Finalists are down to:

Tokyo, Japan
Madrid, Spain
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Chicago, USA

I go to Rio.

I second Rio.

The entire continent of South America has never hosted the games and both the US and Spain have hosted games within the previous quarter century. Rio would be fitting the Olympics ideals of international unity and participation.

I'll go with Chicago.

Asia has them this year , Europe in 2012.(London)

So it will be North America's turn , unless they have the Winter games then it could be Rio....

Now I have Duran Duran's Rio stuck in my head.

The Olympics have never been in South America? That should, if nothing else, tilt it towards Rio. (Which is, incidentally, the only one of the four final cities that I've never been to.)

Sidney and Melbourne remain the only southern hemisphere hosts so far.

I was quoting a different song of course, which is stuck in my head. Not even the original version, either:

If we're taking turns, South America has been waiting since forever.

They could make the girl from Ipanema the official mascot

Brazil will host the 2014 Soccer World Cup so they would have a lot of the infrastructure in place for the 2016 Games , would be a good choice.

When does Antarctica get a shot?

When hell freezes over.

Of course.

Agreed. That'd get my vote. Of course, the IOC keeps rejecting my membership application.

The IOC will whittle down the list after the first round of bribes.

I need a job where I can accept bribes. You'd think college admissions would be the perfect thing for that, but it's totally not.

Honestly? You'd be surprised this year. Lots of angry, disappointed students and parents.

"I understand your frustration perfectly, Mr. and Mrs. Longislandstein. Times are hard. Why, I can barely afford medicine for my beloved dog. What I do is keep this here glass jar on my desk and put a dollar in it every time I curse. That way I can turn something bad into something good and maybe Snuffy can get better. Now I'm going to turn around and look thoughtfully out the window... ."

That was many years ago, Vic. Things have changed quite a bit around these parts.

Will Chicago have extra votes from dead members of the IOC casting ballots?

One man's hell is another man's nirvana.

The IOC may be the only organization more corrupt than a Daley-run Chicago.
