The National Championships are going on this weekend in Reno and if you want you see how the pros played their games you can follow them on the net.

Here is Nigel Richards, the top-ranked player in the world:

Finally, a link to "I'm Stuck" which in my mind is the Greatest Non-Baseball Thread In CPF History.

I was going to throw up Word Wars in the film thread. It's a movie documentary made by a friend of Stefan Fatsis, and pretty much follows the same four freaky guys as Word Freak. Richards and Brian Cappaletto remain a mystery (or just maybe too boring to profile).

Haven't seen "Word Wars," but I really enjoyed the Fatsis book. I read it when we traveled to a wedding once; I got so hooked that we actually drove a half hour to find a TRU store so we could buy a Scrabble game; my wife and I sat in the gazebo of the hotel playing all morning.

Is GI Joel in the movie?

Yeah, the plot follows GI Joel, Matt, Marlon, and Joe Edley. Each seems just as detached as you fear they are in the book.

Marlon seems to hate everyone, but caught off-guard, he and Matt seem to have a genuine trust, which is all the more touching when you see that he's a paranoiac race-baiter and Matt is drug-addled compulsive gambler. (Actually, Marlon isn't doing so well on the dope front either.)

(crackpot amateur psychology)The nature of the game, where players develop so much skill at a game that still leaves so much to luck, basically has driven just about everyone into deep neurosis, except Edley. Edley is therefore perhaps the least interesting of the quartet, but I think he may be a borderline personality disorder.(/crackpot amateur psychology)

I just re-registered at play.games.com

I was like high 1500s, low 1600s when I quit that room a year ago.

Now I'm trying to regain my greatness, except:

Tiles left in bag: 93
Tiles left in bag: 86
bloodymurder: I SAID FAST ORANGE ONLY
bloodymurder: HONKS
Kablamm: I'll be orange in a second, champ
bloodymurder: SIT THERE AND THINK ABOUT BECOMING AN ORANGE I WILL BE ELSEWHERE IN THE MEAN TIME ENJOY
Kablamm: strap em on

And so we wait.

T on the top center triple word square, top line clear

My rack: E E I N O R R

My word: ORIENTER

challenged successfully, then blocked.

REORIENT would have won me 77 points

I'm gonna stab myself
