Heard on the FAN that Church said he's not 100%. Seems like the Mets are living dangerously with this guy.

In a pre-game SNY interview, Reyes' hair was sparkling. What's up with that?

The one thing that usually allows Ollie to get away with all those walks is that he kept the ball in the park.
Lately he's become HR-happy

Nor shall Ollie.

Nymr83
Jun 02 2008 08:41 PM

according to baseball reference he's thrown only 58% of his pitches for strikes this year, down from 62% each of the last 2 years (it was 64% for that very good year he had in 2004)

for comparison, Maine has been at 63% this year and last, 62 the year before. Santana is at 65% this year, 68, 69 and 70 the last 3 years.

throwing strikes is good.

he just walked the #8 hitter and Perez will leave the game having recorded ONE out.

when pedro comes back we should keep Pelfrey and send Perez down to work on his strike-throwing.

Ollie's night is done after one third of an inning. 6 runs in and a runner he's responsible on base.

There's no way to spin this into anything good.

Maybe, although given the use of Vargas in long relief tonight sure seems to signal a ticket back to Norfolk for Muniz.

I don't think he did it on purpose. I think Perez has way to much talent to pitch as badly as he does. Physical talent will only take you so far...eventually you have to learn how to pitch. I believe that is the difference btween Perez being an ace and Perez being Perez.

If that's a serious question (and I suspect it isn't) the answer is no.

Teams do occasionally get away with telling players (rookies mostly) to accept a DL slot and to tell anyone who asks that you sprained your upper left McGoogle joint. But it is against various rules to do that and players can challenge the club if they think they're being railroaded and a vet like Perez would probably do just that.

Besides, you can't play in minor league games while DL'd which kinda would defeat the whole purpose in this case.

These Mets don't seem to be picking up Sanchez' pitches very well in this inning.

Nice - Tatis sneaks on as the SS hesitates and double clutches. The inning continues.

I'm not the most knowledgeable poster when it comes to roster moves, but I did know that Perez's poor performance wasn't an acceptable reason for placing him on the DL. I was just doing some wishful thinking. I just tried to played off Transmonk's desire to DL Perez for "being a dumb-ass."

Unfortunately, I believe the Mets are stuck with Ollie's inconsistent, all or nothing performance for the duration of his contract. Perez certainly isn't enhancing his market value in his walk year.

An embarrassing loss, and I had to hear it from five colleagues who attended the game with me.

On the plus side, we had killer seats and excellent food. Silver lining: if we need Ollie out of the pen, he's plenty rested.
