Track question

Anyone here with any experience?

Why do sprinters start from a four-point crouch, and long jumpers, who are also frequently sprinters, start from standing up?

I'm guessing the sprinter needs a more explosive start, and the long jumper needs to build momentum?

That's it.
Jumpers (long or high) just need to build towards a controlled sprint, not an all-out one.
Sprinters not only want a full-out sprint but need to get there as quickly as possible, ideally within the first 3 or 4 strides.
