IGT #42 - Mets at Braves - May 20 (Game 1)
Gwreck May 20 2008 10:00 AM |
Mets
AG/DC May 20 2008 10:03 AM |
Shouldn't Castro face Glavine and Schneider get the righty in the nightcap?
Gwreck May 20 2008 10:04 AM |
One would think, although perhaps it's Maine-Schneider familiarity?
seawolf17 May 20 2008 10:07 AM |
Schneider is 10-for-37 career off Glavine... maybe that's a factor? Castro only has four ABs off him.
metirish May 20 2008 10:08 AM |
I have a gut feeling that Willie had a gut feeling on that call.
seawolf17 May 20 2008 10:08 AM |
FWIW, Castillo and Alou both have great career numbers against him.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 10:10 AM |
If the Mets beat Glavine today, will that be seen as proof that Glavine is really a Met at heart?
AG/DC May 20 2008 10:10 AM |
A lefty without a breaking pitch? I'm not surprised to hear that Alou has battered him.
Willets Point May 20 2008 10:13 AM |
Proof that the Mets have good hitters or that Glavine sucks, at the very least.
AG/DC May 20 2008 10:40 AM |
I think maybe it would have been a good game to sit Church, and get Easley in right.
metirish May 20 2008 10:42 AM |
Not a bad idea , Easley had a rough time of it playing second last time out.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:03 AM |
Black caps and jerseys again today.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:13 AM |
Castillo:
soupcan May 20 2008 11:13 AM |
Take that Johnny Lunchbucket.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:13 AM |
It's like seeing Bud Harrelson hit a home run!
metirish May 20 2008 11:16 AM |
Out of the infield?
G-Fafif May 20 2008 11:18 AM |
Glavine must have thought he was still a Met and pictured Castillo as a Marlin.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:20 AM |
Single by Wright, walk to Beltran, single by Church.
Gwreck May 20 2008 11:20 AM |
Would like to see Alou's first homer of the year right now as well.
Rockin' Doc May 20 2008 11:21 AM |
I need to work on my reading comprehension. I could have sworn that Ben Grimm intimated that Castillo hit a home run.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:21 AM |
Alou hits a hard line drive right at Chipper.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:22 AM |
Deep fly to right, but caught short of the warning track.
G-Fafif May 20 2008 11:22 AM |
I knew the Mets should have dressed as Marlins.
Gwreck May 20 2008 11:23 AM |
Still about 5 runs short of what I was hoping for this inning.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:26 AM |
Escobar leads off with a double.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:26 AM |
Nice heads-up play by Reyes.
G-Fafif May 20 2008 11:27 AM |
Nice play...nice play, nice play, nice play...nice play...nice play.
metsguyinmichigan May 20 2008 11:30 AM |
I'm not sad Glavine left. I didn't hate on him when he was here, but I'm not lamenting that he's no longer with us.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:31 AM |
Same here.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 11:33 AM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on May 20 2008 11:33 AM |
Can I just interject a conversation I had with Johnny Lunchpail Jr. yesterday.
AG/DC May 20 2008 11:33 AM |
I'm sad Glavine got out of that first with just the one run scoring.
metirish May 20 2008 11:35 AM |
Very cool
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 11:37 AM |
AND very cute! (How old is he now?)
AG/DC May 20 2008 11:41 AM |
JCL: Who is on the Mets?
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 11:48 AM |
He just turned 2. He actually learned Dabidrye a week or so ago but surprised me knowing Jose Jose (Jose).
metsguyinmichigan May 20 2008 11:56 AM |
Oh, he's 2. NOW I'm impressed. I thought he was in high school. (Sadly, my own high-schooler might not be able to name that many Mets. There are times I fear I have failed as a parent. I'll quiz him tonight and see. We're going to see "Sapmalot")
Valadius May 20 2008 12:07 PM |
I had to pop in and comment on the miracle that was Luis Castillo hitting a home run.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:08 PM |
Braves take the lead on a series of singles in the third.
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:09 PM |
We should have piled on in the first.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 12:10 PM |
Was there any chance Wright could have scored on Churchie's hit?
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:11 PM |
Maybe. It would have been close, though. The ball was hit hard and scooped up pretty quickly.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:14 PM |
Ron Darling reveals that Barry Lyons' nickname was "Mattress Head."
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:14 PM |
How that came up:
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:17 PM |
Glavine's coasting now. He's retired eleven in a row.
Centerfield May 20 2008 12:20 PM |
I think the only thing that could make this worse is if John Smoltz were sitting on our Disabled List right now.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:21 PM |
Maine, meanwhile, throws 70 pitches in the first three innings, and Kelly Johnson leads off the fourth with a double. (Just as Darling is saying that Maine needs a quick easy inning.)
Centerfield May 20 2008 12:25 PM |
Wasn't Maine under Glavine's tutelage while he was here? Maybe he taught him to suck against the Braves.
mario25 May 20 2008 12:27 PM |
They cant let this piece of doo-doo Glavine beat them
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:27 PM |
I don't know how Centerfield ever gave up smoking.
Willets Point May 20 2008 12:27 PM |
How bad is it? Gameday has it 2-1 Braves, but y'all are talking like its much worse.
Fman99 May 20 2008 12:28 PM |
Mainey doesn't have his good stuff today methinks.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:29 PM |
Well, now it's 3-1.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 12:30 PM |
We will win.
Willets Point May 20 2008 12:30 PM |
See, Glavine was just holding back his best stuff until he returned to his true team.
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:30 PM |
Can't ask anybody to win if we can't back him with more than an unlikely solo homer by Castillo.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 12:33 PM |
Yeah and we can't win convinced that 2 runs is too many to overcome.
