About the last thing Reyes needed that inning was an error.

2 - 0 Fish.

TransMonk

Let's score some runs.

I know. It's brutal. I ask myself why I even watch these guys.

TransMonk

KABOOM for Reyes.

Let's score some more runs.

metirish

About the only thing Reyes needed that inning was a home run.

Tie game!

Rockin' Doc
May 26 2008 05:47 PM

That inning was set up to be so much more than just the two runs. Still, I'm happy the Mets were able to tie it up. Now let's get some runs and take the lead.

TransMonk
May 26 2008 05:49 PM

Reyes KABOOMs again!

He gets the 2 runs back by himself.

3-2 Good Guys.

Rockin' Doc
May 26 2008 05:49 PM

Reyes does it again.

Castillo steals second. Pretty amazing for someone who generally looks like he can barely walk with his gimpy knees.

Wright fails to drive him home.

I don't know if that was Willie's call or if Luis went on his own, but either way I like it.

I think of poor Barbaro everytime I see Castillo run.

Nymr83
May 26 2008 06:04 PM

that was a decent, though not great, time for a steal.
stealing with 2 outs is good, stealing with your best hitter at the plate might not be.

the first inning should have been bigger.

great to see the two homers from reyes, but based on past experience i want to make sure he doesnt try to put the ball in the air more now

Nymr83
May 26 2008 06:07 PM

way to cough back up the lead pelfrey! walking people and plunking them isnt good.

TransMonk
May 26 2008 06:07 PM

Pelf looks like his world is falling apart on the mound.

3 run double by Gonzo 5-3 Fish.

KC
May 26 2008 06:12 PM

I'm not going to pretend to know how to play center field better than anyone
much less Beltran, but isn't a more direct route to a ball by extending your-
self towards the ball (your arms, etc) and not slide and try to back hand the
ball with alligator arms?

Hard to call that a three run double, but that's what the box will say.

Frayed Knot
May 26 2008 06:13 PM

Pelfrey's gotta hold some kind of record for almost getting out of an inning. If not him than Heilman does.
Every run tonight is with 2 outs. 2 are unearned. Several have been driven in on broken bats and bloops plus the one that got past Beltran.

It's like he gets to the brink but then can't put the final guy away.

TransMonk
May 26 2008 06:16 PM

I've officially given up on my dream of Pelfrey being an effective big league starter. If he had the goods, he would be better than he is now. It doesn't help that he can only throw one pitch for strikes.

Sad, but true....

AG/DC

Man, Gary. Man, Ron.

Talk about the game a little.

KC
May 26 2008 06:22 PM

And one last thing on the three run non-double ... it's not like the ball was hit
hard ... try and catch the freakin' thing by diving, show some highlights. I under-
stand that on a scorcher you don't want to commit and have the ball roll to
the wall, but that wasn't the type of hit it was.

I just think it's unfair to slap that on Pelfrey's ass.

metsguyinmichigan
May 26 2008 06:27 PM

Mets are playing like they're disappointed Willie gets to stay.

KC
May 26 2008 06:29 PM

Willie ain't playing and Willie ain't allowing fly balls to shallow center turn
into three run doubles.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 06:30 PM

I'm not sure that's fair, but they certainly seem to have some head-not-in-the-game issues.

KC
May 26 2008 06:31 PM

Oh, and Beltran is quoted by the booth that the Willie thing is a distraction to boot.

metirish
May 26 2008 06:36 PM

Willie ain't playing SS either .

Talk about sharks circling, Heilman's warming in the pen.

I was ironing so my full attention was at that but Gary mentioned something about Heilman and the minor leagues.

KC
May 26 2008 06:42 PM

Yeah, I'm just gonna shut up. Bad enough we'll probably awake to three new
Willie threads by batmagadanleadoff.

Nigh nigh.

