Judge Judy

My dad lives in San Diego with his wife of 2 years. Last week I went out there because he was having surgery and they both needed a bit of assistance. Everything went well, dad is home recuperating and the prognosis is all good.

While I was there however I was watching TV with my 'step-mother'. I came in the den and she was watching 'Judge Judy'. I sat down and joined her. The commercial comes and she starts to fast forward. I was astonished.

'You can fast forward live TV?' I said, thinking that cable TV in Southern Cali was totally more bitchin' than my lame northeast Cablevision.

'No, I recorded it' she said.

Now I can appreciate Judge Judy as much as anyone and of all the TV justices, she is by far the most entertaining. But record her? I was amazed.

My step-mom went on to tell me that she of course only records the new episodes (they still make new ones?).

My smugness was short-lived as I was slapped into reality. Judge Judy is the number fucking one show in daytime!

Step-mom just emailed me this: Who knew?

I dunno. I have something called a J-O-B which kind of gets in the way of daytime TV watching, but still #1 is a pretty big deal I guess.

I used to watch Petticoat Junction every single morning about 50 years ago when my son was in kindergarten. TVLand rules!

I've never once watched a TV court show.
I remember the popularity of 'Wapner' when that was novelty new and how many friends (particularly those in or headed for law school) were SOOOO into it - but I just couldn't see the attraction.

Now I see commercials for what must be 5 or 6 different ones all either going head-to-head or following each other.
Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Judge Judy has it made , lives in NY , goes to LA every week for a few days and tapes a weeks worth of shows , pulls down a cool $30 million a year....

I really miss the old game show days. I love the Game Show Network. I'm a total game show dork.

Daytime, sick day TV viewing begins and ends with the Price is Right.

STill have not seen it with Drew Carey in the Bob Barker role.

Drew Carey is actually very good. He brings something very different; he's much snarkier. I enjoy him.

Westchester County politician Jeanne Pirro - who once considered a run against Hillary Clinton for Senate - will have a judge TV show built around her starting this fall.

I didn't know Judge Judy was still on either.

If I were to guess at the top daytime shows, my guesses would be Oprah, The View, Ellen, and The Price is Right. (Only because they're the ones I hear about most often. I'm put off by Oprah's talk of angels and fate. I once watched a few minutes of The View and it was unbearable. I've seen Ellen once or twice and it's okay, but nothing I'd bother recording.)
