I Can't Win

Can't listen to SportsTalk Radio today. Explanation can be found in the 'Willie Randolph Racism' thread.

So I plugged the iPod into the computer - thinking I'll educate myself a little about jazz today. I've got some Miles, Brubeck, Stan Getz and Coltrane on the thing.

I've got everything that iTunes categorizes as 'Jazz' in one playlist called 'Jazz'.

I have that playlist on shuffle and for the last hour I've been listening to Nat King Cole and Norah Jones.

Argh.

I'm having a can't win day today. Mostly shit that's my fault. Not all.

How do you develop better habits of mind? Don't they take habits of mind to develop?

Is the iPod messed up , you don't want to be listening to Norah Jones if you are educating yourself on Jazz.

You also don't want to have Norah Jones on your iPod.

That's my point.

The iPod's not messed up. What's messed up is how Norah Jones and Nat King Cole music is classified as 'Jazz' somewhere out there in the world.

I suppose I should replace her with Bon Jovi?

Ahh OK, but who put them on your iPod , oh it's an iTunes thing.

I downloaded Motley Crue's " greatest Hits" last night....

That, or some Motley Crue.

There's room for all on my 80GB iPod!

How ridiculous is that by the way? 80GB? I have 3500 songs on it now and I've got room for a bazillion more.

My most recent downloads are:

Blue Oyster Cult, Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Romantics and Yo La Tengo

Just try to put me in a box.

As in "Ruby and the Romantics"?

Then, as a Mets fan, you could keep playing their song "Our Day Will Come" over and over.

Okay so I made an 'On-The-Go' list comprised of the aforementioned Miles, Brubeck, Coltrane and Getz (with Jao Gilberto).

Excellent stuff really. I seem to be able to tell Brubeck from the rest when I hear piano. Miles and Coltrane seem to be all horns, different tempos but I've yet to really be able to discern.

All in all enjoyable but I hope the Mets win by like 14-1 tonight, Pelfrey dominates and the Atlanta KKK chapter's Grand Wizard apologizes to Willie on the field pre-game.

The Jazz is nice but if I have to keep listening all week I think I'll need to start to doing bong hits.

Any day now, from Amazon, I am expecting Marvin Gaye and Isaak Perlman. Isn't it funny how a person's taste can be so widespread?

I got Brubeck for my husband's birthday btw, I think he listened to it for four months straight.
