Plus Castillo.

I'm guessing Randolph wants this series bad.

Elster88

I do too. "It's only one game", but when your 150 million dollar ace is going I figure it's important to win the series and avoid the split.

Maybe there'll be a transaction or two after the game and a couple of fresh bodies to meet them on the coast.

Miller: "A beautiful night here in New York, in the shadow of the legendary Yankee Stadium."
Morgan: "Tonight we see the Mets take on Yankee great Joe Torre and the Los Angeles Dodgers."
Miller: "You know, Joe, Yankee Stadium is really just a few minutes away from where we are right now."
Morgan: "Johan Santana pitching for the Mets tonight. Here's a guy who probably should have been a Yankee this year."

I should get hired as a Sunday Night Baseball scriptwriter.

It's going to be a long night listening to them spooge over Torre for nine innings.

Fman99

No offense to ol' penis-nose over in the other dugout but I hope to see the Mets thrash these stupid Dodgers tonight. Good to see Church back in the lineup.

I'm really not in the mood for Morgan and Miller.

Morgan so far on Santana:
Not effective against slap hitters.
Velocity down.
Not throwing sliders as much.
Gives up too many home runs.

Maybe those are all true.

Zvon
Jun 01 2008 06:16 PM

A double by Pierre off Wrights glove and a Kemp rbingle makes it 1-0 LA.
Nice piece of hitting by Kemp.
That was a nice pitch he hit.

Zvon
Jun 01 2008 06:19 PM

Nice pick off.
Excellent run down.

One more game reaching safely he beats the Strawmans Met record of 33.

Remeber that Verducci article where he said the umps got a total of four calls wrong at first for an entire year? The day after I read that article was the Washington game that had four blown calls at first. Since then it feels like I've seen three games where there HASN'T been a blown call at first.

For NO, Chris Aguila has two homers tonight. He's a righty OF with 14 HRs this year. How about calling him up and sending Evans down?

He hit 2 out last night as well. And one on Friday. He's not on the 40 man roster.

Nope. They were talking about the Rays being in first place, and Joe went into the "Kazmir used to be on the Mets (which of course isn't technically true, was he ever called up?) saying that the team thought it could make a run and moved him. Then he said, "Of course that was the previous GM who made that deal."

I like Miller.
I really do.

And once I got past the fact that he views everything with the exuberance of a child I began to enjoy listening to him.
He also must have the patience of a saint to work the booth with Morgan.

Every once in a while I will hear him throw in a zinger towards Joe, but he does it with such panache that Joe doesn't even realize its a zinger.
But mostly he knows he has a job to do, and its along side Morgan, and he makes the best of it and shows me he's a team player.

I like him.

Me: Yeah, he came out to change pitchers and I dropped my pants and started wanking right then and there. I was a little embarassed for myself, but then I looked around and everybody was doing it.

Great game. Found some excellent seats at cheap prices -- I may never be able to go back to the Mezzanine ever again. Couldn't believe that they actually have waiters that bring your food to your seats.

During one of the half innings, the diamondvision showed some Joe Morgan highlights and then put a shot of him in the TV booth on the screen. Plenty of boos.

The Wright-initiated DP was sweet but lots of credit to Castillo for turning it on an inaccurate throw by Wright to second.

Schoeneweis was pumped up after that groundball he induced -- big fist pump into his glove.

Beltran's homer hit the top of the GHI health plans sign, which is the advertising sign on the bottom right corner of the scoreboard.

Excellent end to the homestand. Our next seven series include the Giants, Padres, Mariners, Rockies and Rangers (five of the worst teams in baseball). Time to go on an extended run of winning series 2-1 or 3-1 (or better).

Yeah, he came out to change pitchers and I dropped my pants and started wanking right then and there. I was a little embarassed for myself, but then I looked around and everybody was doing it.

I wish my sister would hurry up and marry him so she could get on with divorcing him.

Is he a MFY fan, or just a causal baseball observer, or not even a big baseball observer at all and just knew Torre is now managing in LA and that the Mets were playing LA and/or that Torre was back in town (hard to escape with coverage in papers)?

That does sound more like something someone who isn't that big of a baseball fan would say.

]. Dodgers are ALWAYS a huge draw at Shea, ALWAYS. And the Dodgers will always be a huge draw at Citi Field. Has nothing to do with the skipper.

I'd be surprised if attendance for LAD games differed much from the overall norm at this point.
They did in the early days of the Mets (as did the Giants) when there were still plenty of NYers who either missed 'em or hissed 'em. But now that they're gone over half-a-century I suspect most of either emotion has died out and attendance for them is nothing special and simply varies along with the normal conditions of weather, time, standings, etc.

Great game. Found some excellent seats at cheap prices -- I may never be able to go back to the Mezzanine ever again. Couldn't believe that they actually have waiters that bring your food to your seats.

I was in the Soupcan Section Friday night, just a few boxes behind the Mets on-deck circle but we were unimpressed with the service from our personal handjobber, who was schmoozing with half the people and ignoring the other half. Didn't matter. The corned beef sandwhich stand was an easy get behind us. Quality Shea food, but $12.50 or something.

Actor Oliver Platt, who played Steinbrenner in Bronx is Burning, was sitting one section over. He was decked out in black jersey/black hat with his son (?) also in uniform.

I wonder how much of it is Show stepping up, and how much is it Willie using him against a higher percentage of lefties this year.

But yeah, Show's been pretty awesome.

You know Schoeneweis did have a torn hammy ligament that he was pitching with all last year.

That may be so, but Show's 07 platoon split numbers weren't too far off his career splits.

2007 BA / OBP / SLG:
Vs RHB: .316 / .390 / .574
Vs LHB: .204 / .308 / .247

Career BA / OBP / SLG:
Vs RHB: .292 / .364 / .465
Vs LHB: .224 / .299 / .292

So, he wasn't really THAT much off his career numbers last year. I think his failure was due more to misuse than anything else.

He's a bloated, tatooed, obnoxious, "Got Rings?" tee-shirted lout. Every time I see him, it takes Herculean restraint to keep from punching him.

yes, schoenweis can be an effective lefty specilaist, but the mets clearly didnt see him in that role when they gave him a 3 year multi million dollar deal.

Using the word clearly in this manner rings an alarm. It usually implies there is supposition and guesswork, not evidence.