Rockin' Doc
May 26 2008 06:47 PM

Gonzalez's double wasn't hit very well and it could have likely been played better by Beltran, but Pelfrey set himself up for that play to hurt him with his wildness. Pelfrey helped to do himself in by walking Jacobs on 4 pitches and then hitting the next hitter, Uggla with a 2-2 pitch.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 06:48 PM

OK, everybody on Heilman's back. We're going places.

Rockin' Doc
May 26 2008 06:49 PM

Heilman with a 1-2-3 inning.

KC
May 26 2008 06:52 PM

Darling even said from the booth that Beltran froze and could have made
a better play on the non-double.

No really, I'm done with that.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 06:52 PM

Come now. Nolasco isn't exactly bringing it here. Good time to rally here.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 06:53 PM

Two on, no out.

Two on, no out.

Two on, no out.

Two on, no out.

Stomp-stomp-clap!

Stomp-stomp-clap!

Stomp-stomp-clap!

KC

Evans up with first and third and two down. Too bad Willie is in the dugout.

KC
May 26 2008 06:59 PM

Whiffs looking, freakin' Willie.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 07:00 PM

Brammit.

Hey, anybody mention Geremi Gonzalez in the booth tonight?

(I'm listening to a commercial enumerating the majesty of the moment when a batter hist his 600th homer, but they've deleted Griffey.)

metirish
May 26 2008 07:00 PM

Word on the wire is that there will be a press conference during the seventh inning so Willie can discuss the game so far.

Gwreck
May 26 2008 07:09 PM

SNY did mention Gonzalez on the scrolling ticker on the bottom of the screen.

Glad to see Heilman earning some beer tonight.

Well, you know, this thing's not over. Our guys are going to battle. They've been here before and they'll pull through. You know, we missed some opportunities early. But, our guys just need to do well the rest of the way. There's a whole lot of baseball left to be played, man, and, you know, we'll pull through. Doesn't anyone have any questions about the game?

KC
May 26 2008 07:14 PM

You cribbed that from someone.

Sgt. Elizabeth Quiñones (still a corporal in the photo) beseeches God to bless America.

Mets sting the ball a little, go in order.

KC

AG/DC
May 26 2008 07:36 PM

Is Helms allowed to hit it that far?

Hanley with the infield in. Yikey.

Rockin' Doc
May 26 2008 07:43 PM

Well, that inning could have been better, but it certainly could have been worse.

Elsewhere around the NL, the Phillies are busy pummeling the Rockies by a score of 16-4 through 6. Atlanta defeated Arizona earlier in the day by a score of 7-3.

Fman99
May 26 2008 07:48 PM

I turned it off. Thanks anyway.

KC
May 26 2008 07:49 PM

Awful lotta Mets being retired in a row here with two outs in the 8th.

Frayed Knot
May 26 2008 07:56 PM

9 batters have faced the Marlin pen - 9 outs - 9 balls that haven't left the infield

seawolf17
May 26 2008 07:59 PM

KC
May 26 2008 08:02 PM

They haven't been terribly lovable.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 08:05 PM

Endy, get of the interstate NOW!!!!

KC
May 26 2008 08:08 PM

I don't see so much as a rich-fuck thing, but more I don't care how Ron got
to his car back in the day during a 2008 b'cast.

If the Mets were winning 16-1 I would be more tolerant of that stuff.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 08:10 PM

Since when is Hanley Ramirez a Gold Glover?

Frayed Knot
May 26 2008 08:10 PM

The last 15 batters made outs and not one ball out of the infield in the final 3 innings

Yeah I hear ya , just a bit pissed right now , but knowing that Ron will get walked to his car by beefy security guards makes me feel good.

KC

I'd say something about Willie, but I overplayed that card tonight.

AG/DC
May 26 2008 08:12 PM

Get 'em tomorrow.

AG/DC
May 27 2008 08:16 AM

Was the passing of Geremi Gonzalez acknowledged before the game at all? It was only two years ago he played for the team.
