Well-written (from the Daily News!) way of saying "Nothing new" on the Soler front.

I didn't know the whole story. What a scumbag!

Is it 100% certain that when (if) he does make it to MLB that he will play for the Mets? Do they have his rights or whatever? Or after a couple of years do other teams have a shot at him again?

Soler a scumbag? Or Cubas?

Cubas.

Cubas.

Considering the impressions we get in reading about some of the agents, he must be a real doozy to have had MLB cut him out of the action.

Cubas has a long history of shady shenanigans. On the other hand, he's made quite a few former Castro socialists very rich young men, for what that's worth. He could be the subject of a very interesting book. I'm sure the Cuban government files on him go very deep.

I assume the same rules reserve Soler for the Mets organization for the same length of time any player is reserved under the general agreement.

The Mets signed Soler to a 3-year deal IIRC, and I believe it was a ML deal to boot.
None of which means that he's in any danger of becoming property of another team any time soon - he'll still be NYM property for 6 ML seasons - it's just that the Mets are burning time and money watching him pitch in essentially intra-squad exhibitions rather than against real competition. If it is a 'Major League' contract it also means that his "option" years are counting down as he runs in place. IOW, once he does finally get sprung, they'll have less time to keep him in the minors (assuming he'll need it) unless the Mets can somehow get some sort of special dispensation based on the circumstances.

It is kind of ironic that the mighty and powerful MLP Players' Union can be fought to a standstill by one shady agent.
