No lineups yet, but David Lennon is reporting that Evans, Castro, Easley and Tatis are all starting tonight (Easley at first in place of Delgado). Florida starter Andrew Miller is a lefty.

Also a decent chance of a rain delay tonight. "Severe Thunderstorm Watch" in place for Queens County.

="The National Weather Service"]
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 9pm, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3am. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 54. North wind between 10 and 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

sac fly easley, 1-0 mets.

come on Tatis, 1 run is NOT good enough

Nymr83
May 27 2008 05:29 PM

Tatis gets it done with a single. 2-0 Mets!

Nymr83
May 27 2008 05:30 PM

Castro keeps it going with an RBI single!!

The Mets generate a big first inning, providing Santana with a three run cushion. Mets 3, Marlins 0 after one inning. The inning also demonstrates (at least to me) why Randolph should've been fired already, or better yet, never have been hired to begin with.

With Reyes on second base with a lead-off double, Castillo's sac bunt is bobbled by the pitcher, who is then unable to throw Reyes out at third. If Randolph had his way, if the sac bunt went according to plan, Castillo would've been thrown out at first, having sacrificed himself to advance Reyes. Easley's RBI sac fly would've been the third out. And no runs would have scored, instead of three

At least he's not bunting.

How about that Tatis. Wayne Hagin reported to me before his first turn that he was swinging a vicious bat during BP today. Anyway, good for the Mets.

metsguyinmichigan
May 27 2008 07:06 PM

Nick strikes out with the bases loaded, but with the pitcher on deck, I bet he wasn't getting too much to swing at, even with the bases loaded.

Elster88
May 27 2008 07:13 PM

He was getting with fastballs that he couldn't catch up to, barely fouling them off. When he finally got a slider he was meat.

Castro doing a shitty job blocking those.

Reyes has his head up his ass. One handing bouncers on a rainy day.

Makes me feel bad for Willie.

stretch time as santana gets out of it with a big K of Uggla

seawolf17

Okay, seventh inning stretch. Someone duct-tape Aaron Heilman to his locker for two innings.

Elster88
May 27 2008 07:22 PM

Can Peterson/Willie grow a set and put Santana out in the eighth? I want Santana/Wagner to finish this.

Santana's at 106 pitches.

AG/DC
May 27 2008 07:23 PM

I think Santana comes out for the eighth, but I think he's pulled if anybody reaches.

AG/DC
May 27 2008 07:24 PM

Nope. Looks like he's getting congrats on the bench.

Elster88
May 27 2008 07:29 PM

I blame Castro for the second run last inning. He got it back.

That's the hit that our boys ain't been getting!

Nice job Ramon.

5-3 good guys.

Let's see if Duaner can hold this down.

Duaner Sanchez comes in to pitch the 8th.

Fastball, curveball or meatball?

Elster88
May 27 2008 07:34 PM

Keith reports that pitch hit 86 on the gun.

Fman99
May 27 2008 07:37 PM

Nice handling of the short hop by Wright and holding the runner at 2nd.

Fman99
May 27 2008 07:41 PM

Duaner gets out of the inning without any damage. Throwing some filthy Sanchez pitches to that last batter.

Endy takes an 0-2 pitch up the middle.
If the Mets fortunes are indeed turning then a dp ball will not be hit here.

Someone tell Reyes not to turn his head to glance at the ball when he's bunting for a base hit.

Then tell him not to turn it 135 degrees over his shoulder a second time.

Fman99
May 27 2008 07:46 PM

Reyes bunts for a single and the scorekeepers rule it an error. Bad call.

First and second, no out. Castillo shows bunt here.

Marlins take the pressure off Luis with a WP. Second and third, no outs.

I'd like to really pile on this X-Met Mormon fireballer and cost Wags any chance at a save.

An added negative of turning your head is that it takes you out of the baseline.

Fman99

Castillo shows his continued averson to the RBI with a sad infield groundout.

Wright's turn to bring the runners in.

What was the setup?

seawolf17
May 27 2008 07:53 PM

It was just a behind-home-plate angle of a 95-mph heater from Lindstrom that Wright barely fouled back.

FUCKIN HELL, DP.

After telling them have one of them tell Chavez not to leave the base on a fly ball or line drive when he's on third with less then two out.

AG/DC
May 27 2008 07:55 PM

Lucky fish, but this is the second time in a week this has happened. What's the benefit to running on contact with the infield in?

soupcan
May 27 2008 07:57 PM

It's funny 'cause I tell my son not to look at the ball, just run!

Then he'll watch a major league game and see all these guys do it and say "look dad, they all watch the ball..."

Fman99
May 27 2008 07:58 PM

Wright lined into a DP.

Wags on the hill now, got Han-Ram on a K. Two outs left to get.

Fly out. Two down. Cantu at the dish.

That's a good move.

I've had a buff gay guy bail me out of a jam once or twice.

And no, that's not slang for anything.

Thoughts from Shea tonight:

1. Nick Evans does not look capable of hitting major league pitching. Looked badly overmatched and fooled during each of his at-bats tonight. 7 LOB to boot.

2. I love Santana but wish he could take that next step from very good to great and not keep giving up the little stuff -- like the home run every start, or those 2 wild pitches in the 7th that gave away an extra run. Pitch count was a touch high as well, which is what kept him from going into the 8th.

3. I agreed with taking Santana out after 7; it's not about "growing a pair" for Willie as was suggested elsewhere in this IGT; I think it's about keeping your pitcher healthy and not pushing him too far. We had a lead and have a solid bullpen. No problem with using Sanchez there.

4. Sanchez' decreased velocity is a little troubling but with his array of pitches he can still clearly be effective. Hell, I don't think Pedro Feliciano ever hits more than 85 on the gun most of the time but he has no trouble getting people out. It would be nice to know if this is just a recovery thing and the velocity will come back, or if he's just going to be a different pitcher from now on.

5. Crowd was mostly good and supportive, which was a relief to see. Now if we can just string together a couple of these games...
