IGT 06/01/08 Sunday night, Dodgers at Mets
Benjamin Grimm Jun 01 2008 04:18 PM |
Church in the starting lineup!
AG/DC Jun 01 2008 04:27 PM |
Plus Castillo.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 05:00 PM |
I do too. "It's only one game", but when your 150 million dollar ace is going I figure it's important to win the series and avoid the split.
AG/DC Jun 01 2008 05:10 PM |
Maybe there'll be a transaction or two after the game and a couple of fresh bodies to meet them on the coast.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 05:17 PM |
Alou too?
seawolf17 Jun 01 2008 06:04 PM |
Miller: "A beautiful night here in New York, in the shadow of the legendary Yankee Stadium."
Fman99 Jun 01 2008 06:06 PM |
No offense to ol' penis-nose over in the other dugout but I hope to see the Mets thrash these stupid Dodgers tonight. Good to see Church back in the lineup.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:11 PM |
I like the way Chavez plays the outfield.
bmfc1 Jun 01 2008 06:11 PM |
If you have Fox Sports Atlantic, the NO Zephyrs are on live. Nelson Figueroa on the mound. David Newhan batting cleanup for Round Rock.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:13 PM |
I'm really not in the mood for Morgan and Miller.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:16 PM |
A double by Pierre off Wrights glove and a Kemp rbingle makes it 1-0 LA.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:19 PM |
Nice pick off.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:25 PM |
Reyes is going to hurt himself.
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:25 PM |
Goddamit stop bunting.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:26 PM |
Lead off single by Reyes.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:27 PM |
Tie this game Mr Wright!

metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 06:29 PM |
Robbed!
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:30 PM |
Slide please Reyes. Beltran was telling him stay to the right. Willie tried to sternly tell Reyes but Reyes walked right by him.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:30 PM |
NO! He was safe!

Remeber that Verducci article where he said the umps got a total of four calls wrong at first for an entire year? The day after I read that article was the Washington game that had four blown calls at first. Since then it feels like I've seen three games where there HASN'T been a blown call at first.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 06:41 PM |
Santana is a monster!

For NO, Chris Aguila has two homers tonight. He's a righty OF with 14 HRs this year. How about calling him up and sending Evans down?
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 06:48 PM |
Church gave it a ride!
Elster88 Jun 01 2008 06:48 PM |
Church with a lazy pop fly in his first at-bat back. Got to the track but he kinda hit it straight up.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 06:50 PM |
Nice to see Church back in the line up. The team could really use his bat.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 06:55 PM |
Damn close! Wright earned that Gold Glove, screw Chipper.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 06:56 PM |
Great barehand play and throw by Wright, but Kemp just beats it out for a single.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 06:57 PM |
Web gem!!!!
Zvon Jun 01 2008 06:59 PM |
Reyes with the diving stop and its a DP!
Zvon Jun 01 2008 07:03 PM |
Nice play by Kemp to close the gap and Reyes is held to a double.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 07:07 PM |
Drive him in Mr Wright!!!
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 07:07 PM |
Reyes was rather fortunate that the pick off throw to second by Kurida was in the dirt. The SS snuck in behind Reyes and Reyes was pretty late breaking back.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 07:10 PM |
The Wright stuff.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 07:10 PM |
D-WRIGHT!!!!!
Zvon Jun 01 2008 07:10 PM |

Kaboom!!!
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 07:13 PM |
Heck, looked like it was in the lower third of the scoreboard. A monster bash!
themetfairy Jun 01 2008 07:14 PM |
That blast was a thing of beauty!
SteveJRogers Jun 01 2008 07:14 PM |
What context was the Kazmir trade spoken about? Same as what you said about all the changes that happened since?
bmfc1 Jun 01 2008 07:16 PM |
Fantasy baseball question for the group: I have Delgado. I got him in the 20th round of my 12 team mixed 5 X 5. I'm in 6th. Jay Bruce is a FA. As much as it pains me to drop a Met, I'm going to put in for Bruce. Does anybody disagree w/this move?
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 07:17 PM |
Nope. They were talking about the Rays being in first place, and Joe went into the "Kazmir used to be on the Mets (which of course isn't technically true, was he ever called up?) saying that the team thought it could make a run and moved him. Then he said, "Of course that was the previous GM who made that deal."
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 07:17 PM |
I couldn't tell you for sure., Steve. I try to block out as much of their innane banter as possible.

