicking as well.)

I'm sure it has something to do with confused web surfers looking for information on fired Milwaukee manager Ned Yost.

They aren't related, are they?

Not that I'm aware of.

Yet thanks to Doug Melvin you can refer to either Yost as the Walking Man.

Huge numbers today for the Bob Millers. When I checked the stats a few minutes ago, I thought that someone named Bob Miller must have flown his plane into a jewelry store and beheaded a cat. We're talking that kind of huge.

Turns out, the Bobs have Paul Lukas to thank:

Not so for the Bobby Jonses?

He didn't link to the UMDB for Bobby Jones. Instead he used soxprospects.com and rnding3rd.com.

These numbers are astounding. I know I'm probably the only one who cares about this stuff, but what the heck.

Bob G. Miller is getting the greater benefit of these links, because he's listed first. But he's already in fifth place in single-day volume, and Bob L. Miller is in ninth place. There are many hours to go yet, so I'll keep peeking to see how much they both rise on the list.

Before this day is out, Bob G. Miller will have received more clicks today than he did in the last nine and a half years. (At the moment, he's received 41.5% of his total clicks today.)

Happened to notice the other day that Rich Rodriguez won the day.

Huh?

="The AP on 11/22":2cheyjei]In coach Rich Rodriguez‘s first season, the Wolverines (3-9, 2-6) lost the most games in school history, missed a bowl trip for the first time in 34 years and had the first losing season in 41 years. [/quote:2cheyjei]
That's got to generate a lot of Wolverine clicks.
