You Gotta Have Heart

Last night, SNY showed clips before the 11th and 12th innings of the 1969 Mets on the Ed Sullivan show singing "You Gotta Have Heart" as a chorus. Anyone aware of any links to this video online? It is priceless! Absolutely should be rolled out at Shea on a semi-regular basis. The show's captions identified each player by his given name: Donald Dyer, Frank McGraw, Gerald Grote, Darryl (which Cohen pointed should have been Derrel) Harrelson, etc. Keith and Ron both claimed to have seen it live when it first broadcast. Keith would have been 15, but I am a little skeptical about Ron who would have been 9 years old at the time.

Silly, but it was tough to imagine them losing after those clips aired.

Those clips were great. Why couldn't Ron have been watching Ed Sullivan when he was nine? When I was a little kid, I'd watch things like Merv Griffin and David Frost, because that's what my parents were watching. Ron Darling could very well have had the same experience with the Ed Sullivan Show.

It's not like much else was on for a kid that age back in the day. The clip is available on the "25 Years of New York Mets Baseball: An Amazin' Era" video. The Mets appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show on October 19, 1969. Other guests on that show were the musical group Smith, Cyd Charisse and Joan Rivers.

CBS, not MLB would had to have JPhilip41'ed it though. But I do see vintage stuff on YouTube from old variety shows, such as The Johnny Cash show pop up, so maybe do different searches.