Torre realizing that managing is more difficult without a $200 million payroll.
seawolf17 Jun 01 2008 07:21 PM |
Walk Chavez to pitch to Santana? Isn't Santana a better hitter right now?
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 07:21 PM |
It appears that Kuroda is throwing BP this inning.
Frayed Knot Jun 01 2008 07:23 PM |
We need to smack this Kuo dude around just because we owe him a few.

All this offense froze my PC and I missed a kaboom.
I don't. Id be losin hair if I had Delgado.

For mbtn trivia--when Santana pitches to Maza, I wonder if that's the first time a #57 pitches to a #57.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 07:32 PM |
Did Miller just say "We'll be back with Joe Torre from the Mets dugout?" What does he think this is 1979?
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 07:34 PM |
Joe: "Is there any difference between the leagues?"

For NO, a single for Aguila--3 for 3 w/a walk, 2 HR.

TREMENDOUS double play, Wright to Castillo to Delgado.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 08:04 PM |
Sweet doble play by the Mets. Great stab of a one hop smash by Wright and a fine off balance pivot by Castillo.
Fman99 Jun 01 2008 08:07 PM |
Blah blah blah blah blah. Miller and Morgan are asses.

Frayed Knot Jun 01 2008 08:27 PM |
Santana's really been fine all night -- I'll take 1 run over 7 anytime.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 08:28 PM |
I like Miller. I really do. And once I got past the fact that he views everything with the exuberance of a child I began to enjoy listening to him. He also must have the patience of a saint to work the booth with Morgan. Every once in a while I will hear him throw in a zinger towards Joe, but he does it with such panache that Joe doesn't even realize its a zinger. But mostly he knows he has a job to do, and its along side Morgan, and he makes the best of it and shows me he's a team player. I like him. And welcome aboard VCF. Nice to meetchya.
Vince Coleman Firecracker Jun 01 2008 08:30 PM |

Frayed Knot Jun 01 2008 08:34 PM |
Would be really nice to see this lineup w/a healthy Church/Alou/Castillo for a sustained time added to the regular mix. Paticularly with a hotter Reyes leading it all off.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 08:36 PM |
Santana up to 94 pitches.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 08:41 PM |
Juan Pierre has a little Joe Morgan wing action going.
metsguyinmichigan Jun 01 2008 08:42 PM |

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 01 2008 08:43 PM |
I say we keep Santana
Zvon Jun 01 2008 08:43 PM |
Those two in the dirt to Kemp show me Santana's done for the night.
Frayed Knot Jun 01 2008 08:44 PM |
So he leaves with 1 run (plus two runners) on 6 hits - 5 of them singles and even the double (Pierre leading off the game) was nothing more than a well-placed bouncer - and two? walks thru 7-2/3.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 08:47 PM |

Frayed Knot Jun 01 2008 08:48 PM |
Willie NOT overdoing it here IMO.
Vince Coleman Firecracker Jun 01 2008 08:50 PM |
I like the pitching moves Willie's made this inning. I don't even mind seeing Kent get plunked.
Rockin' Doc Jun 01 2008 08:52 PM |
Show has really stepped up big this year.
Zvon Jun 01 2008 08:53 PM |

lol (I can laugh cuz I read this after the inning was over)
Vince Coleman Firecracker Jun 01 2008 08:57 PM |

I wonder how much of it is Show stepping up, and how much is it Willie using him against a higher percentage of lefties this year. But yeah, Show's been pretty awesome.

