Heard on the FAN that Church said he's not 100%. Seems like the Mets are living dangerously with this guy.

In a pre-game SNY interview, Reyes' hair was sparkling. What's up with that?

Randy Winns.

Frayed Knot Jun 02 2008 08:32 PM |
The one thing that usually allows Ollie to get away with all those walks is that he kept the ball in the park.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2008 08:36 PM |
At this rate I won;t make it to the 3rd inning
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2008 08:40 PM |
Nor shall Ollie.
Nymr83 Jun 02 2008 08:41 PM |
according to baseball reference he's thrown only 58% of his pitches for strikes this year, down from 62% each of the last 2 years (it was 64% for that very good year he had in 2004)
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 08:42 PM |
The Mets should've gotten this Durham fellow.
metirish Jun 02 2008 08:42 PM |
Fuck this , Bad Ollie , night all.

Vargas warming. God, Perez sucks.

Oliver calls him "Daddy."
Nymr83 Jun 02 2008 08:46 PM |
he just walked the #8 hitter and Perez will leave the game having recorded ONE out.
themetfairy Jun 02 2008 08:46 PM |
Ollie's night is done after one third of an inning. 6 runs in and a runner he's responsible on base.

Little too early Irish.

TransMonk Jun 02 2008 08:47 PM |
Is Billy preparing a postgame tonguelashing for Ollie as we speak?
Nymr83 Jun 02 2008 08:47 PM |
i'm out of here too, i have no problem being sleep deprived for a baseball game, but i wont do it for Giants' batting practice.
Centerfield Jun 02 2008 08:48 PM |
Fuck Perez.
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 08:48 PM |
Sure there is. The Mets comeback win will be all the sweeter.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2008 08:50 PM |
Wonder if Perez doesn't wind up on the DL and we delay the whole Pelfrey-or-Vargas decision for a few weeks. I mean, what is the excuse otherwise.
Fman99 Jun 02 2008 08:52 PM |
I just got here, what the fuck?
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 08:52 PM |
The fuck got us.
Gwreck Jun 02 2008 08:53 PM |
Maybe, although given the use of Vargas in long relief tonight sure seems to signal a ticket back to Norfolk for Muniz.
TransMonk Jun 02 2008 08:54 PM |
I don't know if they can put him on the DL for being a dumb-ass.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2008 08:55 PM |
Wagner's gonna go break his arm.
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 08:58 PM |

See, this is the kind of criticism I don't get. What's dumb about pitching poorly? Do you think he did that on purpose?
Fman99 Jun 02 2008 08:59 PM |
The chipping away has begun. 6-1.
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 08:59 PM |
Jose brings us within 5! Here comes the comeback!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 02 2008 08:59 PM |
Reyes looks great at the plate recently. He's right on everything and not overdoing it.

Rockin' Doc Jun 02 2008 09:04 PM |
Is suckage a legitimate reason to DL Ollie?
TransMonk Jun 02 2008 09:06 PM |
I don't think he did it on purpose. I think Perez has way to much talent to pitch as badly as he does. Physical talent will only take you so far...eventually you have to learn how to pitch. I believe that is the difference btween Perez being an ace and Perez being Perez.
Fman99 Jun 02 2008 09:08 PM |
A dart by Castro to throw out the would-be stealer. Nicely done.
metirish Jun 02 2008 09:10 PM |
Well it's not like Ollie can go to the bullpen so we take the bad with the good , maybe the flight did his head in.
Gwreck Jun 02 2008 09:10 PM |
Time for us to chip away a little more. This game is totally winnable.
Fman99 Jun 02 2008 09:11 PM |
I agree. Their Sanchez isn't nearly as Dirty as ours is.
Frayed Knot Jun 02 2008 09:12 PM |
If that's a serious question (and I suspect it isn't) the answer is no. Teams do occasionally get away with telling players (rookies mostly) to accept a DL slot and to tell anyone who asks that you sprained your upper left McGoogle joint. But it is against various rules to do that and players can challenge the club if they think they're being railroaded and a vet like Perez would probably do just that. Besides, you can't play in minor league games while DL'd which kinda would defeat the whole purpose in this case.

Fman99 Jun 02 2008 09:19 PM |
These Mets don't seem to be picking up Sanchez' pitches very well in this inning.
Fman99 Jun 02 2008 09:20 PM |
... until Delgado pops up the first pitch.

I'm not the most knowledgeable poster when it comes to roster moves, but I did know that Perez's poor performance wasn't an acceptable reason for placing him on the DL. I was just doing some wishful thinking. I just tried to played off Transmonk's desire to DL Perez for "being a dumb-ass." Unfortunately, I believe the Mets are stuck with Ollie's inconsistent, all or nothing performance for the duration of his contract. Perez certainly isn't enhancing his market value in his walk year.
Frayed Knot Jun 02 2008 09:33 PM |
Speed -- there is no substitute

99 - "Castro scores from 2nd on an RBI single by Castillo, despite carrying a piano on his back the last 50 feet."

It's not the carrying that bothers me, but does he really have to stop and play it?

Gwreck Jun 02 2008 09:37 PM |
8 runners left on through 4 innings for the Mets.

This game sucks enough to deserve the Joanie Loves Chachi Theme Song:
AG/DC Jun 02 2008 10:32 PM |
A sac fly with Benjie Molina on third? You've got to contest that. But we do not.
AG/DC Jun 02 2008 10:35 PM |
Muniz left out to dry on his last day in the bigs.
AG/DC Jun 02 2008 10:41 PM |
Aaron gets a big out as a Paul McCartney lookalike shows up on Joanie Loves Chachi.

Infield in down 10-2 in the ninth.

O'Really-yeah (it's Irish Heritiage night) pops and there are two away.

Brillaint. Positive outing (relatively) for Heilman.
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 11:02 PM |
The Mets really have their work cut our for them to rally from 8 runs down in the 9th with 2 outs.
Willets Point Jun 02 2008 11:02 PM |
And it ends with Wright.
AG/DC Jun 02 2008 11:02 PM |
Time's up.

All the suck they brought for the West Coast trip they left on the field tonight. It gets better tomorrow. Uh, later today.
G-Fafif Jun 03 2008 04:45 AM |
Was last night the first time Carlos Muniz's uniform carried a tilde, thus making his last name MUŅIZ even though it continues to be pronounced Myoo-neez (and even though it will be pronounced at New Orleans for a while)?

An embarrassing loss, and I had to hear it from five colleagues who attended the game with me.
