Two in a row for Castro

G-Fafif
May 28 2008 05:10 PM

Almost a month, notes Wayne Hagin, since the Mets have won back-to-back games at Big Shea.

Tonight would be a nice night to change that.

G-Fafif
May 28 2008 05:12 PM

Not a huge sample on back-to-back wins, btw, only ten home games:

L-W-L-W-L-W-L-L-L-W

Long enough, however.

Beltran's route to some balls that result in plays like that are almost taken
for granted by Mets fans. Some of those catches are quite spectacular and
he makes it look easier by getting that early jump.

(I owe Carlos one from the other night)

Duaner hit 91.

Well, Gameday says 90.8.

And that's the release speed.

But it's nice to see him throwing something like big-league cheese.

Gwreck
May 28 2008 08:20 PM

P.S. -- Things I disagreed with: letting Evans hit.

Was fine with Chavez leading off, but since he hit for Castro, Schneider had to come into the game. And in extras, he obviously wanted Chavez in the OF. So not hitting Schneider for Evans (who I maintain cannot hit major league pitching, in the sample size we have) is not a good move.

AG/DC
May 28 2008 08:23 PM

Hanley showing that Derek Jeter range.

Frayed Knot
May 28 2008 08:23 PM

The thing about hitting for Castro is that if he would have gotten on you'd almost have to run for him anyway.

I think Willie's been playing this one well tonight.
I was wondering why Mainer PR-ing instead of Santana but saving Johan for the potential hitting slot was smarter.

AG/DC
May 28 2008 08:53 PM

Fernando Tatís, Jr. (born January 1, 1975 in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic) is an infielder in Major League Baseball for the New York Mets. He previously played for the Texas Rangers (1997-1998), St. Louis Cardinals (1998-2000), Montreal Expos (2001-2003) and Baltimore Orioles (2006). He bats and throws right-handed.

Mostly remembered as being a "one-year wonder," Tatis enjoyed a career year in 1999 with the St. Louis Cardinals, when he hit 34 home runs with 107 RBI and 21 stolen bases while posting a .298 batting average. On April 23, he became the only major league player in history to hit two grand slams in a single inning; he hit both against the same pitcher, Chan Ho Park of the Los Angeles Dodgers. With this feat, Tatis also set a Major League Baseball record for most RBI (8) in a single inning.

Since then, Tatis struggled with injuries and has never approached the form he displayed that season. He was invited to spring training with Tampa Bay in 2004, but did not make the team. He did not play professional baseball in 2004 or 2005.

Tatis was invited to 2006 spring training by the Baltimore Orioles as a nonroster invitee, and was assigned to their minor league camp on March 28. However, on July 21, he was promoted to the Orioles, after playing the season with the team's Triple-A affiliate, the Ottawa Lynx.

On July 27, 2006, he started for the Orioles at third base against Kansas City. It was his first major league start since June 15, 2003. Tatis went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs in his return.

In February 2007, Fernando was a non-roster invitee to the Los Angeles Dodgers spring training camp. On March 11, 2007 he was asked to report to (AAA) Las Vegas. At the request of Tatis, the Dodgers subsequently released him. [1] On March 23, 2007 he signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets. In 2007-08, he was with the New Orleans Zephyrs (AAA). In joining the Zephyrs, he became teammates with Park, the pitcher against whom he enjoyed the highlight of his career.

Tatis made a return to the major leagues with the Mets in May 2008.

We called up the patriotic saintal, who recently posted:

The Mr's Maestri & Schline have missed the boat on Memorial day. There could have been a fly over, yes there could have, and veterans and men in uniform could have been allowed in FREE. Why not?? It isn't like we didn't have room. The attendence was listed as 2048 and even if that was true there were almost 8000 seats plus the levy unoccupied. Also missing was the Navy or Marine Corps band. In other words the Zephyrs brass did not give the fans a reason to be there. No Mr. Maestri, the game itself is not a reason. Not anymore. Maybe we can do something for the 3rd of July since we will not be home on the 4th. I know we have fireworks scheduled but is that enough?? Cmon brass, we diehards will be there but give the others a reason. Maybe even a lottery with the winner getting a season ticket for the rest of the season. Even if it's just a fireworks package. Something, anything. Please!!!!
