Happy Memorial Day

I love this song, how weird and ragged it is and very funky too for a country song.

History judges this as one of NY's worst records, but its the first one that came out once I knew who he was, so it's always been meaningful to me.

Dance another free day! USA! USA!

Great song , love the guitar , some great images of Young.

Not doing much today , will probably work the grill later , went to Rye Playland yesterday which was fun.

A special thank you to all those military personnel, past and present, that have served, fought, and sacrificed so that we may live free. You have my eternal thanks and prayers.

Amazing that (the figures vary by source) over a million Americans have
lost their lives in service of their country.

Funny you don't hear praise of Neil's guitar too often. I like him, he's a nut, and
he never claimed to be Jeff Beck out there.

He told Bryant Gumble on The Today Show one morning something along, "thank
god for bands like the Ramones or I don't know where we'd be."

Struck me odd at the time, and not.

600,000 of those came in the Civil War.

More Americans died in some single days of action (like Shiloh) than in all previous wars (Independence, 1812, Mexican) combined.

By and large, one million deaths in small in comparison to:

A. the numbers lost by other nations
B. the lives saved/improved by that sacrifice

Happy Memorial Day and thanks to all veterans and those who serve(d)

Yeah, I should of (and did consider) saying that over half of that were in a
war amongst ourselves but figure it's a well known fact.

Things I don't think about too often: The Republic of China lost approximately 20,000,000 persons in World War II --- 3,800,000 military and 16,200,000 civilian. (source: wikipedia)

Nations that lost over 10% of their population:

Poland 16.07%
Soviet Union 13.71%
Lithuania 13.71%
Latvia 11.38%
Portuguese Timor 11.00%
Nazi Germany 10.47%

We lost 0.32% of our population.

There's great benefit in not fighting your wars on your home turf.
