themetfairy's Big Week!

I have been looking forward to this week for a very long time. It seems surreal that it's finally here.

Two major events in my life are gong on back-to-back. Tomorrow is my Freakin' Rutgers Convocation. Yes, I finished my classes last August. And yes, my MLIS diploma has been hanging in my study since December. But tomorrow I finally get to graduate. I'm part of the first Rutgers cohort to have substantially completed my degree online, and my classmates and I are excited about celebrating having successfully withstood being the program's guinea pigs.

Then Wednesday is my 25th wedding anniversary. That's a long time, especially in this day and age, and it's definitely a cause for celebration! We'll keep things low key this week, since we have an event at our son's school on our anniversary, but we'll take time to celebrate this coming weekend.

Over two years ago I remember kidding D-Dad that my graduation would take place on our big anniversary, and then looking up the calendar and seeing that was actually going to be the case. I told him that I should get a new car for the combined celebration. Once I finally wore him down on the subject, life intervened - my daughter had an accident with our oldest car (luckily she and my son walked away from the crash), so I got the new car back in September 2006. At that point I joked that I was required to finish the program, since I already had my present.

So here I am. The new 2007 Subaru isn't as new as it was, but it's a fine car and I love it. I'll be celebrating graduation along with my cohorts who helped get the kinks out of Rutgers' online MLIS program. And I'll have made it to my silver wedding anniversary. It's definitely a big week for me!

Congrats on all counts.

The 25 years is quite an accomplishment. Me, I just take it one day at a time.

The online degree is great. I can't imagine how much personal discipline and determination that must take.

Good for you.

Congratulations on both. Very cool stuff.

25 years. Wow. I can't even stay in a relationship 25 weeks before I start freaking out. That is a very very big deal. Congrats to you both.

Congrats on both counts. Both are incredible accomplishments.

You know AG, we spend a lot of time online here, why don't we get any degrees?

Just think! 25 years ago, I was seven! I could have been the ring bearer at your wedding! Or the flower girl! Or whatever Jewish people have at weddings!

LOL - you would have made a lovely flower boy

I haven't actually been to a lot of Jewish weddings, and most of my friends didn't have younger siblings or nephews or cousins. I guess Jewish people have ring bearers, but I can't say for sure.

Wow and wow!

Remember to pause for a moment as you walk across that stage, look out over the audience and remember that feeling.

Good for you!

I hadn't remembered Let's Dance as being the chart topper that week. And yes, we did dance :)

And thanks everyone for the good wishes. I'm definitely planning on savoring the moment tomorrow, and Wednesday also!

Happy Convocating and Anniversarating. They may not be verbs, but they're worthy of celebration.

Congratulations to you and your husband. BTW, is "Freakin' Rutgers Convocation" the official title of the event? I mean, is that what's on the invitation and program?

It's how the program should have read ;)

Thanks everyone. It was a great day. Busy and tiring, but I enjoyed celebrating the conclusion of the program with my friends who were there with me from the start :)

It's not the first for either of us, but Pat and I have gone past 20 years, still loving each other totally.

And my stepdaughter Sue is getting her BA this summer.

And you go, girl!
