5/17 IGT Subway Series Gay Dame in Da Boogie Down Bronx

I know he's not popular around here, but Chris Russo is doing some entertaining radio. Goofing on the Yankees taking their sweet time telling the fans that last night's game was called (he believes it was more to get the players, and then the media out before the multitudes as opposed to the capitialistic capitalistic reasons) Russo is acting as if the game is slated for an 11:05 start!

Call me easily amused all you want, the guy can entertain.

Lineups to follow.

He also took a hit at the Mets for their handling of the Cincy rain game.
But he was funny about the start time. He joked that he saw Santana and Pettit starting to warm up in the bullpen.

First two batters striking out, double boooooo

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 11:15 AM

Well that blew!

Okay Johan, your turn.

SteveJRogers

Damon with a leadoff walk, Jeter slams a one out homer off of Santana.

2-0

DAMN, @#*()$*()$A@#&*%A@#%@

Where the F was Alou going? Beltran and Reyes K on balls at eye level, Alou gets picked off... they still have their heads up their rears.

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 11:42 AM

Santana is not looking good so far.

Yup. Looks like that team meeting meant bumpkis in terms of on the field, for the moment anyway.

MFS62
May 17 2008 11:49 AM

Fucking Jeter.
The way they've been playing, two runs in an insurmountable hole for the Mets to climb out of.

Nice going Jose, swinging at another pitch out of the strike zone. Normally, Michael Kay spouting off about how you can't compare Reyes with Jeter would piss me off but not now.

Heh, yeah, the best SS in New York is on the MFY disabled list right now!

bmfc1
May 17 2008 12:01 PM

For the first positive note of the day, great block by Brian Schneider. A noted Mets blogger has scoffed at Schneider's fielding prowess but that was a great play. And even Michael Kay said that it was a good call.

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 12:06 PM

Mets get on the board as Chuch scores off of Damon's weak ass arm.

bmfc1
May 17 2008 12:17 PM

What an unbelievable call.

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:19 PM

Bases loaded no outs? Delgado and Easley just cannot make those kinds of outs in that situation. They need to be able to hit a bleeping sac fly.

Nymr83
May 17 2008 12:20 PM

bases loaded nobody out for Delgado, nothing
1 out for Easley, nothing
what the fuck?

Mendoza Line
May 17 2008 12:20 PM

Nice, nice at-bat from Schneider! Game is tied.

Nymr83
May 17 2008 12:20 PM

yeah Schneider!

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:21 PM

See, Schneider gets it! I like this guy.

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 12:21 PM

Pettitte loses Schneider to walk in the tying run, but there are two outs for Castillo.

Top of the 4th BTW.

Nymr83
May 17 2008 12:22 PM

infield hit! way to let it roll pettite

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 12:23 PM

YEAH BABY! Pettitte lets the ball go, INF hit and the Mets take the lead!

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:25 PM

Break it open, Jose! C'mon!

Nymr83
May 17 2008 12:26 PM

well 3 runs is not bad but the mets really could have had a huge inning there

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:26 PM

Or not.

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:29 PM

Giambi's batting .179? Guess the thong's not working.

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:32 PM

Santana is a monster!

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 12:32 PM

I hope that I can borrow a line from Lord Vader about this game, that this will be a day LONG remebered!

A lot of work needs to be done, especially in this game, LETS GO METS!

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 12:40 PM

Alou gets hit! Of course, that might put him back on the DL for a month...

Let's go Carlos!

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 12:45 PM

At least we are making Pettitte work, hopefully the Mets will get the crappy underbelly of the MFY pen

Al Leiter = traitor.

metsguyinmichigan

Petitte's thrown close to 120 pitches, Santana only 61. I bet we're done with Andy.

bmfc1
May 17 2008 01:00 PM

This is the first game I've watched on YES (via mlb.tv) this year... I was surprised to hear two former Mets doing color: Leiter and Cone. Did they play for anybody else?

The camera work on YES is excellent.

="bmfc1"]Al Leiter: "It's definitely a Yankees town."

I flipped to YEECH for a half-inning and heard that discussion. I think he was referring to when the Mets were trying to establish their street cred in the early Subway Series games.

But he is a traitor.

That's a reasonable interpretation, G-Fafif... I don't think he was being that thoughtful but perhaps.

Only 71 pitches for Johan.

Unless it's when the Mets are hitting, then you gotta love it.

Rockin' Doc
May 17 2008 01:45 PM

It amazes me how Santana seems to give up so few hits, but such a high percentage of the hits he does allow are home runs. It just seems like he either gets hitters out or they hit a home run.

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 01:45 PM

I don't like Jeter. Just don't like him.

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 01:46 PM

Wagner time. 4 out save please.

I think it's because Santana challenges the hitters , goes right after them.

You knew it was gonna come to this. Hopefully we're not as nervous in the 9th.

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 01:50 PM

Wags gets to back up his tough talk with a 4-out save.

bmfc1
May 17 2008 01:50 PM

Willie had to go to Wagner in that situation, but didn't Billy once say that it was tough, or uncomfortable, to pitch and then rest and then go out again?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 17 2008 01:52 PM

I'd like to wreck this winnebago

Rockin' Doc
May 17 2008 01:53 PM

He only needed three pitches to get Matsui, so I don't see that as a problem. He's been talking tough about stepping up and coming through when the team needs them, well here a chance for him to practice what he's been preaching.

Rockin' Doc
May 17 2008 01:55 PM

Beltran starts it off with a triple against Jaba. The Mets need to cash him in.

Nymr83
May 17 2008 01:55 PM

This was one of those (rare imo) outings by a pitcher where their ERA for the game doesnt reflect how good the outing was, i think Santana was very good today and challenging Abreu with nobody on base and a lead was the right move even if he homered.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 17 2008 02:01 PM

Awesome Delgado.

Rockin' Doc
May 17 2008 02:01 PM

Rockin' Doc
May 17 2008 02:06 PM

I hope the Mets didn't inconveniance Wagner by making him sit too long while they scored an insurance run for him.

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 02:06 PM

Three outs to go...

SteveJRogers
May 17 2008 02:11 PM

Oh boy, Wagner is doing his best (insert your least favorite all-time Met closer) imitation

metsguyinmichigan
May 17 2008 02:11 PM

C'mon Wags, bear down.

Here comes the Red Sox hater Duncan!

John Cougar Lunchbucket

metsguyinmichigan

Wags will be standing by his locker answering questions today.

Bad day to be Bob Klapisch's dog. You know it's getting kicked tonight.

Hagin & Rose made a big ado about a 30 second conversation between Wagner and Delgado as Wagner was starting his warm ups in the 8th.

Wagner with Ed Coleman says that it was simply about positioning.

Yeah.
Wagner was making sure Carlos would have his ass positioned in front of his locker after the game, so he could talk to the press.
