The last couple chix I've dated are bonkers about text messaging. I've never ever used it and never even used the free 100 my carrier would give me every month.

The last girl, in self defense, made me bump up to the 300/month deal, which seems like a lot, and it kinda is.

Now I passed over 300 this month and had to pay $5 more/month to go unlimited.

In the beginning, I'd only use it for something like:
]
Me: "Sorry i'm late. I'm parking the car NOW!!!"

Person: "K."

And that'd be that.

Nowadays, conversations are breaking out, and they take too long to develop, have no essence, it's easy to misinterpret shit, and it pisses people off around you that you're actually hanging with if you have to answer in front of them (and it should).

I'm still pretty good about not zoning out on the phone in front of peeps, but it's happened once or twice.

How do you feel about them? How often to you text?

C U Later. :) LOL... ROFL :P

I only did it once, when I got my new phone and was playing around. I snapped a photo of my nostrils and sent it to my brother-in-law. We then exchanged a few pleasantries about my nostrils, and that was that.

I may be old fashioned, but I don't see the point in texting when you have a telephone which is capable of conveying an actual conversation.

That's how they get ya. If I had a cellphone co I'd give out texting free to hot chixx then watch as the profits rolled in.

Never use it, but If I ever want to slow up foot traffic on a busy street or elevator, I know that's how to do it.

I had the multi media package from my carrier AT&T , it struck me yesterday that it was a complete waste of $19 a month so I called them to cancel ,

Rep " do you text often? ,

Me - " I dunno , I have since my son was born I would snap pics and send them , how many did I send in the last 4 months?

REP - " 19

Me - " So really I don't need it.

And really trying to go online on a cell phone is rubbish , so I have saved myself $19 and if I need to send any texts it will be 20 cents per.

When this current contract is up I am considering getting a pay as you go phone.

I tend to be a technology curmudgeon and abhor most cell phone features (other than the dialing/listening/talking functions) but find the text messages invaluable for the following reasons:

1. Speed. Sending a text message that says "I'll be there in 15 minutes" can be a lot faster than having to dial, wait for the rings and actually talk to someone. Especially handy if it's someone who yammers on the phone and can't just take a 3 second message and hang up, or if you sometimes just don't want to freakin' talk to people.

2. Convenience. There are a lot of places where it's a pain in the ass to use the phone -- like, say -- Shea Stadium. A concert. When you're near elevated subway tracks. If it's a short message or something critical, it can be texted rather than trying to call and doing the endless "What? I can't hear you! I'm at the [ ]!" (Concert, Ballgame, etc.)

3. Etiquette. Drives me absolutely crazy how people on the bus, in the subway, at a restaurant, etc. just can't stop yammering on their phone. Can be easily avoided by using a text message. Also handy for meetings or classes where you can't just whip out the phone and take a call, but can send or receive a discreet message if necessary.

4. Google SMS. Free directory assistance can be had by texting to 46645 ("GOOGL"). Text as "Listing name, zip code" or "Listing name, city, state" and it'll come up most of the time. Very handy, faster and cheaper than doing directory assistance from the cell phone. I think Google SMS also supports other features but, as said above, I'm too much of a technology curmudgeon to figure out what they are.

I have a phone with Internet capability, so I will e-mail from my phone. I don't have texting on my kids' phones, so it's not an issue with them. I will use texting very rarely, usually if I want to send a picture from my phone. The only texts I've received have been from a friend in California who was surveying her friends about something and was looking for an answer ASAP.

I understand the appeal of texting, but without a QWERTY keyboard and with the current costs associated with it I tend to avoid it.

very rarely, typing on a phone annoys me.

I'd use them more if I could send them to my daughter. Her cell phone provider* won't talk to mine.

I'd rather send e-mails from my phone, though.

i'd pay extra if i could get a phone that responded to all texters with a message along the following lines:

"thank you for your half-assed attempt to communicate with me. since you have a phone in your hands, feel free to use it next time. It'll save wear n tear on your thumbs, and prevent the further corruption of the English language arising from the repeated replacement of words with cute little symbols and abbreviations. Have a nice day :)"

Still don't have a cell phone so I'll just have to say "not applicable."

I can imagine my large fingers on a cell phone key pad making many, many errors and driving myself crazy.

I like using text messages as first contact, because their easier to brush off and read later if you're busy. I always worry that I'm going to interrupt something important with a phone call.

As for carrying out a conversation, the phone is preferable to me. But I'm also young enough that some of my friends don't give a damn and will text the hell out of me anyway.

I have received a few text messages over the years from my cellular service provider, but that's about it. I have never sent a text message and I'm not sure I would know how if I ever desired to do so. If I wish to talk with someone, I'll call them.

At our company holiday party one of my buddies' wives spent the whole night texting a couple of her friends. Totally stupid.

Thanks anyway. I send/receive maybe 3-4 per month at work.

My sources are starting to do it more and more, so I'm forced to. Difference is they have Crackberries with the little keyboards and I have a basic phone, so it takes me forever.

The kids in my college class had to help me figure out how to send one.

If an unsuspecting young one happened upon this place he or she might think it's a board for old fucks.

No doubt. I was dumbfounded when I read recently that the youth today consider e-mail a tool used by old people. But it seems so modern and space age?!?!
