High heat. That's what Pelfrey had working on Saturday. High heat.

Gwreck
Jun 05 2008 07:54 PM

I don't Jody Gerut's played in the majors for a few years. Strange to see him leading off, to boot.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 08:01 PM

Tony Gwynn's weight has swung into the Rusty Staub neighborhood.

Not a safe neighborhood

Khalil strikes me as a talented but undermotivated rich kid.

Fman99
Jun 05 2008 08:16 PM

Wasted opportunity there as the Mets can't plate Reyes from 2nd with no out.

boo

themetfairy

Scoreless after a quick inning.

themetfairy
Jun 05 2008 08:36 PM

That's why we HAVE and Endy Chavez! Nice catch!

Jun 05 2008 09:05 PM

The Met defense is saving Pelfrey's tuchus this evening.

Fman99
Jun 05 2008 09:13 PM

Hey I have an idea. How about a hit with RISP? Too much to ask?

Fman99
Jun 05 2008 09:25 PM

Well the Mets are flashing the leather, at least, if not the lumber.

Time for the bottom of the lineup to make something happen (they are due).

LET'S GO METS!

(I may be the only one here. Oh well.)

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 09:41 PM

Sorry, I had to go have a domestic dustup.

themetfairy
Jun 05 2008 09:42 PM

I'm here. And I'm digging that double play - whew!

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 09:43 PM

Let's build on it.

Kouzmanoff should so be a Met.

Not grounding into double plays as a Met, though.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 09:51 PM

That's it. The spirit of Jerry Koosman brings offense. Who knew?

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 05 2008 09:56 PM

I believe that's the first run off that pitcher since he's come up.

Poor Pelf -- he pitches decently and they can't score for him!

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 09:59 PM

I don't get what the rule is there.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 10:07 PM

Nice play by Reyes.

Am I wrong to be encouraged by Pelfrey? He's still giving up too many hits but he's not getting killed. Maybe this is another step for him.

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 10:09 PM

If nothing else he's learning how to hang in there and fight through things.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 10:09 PM

Church looks like chrap.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:10 PM

I'm encouraged that Banks is out of the game.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:18 PM

If you're name even rhymes with Taguchi, you can hit Met pitching.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 10:27 PM

Smooth move, Ex-lax.

I'm getting tired of Feliciano putting on the only guys he's asked to get out.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:27 PM

Wally Bell, American hero.

Nymr83
Jun 05 2008 10:29 PM

Pelfrey got the job done tonight and the results were good, but 6 innings 8 hits 3 walks 1 k will get you in big trouble most of the time.

joe smith just ran the count full on kouzmanoff before getting the job done. can we have a run please?

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 10:31 PM

I'd bet our trying for base hits 'Bunting Average' this year to be around .050
Therefore I wish we'd quit doing it so much.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 10:32 PM

Abraham Nunez-- third No. 6 this year!

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 10:33 PM

Hope they're cleaning the unis before re-issuing.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:35 PM

I told you this team was sixy.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:38 PM

Castillo batting with gum on his helmet.

Hey, Luis! Are trying to make me sick?!

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 10:39 PM

There was some 3rd baseman drafted today in the 1st round (Brett Wallace - Cardinals) who was built like Heath Bell only with a bigger butt and legs.
The blog I was reading held out little hope that he'd stay a 3rd baseman.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:46 PM

I go to Wagner to face Gerut.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:47 PM

But I find Gerut tapping out to Duaner very fulfilling.

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 10:51 PM

Wright's getting 'upper-cutty' again.
Surprised Keith hasn't said something.

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 10:58 PM

Put in Wags.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 11:00 PM

uh-oh

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 11:01 PM

Oh yeah, leadoff walk in front of the only guys on this team who can hit.
That's a good idea!

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 11:03 PM

I have trouble abiding holding the closers out of these games.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 11:03 PM

Got 'em set up for the Triple play

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 11:05 PM

Darn near got it

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 11:06 PM

Nope. The 1-5-4-3 triple play ball turns into an accidental sacrifice by Gonzalez.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 05 2008 11:07 PM

Oh for god sakes. HBP-off

Frayed Knot
Jun 05 2008 11:07 PM

Futher-Mucker!!

AG/DC
Jun 05 2008 11:07 PM

Stupid.

Use Wagner next time.

DocTee
Jun 05 2008 11:09 PM

three walks and a hit batsman. fugly.

Nymr83
Jun 05 2008 11:37 PM

unfuckingbelievable. 3 walks and a hit by pitch to end the game. Schoenweis does not belong in a game except to get out a lefty in the middle innings. he is atrocious.

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 05 2008 11:39 PM

Terrible. Those are the games good teams win. You roll into these bad teams' stadiums, kick their ass and move on. You just don't walk the bleeping bases loaded and plunk in the winning run.

Methead
Jun 06 2008 06:46 AM

Ugh. Glad I fell asleep in the 8th.

I probably wouldn't have slept so well if I'd seen that ending.

He's been fine all year and was facing almost all LHBs in last night.
The inning didn't cause his bad pitching.

Not for nothing, but Pelfrey may still be tipping pitches. After Gonzalez smoked that liner that Endy snared, the SNY cameras caught him (Adrian) a minute later in the dugout talking with someone, and he showed the dude he was talking to two different arm angles and on one of them you could clearly see him mouth "fastball".

He saw something anyway.

Fell asleep with the radio on and woke up thinking that the Mets had won 2-1.

Are you referring to the catcher-falling-into-the-dugout rule?

I had never heard of that one either. Clearly Schneider was aware of it, since he flipped that ball behind him as he was heading down the stairs.

Why would a runner advance to second base on a foul ball if the catcher falls into the dugout after a catch? Does he automatically get to tag up if the fielder is outside the field of play? If that's the case, why should it matter whether Schneider stumbled or trotted into the dugout?

I'm in my 38th year of watching baseball, and I'm still seeing stuff I've never seen before.

Frayed Knot

"Are you referring to the catcher-falling-into-the-dugout rule?"

Yes.

I find the explanation (speculated by Cohen) that the rule is different for a catcher going into the dugout on his feet versus falling in to be silly beyond belief.