Centerfield May 20 2008 12:33 PM |
The strike zone in Gamecast suggests that Glavine is getting the call off the corner again.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:36 PM |
I haven't said that they CAN'T win. Just that they need to reverse two trends in order for that to happen. Keith: It's "ominous" when you get a chance to knock out a great pitcher in the first inning and you don't do it.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:37 PM |
And now it's 14 in a row for Glavine.
Fman99 May 20 2008 12:37 PM |
It's more ominous when they retired a dozen guys in a row and rack up the baserunners in the interim. :sigh:
mario25 May 20 2008 12:38 PM |
The Marlins sure knocked him out in the first inning last year
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:40 PM |
And he starts with a walk. Schoeneweis is up and throwing. And now an infield hit to Teixiera.
metsguyinmichigan May 20 2008 12:40 PM |
What are you all worried about? If history tells us anything, it's that Glavine can't pitch beyond the sixth inning of any game -- or bad things happen. I'm sure our guys are licking their chops to get at that backdraft bullpen the Braves have. And ours is pretty well rested after the rainout, day off and strong starting against the vile Skanks.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:41 PM |
And Maine is out of the game, none out and two on in the fifth.
metirish May 20 2008 12:44 PM |
If we are going to lose a game today I would rather it be this one , I can watch the game tonight at least.
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:45 PM |
Go, Show, Go.
Centerfield May 20 2008 12:46 PM |
I'd rather win this one. I really really really don't want to lose to Tom Glavine.
Fman99 May 20 2008 12:46 PM |
Tom Glavine needs to be punched in the neck. And his wife is a cunt.
mario25 May 20 2008 12:46 PM |
I agree, not Glavine
metirish May 20 2008 12:47 PM |
Look at us , picking which games we would rather win like we only lose 1 game in 10.
Fman99 May 20 2008 12:48 PM |
Hey cool.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:48 PM |
Wow, both of your catchphrases in the same paragraph. You must be such a joy to be around!
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:50 PM |
Now.
mario25 May 20 2008 12:54 PM |
Joke inning
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 12:58 PM |
Glavine coming out of the game, and Keith can't believe it. He's retired his last 17 batters, and only threw 82 pitches.
AG/DC May 20 2008 12:59 PM |
Keith is right.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 01:03 PM |
I agree. It's nuts, especially with a weak bullpen, to pull Glavine after six.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 01:04 PM |
Let's Go Mets
metsguyinmichigan May 20 2008 01:06 PM |
Big time! As for Glavine, you just know he was glaring in there at Cox for sending him out there for the sixth! I thought it was in his contract that he only goes five.
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:09 PM |
Just.
Willets Point May 20 2008 01:10 PM |
LOL.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 01:19 PM |
Gary Cohen: "Brian McCann adds to Aaron Heilman's misery with a two-run homer, and the Braves have a 6-1 lead."
seawolf17 May 20 2008 01:21 PM |
Words just can't explain how badly I feel for Aaron Heilman. The guy just can't get out of his own way.
metirish May 20 2008 01:21 PM |
And Cohen adds to my misery.
metirish May 20 2008 01:26 PM |
That post by me makes no sense.
John Cougar Lunchbucket May 20 2008 01:27 PM |
The whole freakin system is out of order
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:28 PM |
Ed Glynn. Maybe he can manage.
Willets Point May 20 2008 01:28 PM |
The Mets are starting their big comeback against the Atlanta pen now, yes?
metsguyinmichigan May 20 2008 01:31 PM |
I'm seriously wondering in Heilman needs to wear a Zypher uniform for a month work out whatever the heck it is that he needs to work out, because he clearly is untracked.
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:32 PM |
I feel all tingly when you talk to me like an Eastern European beauty innocent of baseball and its cruel vicissitudes.
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 01:32 PM |
David Wright has replaced Tom Glavine in the hardhat commercials for the Citi Field construction unions.
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:34 PM |
A hit!
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:39 PM |
Come on, Howie. Heilman doesn't have options. Where's your head at?
Willets Point May 20 2008 01:43 PM |
This Ay-gee deserves a bullet of cool, no?
Fman99 May 20 2008 01:45 PM |
I'm just giving the people what they want.
bmfc1 May 20 2008 01:49 PM |
Piazza's retirement announcement is here:
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 01:52 PM |
Alou refuses to make the last out, singles up the middle.
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:53 PM |
Art Howe love.
Fman99 May 20 2008 01:54 PM |
How lovely art thou?
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 01:54 PM |
And now it is in the books.
Fman99 May 20 2008 01:55 PM |
Drubbing.
bmfc1 May 20 2008 01:55 PM |
I'm devastated AND disappointed.
AG/DC May 20 2008 01:55 PM |
Man. There's a spot I'd've liked to see Delgado lay one down.
Gwreck May 20 2008 02:01 PM |
We score 9 runs off one of the best pitchers in baseball on Sunday and we can't get more than 1 off the chump the Braves throw out there?
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 02:23 PM |
The first time Glavine pitched against the Mets
AG/DC May 20 2008 02:26 PM |
Isn't that an umpire playing short for the Braves?
Benjamin Grimm May 20 2008 02:29 PM |
Yeah, things were different then! It was the era of the player-umpire.
Willets Point May 20 2008 02:34 PM |
You say this as a joke, but according to A Game of Brawl this was actually fairly common in the 1890's.
seawolf17 May 20 2008 02:35 PM |
There were definitely two Paul Runges during that era. I remember that really confusing me as a kid.