Zvon--for Friday, is a "You Don't Mess With the Johan" sign possible?
seawolf17 Jun 01 2008 09:04 PM |
It's NOT JOE FUCKING TORRE. It's the Dodgers, it's the first weekend of the summer, it's a million things. You see Joe Fucking Torre shirts in the crowd? Yankee hats? NO. You see Mets hats, and Keith Fucking Hernandez shirts, and Russ Martin shirts for the Dodger fans, and Ricky Fucking Otero shirts. (Yes, I saw one yesterday afternoon.) Those are Mets fans, Jon & Joe. Mets fans. I know... stunning! Mets fans?!? In New York!?! But this is Yankee Country! These must all be Joe Torre fans! It has nothing at all to do with the last year of the ballpark, or Johan Santana pitching, or the fact that the team has won 4 out of 5, or because we all have man-crushes on David Wright. It's all Joe Fucking Torre.

HA! ITA. Dodgers are ALWAYS a huge draw at Shea, ALWAYS. And the Dodgers will always be a huge draw at Citi Field. Has nothing to do with the skipper. Dodgers drew big at Shea when Jim Tracy and Glenn Hoffman were the skippers!

My loudmouth future ex-brother-in-law: Youse at da Met game? You see Torre? Me: Yeah, he came out to change pitchers and I dropped my pants and started wanking right then and there. I was a little embarassed for myself, but then I looked around and everybody was doing it. I wish my sister would hurry up and marry him so she could get on with divorcing him.
Gwreck Jun 01 2008 10:39 PM |
Great game. Found some excellent seats at cheap prices -- I may never be able to go back to the Mezzanine ever again. Couldn't believe that they actually have waiters that bring your food to your seats.

SteveJRogers Jun 01 2008 11:04 PM |

Is he a MFY fan, or just a causal baseball observer, or not even a big baseball observer at all and just knew Torre is now managing in LA and that the Mets were playing LA and/or that Torre was back in town (hard to escape with coverage in papers)? That does sound more like something someone who isn't that big of a baseball fan would say.
Frayed Knot Jun 02 2008 06:56 AM |

I'd be surprised if attendance for LAD games differed much from the overall norm at this point. They did in the early days of the Mets (as did the Giants) when there were still plenty of NYers who either missed 'em or hissed 'em. But now that they're gone over half-a-century I suspect most of either emotion has died out and attendance for them is nothing special and simply varies along with the normal conditions of weather, time, standings, etc.

I was in the Soupcan Section Friday night, just a few boxes behind the Mets on-deck circle but we were unimpressed with the service from our personal handjobber, who was schmoozing with half the people and ignoring the other half. Didn't matter. The corned beef sandwhich stand was an easy get behind us. Quality Shea food, but $12.50 or something. Actor Oliver Platt, who played Steinbrenner in Bronx is Burning, was sitting one section over. He was decked out in black jersey/black hat with his son (?) also in uniform.

You know Schoeneweis did have a torn hammy ligament that he was pitching with all last year.
What can I say - those guys know a poseur when they see one.

That may be so, but Show's 07 platoon split numbers weren't too far off his career splits. 2007 BA / OBP / SLG: Vs RHB: .316 / .390 / .574 Vs LHB: .204 / .308 / .247 Career BA / OBP / SLG: Vs RHB: .292 / .364 / .465 Vs LHB: .224 / .299 / .292 So, he wasn't really THAT much off his career numbers last year. I think his failure was due more to misuse than anything else.

He's a bloated, tatooed, obnoxious, "Got Rings?" tee-shirted lout. Every time I see him, it takes Herculean restraint to keep from punching him.

yes, schoenweis can be an effective lefty specilaist, but the mets clearly didnt see him in that role when they gave him a 3 year multi million dollar deal.

Using the word clearly in this manner rings an alarm. It usually implies there is supposition and guesswork, not evidence.
