Reynolds matches a career high in strikeouts before the 1st inning is over.

Most nights you just need a quality start... but sometimes you need a heroic effort from your starting pitcher.

I don't mean to misplace blame for the lousy week we just had but Maine went out and el crappoed all over the place Monday, and it really set us off on poor footing.

Go on Ollie and start us back right.

I had a killer week and intend to enjoy this one out back with an icy cold golden frosty beverage.

Ollie mocking me. Mocking me.

May 23 2008 07:26 PM

The SNY camera shows Randolph's face 1 second after the HR...not guite fair..not ollies.

Another fucking trainwreck tonight..What does it take to send Willie packing?

Grote15
May 23 2008 07:42 PM

Quiet tonight...must be the holiday..Ok... Keith thinks Ollie is possibly injured or off on mechanics..who knows..

ball 4

Fman99
May 23 2008 07:56 PM

Endy beats out an infield single. Reynolds now walks Ollie.

It'd be nice to see the top of the order show up at the dish here.

Fman99
May 23 2008 08:01 PM

Castillo gets a bloop single, in front of the already drawn-in outfield, and Endy comes in to make it 2-1.

Now first and second (Reyes) with 1 out for Sugarpants.

The broadcast crew mentioned that Omar has made the trip to Colorado though he had not originally planned to come.

When asked if Omar would confirm that Willie was in "no imminent danger," Omar replied only that Willie had their support.

The saga continues.

Meanwhile, Marlon Anderson came up lame running up the first base line. Looks like a hamstring problem.

Shades of Endy Chavez. Jay Payton for that matter.

OF's dropping like flies this week.

I think it looked more like a ligament in his ankle.

In any event. it's pretty much the last thing we needed tonight.

Burkhardt mentioned that a big meeting will happen in NY Monday or tuesday , Fred , Jeff ,Omar and Willie , it sure sounded like this team needs to win some games this weekend , but even that might not be enough.

May 23 2008 08:25 PM

:sigh:

Another BB for Ollie.

These days that's been any day ending in a Y.

You can't continue to pitch with that sort of margin for error. SOMETHING'S GONNA BLOW!

Fman99
May 23 2008 08:45 PM

Yeah, an offense that's gotten you two hits through five doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Two damn hits.

I dunno. I don't wanna be one of those awful fans, but I'm thinking we were fast approaching the day where we'd have to get rid of Anderson one way or another.

Elster88
May 23 2008 08:46 PM

He kind of had a lightning in a bottle type of couple of months last year. There was a reason he was out of work.

Fman99
May 23 2008 08:47 PM

Yet another walk from O.P. That's 6 through 4 2/3 innings.

I think this will be his last inning -- he's up near 100 pitches and clearly doesn't have his good stuff.

AG/DC - "...SOMETHING'S GONNA BLOW!"

Too late, the team already does.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 08:47 PM

Perez topping out at 91 tonight. Yikey. No control or velocity? We're lucky he's only let two runs in.

Hard for the Rockies to hit the ball when Perez can't throw it over the plate. Perez threw 102 pitches, with a whopping 53 of the being strikes, in his 5 innings of work.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 08:50 PM

Got out of it, though.

LET'S GET SOME RUNS!

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 08:51 PM

Far as I'm concerned Ollie has struggled well tonight. Compare this not-my-best-stuff night with Maine's outing the other day and you know, it don't suck too much.

I'm pretty certain I've seen the futire of rock and roll and his name is Valentino Pascucci.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 08:55 PM

Sure as shit ain't Abraham Nuñez.

AG/DC

themetfairy

Sure it's not foul?

j/k - that was a thing of beauty!

Elster88

Can Tatis play left? Fuck it give him a start. Not that we have a choice.

Yorvit! Yorvit all to hell!

Valadius

I have come to the conclusion that the primary source of our funk this season is the lack of production from Carlos Delgado. If he goes on a roll, hopefully we will as well.

May 23 2008 09:04 PM

Gary mentioned that Yorvit and his agent are taking the Mets to court over " backing out " of the contract he had or thought he had....

Just got back from the House of Evil where the the Mariners got the snot pounded out of them. Gave me some perspective on the season, because as bad as it's been for the Mets so far, I could be much worse.

Glad to see the Mets taking advantage of Coors. Nice HR by Delgado.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 09:10 PM

Don't beg.

Rockin' Doc
May 23 2008 09:12 PM

Perez threw 110 pitches tonight; 56 of which were strikes. It's hard to be effective like that. For someone that appears to have very good stuff, he unfortunately has too little command of the strike zone. He seems to be constantly working behind in the count which results in him throwing too many pitches. He's giving up too many free passes which ultimately come back to haunt him. I find most of his his outings to be maddening.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 09:14 PM

Holy shit, Fernando. Nice catch, sorta.

