The year of the locust

17 year locusts (cicadas?) coming out all over in our yard and woods right now.

My 19 year old son and I just took a tour of the yard. Obviously he doesn't remember the last time. I told him that they were out when we bought the house, I guess we've been here that long.

This is my third time. 1974 when I was confirmed, 1991 when we moved in here.

I am hoping they like to eat gypsy moths

They are out in full force now...they are a strange bug. They fly kind of gracefully, yet kind of clumsily. (word?) They have enormous red eyes but seemingly can't see.

The noise they make is constant, loud and surreal. It is like being on a strange planet.

I am surprised that more of you don't have these, but maybe you don't have trees.

I have trees, but no locusts.

I think it's too damn hot for locusts right now.

We are in the midst of a record setting heat wave. It's 96 right now at 8:30 PM. It was 103 this afternoon. Has been 99 or more everyday since Thursday.
