Maine gives up three in the first, Mets get two back in their half of the frame, so far.

And the only one here is 3K miles from Shea.

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:36 PM

Castillo homers.

In other news, hell freezes over.

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:43 PM

Nice 1-2-3 inning for Maine gets him back in rhythm.

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:47 PM

And Kershaw responds in kind. 3-2 Dodgers after two full.

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:49 PM

I know it's Friday and some of you have dates, but where the hell is Rogers? Or Valadius? At the premier of Sex in the City??

C'mon guys, priorities...

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:53 PM

Kemp--who'd look good in Metly colors--flies out after an 8 pitch at bat to lead off the third. The slumping Jeff Kent ks for the second.

DocTee
May 30 2008 05:54 PM

7 in a row for Maine after that inning-ending strikeout of James Loney.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:08 PM

Consecutive walks to Reyes, Castillo and Wright-- Big AB here for Carlos B.

Sac fly and we are tied. Ttais grounds out, Mets plate one, strand two.

New game after three.

Three runs on two hits so far.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:13 PM

Martin homers to start the Dodger fourth--old game.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:26 PM

Castro and Delgado open thehome half of the fourth with consecutive singles.

Nick Evans to the plate. Singles-- loaded for the pitcher, with no outs. Gotta capitalize on these opportunities.

On edit: Evans was up 3-0, then Kershaw worked it full. Following via ESPN GameCast, I though Torre was intentionally walking the bags full to get to Maine.

I've been stuck at the office. Reading through this thread is a lot more fun than following on Gameday.

Hey! A Chan Ho Park sighting! Bring him in! Bring him in!

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:29 PM

Castro retired at home on the FC-- still loaded for Jose.

Who brings one home on another FC.

First and second, two down for Castillo.

seawolf17
May 30 2008 06:30 PM

First, second, and third for the illegitimate son of Pat Tabler, David Wright.

seawolf17
May 30 2008 06:31 PM

And it's Chan Hoooooooooooooooooooo!

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:31 PM

Bags juiced for DWright after another walk. Torre must be at wits end.

If the Mets don't plate more than one this inning, I will be.

seawolf17
May 30 2008 06:35 PM

Sportsline says Park is 4-for-4 (1.1 IP, 0 H) with the bases loaded and two out this year.

seawolf17
May 30 2008 06:36 PM

5-for-5.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:37 PM

Left 'em loaded.

Is it mandatory now to show a happy Willie all the time and to praise him all the time , Willie clapping , Willie encouraging , smiling Willie , " That's one thing Torre does so good( talking to Kershaw after he took him out) , oh and Willie too".....crazy.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:43 PM

Maine showing no ill effects from the long inning-- Ks Park and induces comebackers from Pierre and Kemp.

DocTee
May 30 2008 06:46 PM

Carlos B. grounds out...ESPN GameCast show Tatis in LA uni...never knew (or forgot) he was once a Dodger. Tatis and Castro follow CB's lead and ground out in succession.

<< My designation is a man who will get managerial consideration soon, methinks. (Jose Oquendo, in case my posting level changes-- and at this rate it will by next inning).

seawolf17
May 30 2008 06:50 PM

Tatis vs Park, almost ten years after the 2 grand slams in an inning game.

Ron Darling, talking about giving up ten runs in 2/3 of an inning. He was off by a run. Ugly.

http://ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=4277

Look at Gary Carter batting seventh. He really did fall off the table quickly, didn't he?

metirish
May 30 2008 06:59 PM

Delgado looks totally lost up there , swinging and missing by a foot at times.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:00 PM

'nother quick inning by Maine.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:03 PM

Maine lifted after six as Casanova PHs. 1 R on 2 hits (both to Martin) over his last five IP.

May 30 2008 07:08 PM

Blake DeWitt showing in this series why he was so low on the Dodger depth chart.

metirish
May 30 2008 07:10 PM

Castillo out of the game after making the DP , looks like he was limping badly.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:11 PM

How far away is Valentin???

metirish
May 30 2008 07:13 PM

A few thousand miles away in St . Lucie.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:34 PM

Mets leave them loaded again, but score the go-ahead run.

TheOldMole
May 30 2008 07:34 PM

Do we have faith in Heilman? Yes we do.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:35 PM

With the bases loaded, why did Park not try for the out at home?

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:39 PM

Ugh.

5-5 after a deep double from Kemp plates Pierre

TheOldMole
May 30 2008 07:39 PM

Maybe we don't.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:40 PM

All those men LOB will come back to haunt us, I think.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:41 PM

Motherfather. 6-5

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:43 PM

Jesus Christ get this guy off the mound

metirish
May 30 2008 07:45 PM

Heilman is?

KC
May 30 2008 07:48 PM

Not to quibble, but Pierre was safe as confirmed by several replays.

Give any major league team an extra out and oft times shit happens.

DocTee
May 30 2008 07:55 PM

"YOU CALL THAT RELIEF PITCHING?"

mario25
May 30 2008 07:57 PM

Heilman should NEVER PITCH in a tight spot ever!!!! Trade him ASAP...he is awful

Fman99
May 30 2008 07:58 PM

Heilman isn't.

KC
May 30 2008 08:02 PM

At this point, I think just about everyone is in agreement that Heilman could
bring something in a trade (when he has a few good outings in a row) and that
a change of scenery slant could be sold to the right GM.

That ain't happening in early June.

Pierre was freakin' OUT.

KC
May 30 2008 08:10 PM

I feel like a thread killer.

Bottom of the ninth!

Fman99
May 30 2008 08:12 PM

Down to their last 3 outs.

LET'S GO METS.

metsguyinmichigan
May 30 2008 08:12 PM

Yikes. Just checking in after a night out, Ugh. So much for Heilman being back.

Fman99
May 30 2008 08:20 PM

That's that.

The wheels really came off on the groundout that started the 8th. Awful call by the first base ump.

KC
May 30 2008 08:21 PM

Lotta men left on base tonight, blue was squeazin' Maine early on giving that
young kid a much different strike zone.

Hate Heilman all ya want ... did I mention Pierre was OUT?

Fman99
May 30 2008 08:23 PM

Yeah, the Evans K to end of the 7th with the bases loaded and the Mets up 5-4 was big. I felt it might be.

DocTee
May 30 2008 08:41 PM

LOB kill. The Mets have to capitalize on situations when they have someone on the ropes and tonight they just didn't do that.

Maine was effective after the first...

After rallying from 3-0 against this hotshot, I thought this had the makings of a Big Game (TM) but it fell apart pretty quickly there in the latter third of the contest. Had the Mets pulled it out and been riding a four-game winning streak, it would have set a whole different tone heading into June.

Any word on Castillo?

]Any word on Castillo?

Strained hip flexor

We could have survived a shaky Maine OR a messy Heilman tonight but not both.
Heilman continued his pattern of either being perfect or perfectly awful.

Hoping for a CH Park appearence backfired.

Problems tonight:

1. Nick Evans cannot hit major league pitching. Sorry. We need an outfielder, NOW!!! Kenny Lofton? Reggie Sanders? Sammy Sosa?

2. Fernando Tatis was exposed tonight for being unable to play the outfield. Yes, the double, but also the sliding catch in the game where he made it look hard but really he just had gotten a poor jump; also the ground-rule double in the first when he loafed it over towards the ball. Yes, he wouldn't have caught it, but he should've run harder. If it doesn't bounce over, it would've been a triple.

3. In the 8th, when we had a runner on 1st with no out, righties coming up and we *really* needed the ground ball, where was Smith? He didn't throw in the 'pen all night.

4. Another crappy start from Maine.