I was probably getting an incomplete view of things (seeing as how I was only half-watching the game) but it seemed to me that the Yanx set some kind of record for consecutive cheap hits tonight.
Not that it would have made any difference with that kind of score ... but, aside from Dunca's HR, all I saw were dunkers and bleeders. About 25 of them in a row.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 09:34 PM

Helton looks like Zvon.

John Cougar Lunchbucket

Nice inning for The Show. Battled the right hander.

Get Willie some insurance here.

I mean, get your team some insurance. Yeah, that's it.

That would be it exactly. They got 9 runs (6 cheap) off Bedard in 4 and a third. And then beat up on the reliever that came in, again with the cheap hits. Real sad days in Seattle.

Meanwhile, back on topic, Scott Schoeneweis = our best reliever this year not named Wagner?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 09:54 PM

The Show has been pretty solid since last September, dare I say.

Smitty is the POR right now but this might be one of them games when the scorer might award Show with the W instead. Provided we hold it and all.

Frayed Knot
May 23 2008 10:00 PM

Smith pitched a full inning, giving up only 1 hit and no runs of his own (2 inherited).
No way does the Official Scorer not give him the win with an outing like that (assuming he stays POR of course).

Sucks for Show that he'll get no "Official Stat" out of his nice outing but thems the breaks.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:03 PM

Well, there's an academic discussion for ya.

Fing Wagner.

Frayed Knot
May 23 2008 10:05 PM

Now we just gotta keep this thing tied.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:09 PM

Yeesh. Spillbourghs smoked that.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:12 PM

Top of the order. Do it now.

Frayed Knot
May 23 2008 10:12 PM

I was going to say I'd prefer the middle IFers back at DP-depth there. It's risky, but so is in all around.

Now we've got Heilman, Wise & Pedro to carry us through extras.

Gwreck
May 23 2008 10:13 PM

Can't really get on Wagner too much, it was their best hitter in a hitter's park and only 1 run, his first of the year.

I would consider putting him back out there if we take the lead in the 10th.

Yeah, you just knew though that appointing himself chief loudmouth would result in an untimely comeuppance.

Meantime, awesome job by Reyes on a poorly struck ball.

Maybe Casanova could pitch. We have three catchers. And one outfielder. You know you're going bad when you're concerned about a Marlon Anderson injury.

Gwreck
May 23 2008 10:28 PM

I'm still scratching my head as to why we recalled a catcher when an outfielder went on the DL.

Let's fucking hope Pagan is good to come off the DL when he's eligible (I think that's 5/28 or 5/29).

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:31 PM

Without a catcher you're going to have a lot of passed balls.

Apparently no need as he made up for his dickage by making the 3rd out of the inning at 3rd base.

May 23 2008 10:34 PM

What did Reyes do on the basepaths last inning? I missed that play.

AG/DC

Picked off. I didn't understand the move.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:41 PM

When was the last time The Schneid had a hit?

Gwreck
May 23 2008 10:47 PM

About 4 or 5 games ago.

Does Beltran actually get better defensively in extra innings or does it just seem that way?

Gwreck
May 23 2008 10:55 PM

If Reyes gets ejected there, you obviously put Tatis at short.

But then do you put Schneider in left or go with Johan?

Mendoza Line
May 23 2008 10:56 PM

I was thinking Wright to short, Tatis to third, Castro to LF.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
May 23 2008 10:58 PM

I think Church coulda stayed in the game, no?

Gwreck
May 23 2008 11:03 PM

Didn't think of that.

I can assure you that under no circumstances whatsoever would I want Ramon Castro "roaming" in the spacious Coors Field outfield.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 11:13 PM

Buckholz gets through three on only 31 pitches.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 11:17 PM

Dive for that shit, Castillo.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 11:18 PM

Give him a pitch to bunt, Aaron.

Gwreck
May 23 2008 11:27 PM

Crapulence.

Good try by Heilman but walking the leadoff batter = stooopid, particularly in extra innings.

AG/DC
May 23 2008 11:44 PM

Heilman failed.

But that's a team loss.

Zephs are at home, so the Mets better move fast to get somebody on a plane.

Mendoza Line
May 23 2008 11:47 PM

Leadoff hitter got on via the cheapie seeing eye hit that Castillo couldn't pick up. Really not a bad effort by Heilman - only clean hit was Holliday's, and he's liable to do that to anyone (see Wagner, Billy).

Gwreck
May 24 2008 12:13 AM

Shows you how much attention I was paying.

I'm not worried about Aaron losing this game. Thought he pitched decent except perhaps to Francis. Edgy's point about it being a team loss rings true.
