Wow! Three total shockers as far as I'm concerned!

Maine seems to have beaten Santana on the basis of one extra start, but still.

Nice work on the cards and the press release.

Is relief Pitcher of the Month new , I don't remember that beofre , am I going crazy?

Maine wins by 0.05 points , just shows how important the voting can be , great work Ben Grim.

I wonder. Is that Figueroa's last gasp?

How about Heilman beating Wagner?

Heilman appeared in five more games than Wags.

Yes, it's new this year. And thanks!

If a relief pitcher wins Pitcher of the Month does that mean there will be a Starter of the Month?

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 04 2008 09:53 AM

No.

When a pitcher wins player of the month, there's no position player of the month.

That, along with Schoeneweis's margin over Wagner despite very similar stats,
continues last month's discussion about closers not getting their due.

Due to his role as closer, Wagner generally receives fewer opportunities to score points.

How much better could Wagner have done?

AG/DC
Jun 04 2008 11:01 AM

That should inform our voting, I think. I'm no exception there.

Which again opens up the discussion of whether closers are truly more valuable to their teams than the set-up men.

I don't necessarily think the results show a flaw with us, just the limits of Schaefering in general. Results here are more or less a random snapshot, in that usage patterns don't coincide with the calendar month.

Also, on the per-appearance basis (aka, "The Refreshment Index"), Wagner outscores all relievers.

True, especially since we don't award negative points when players have bad outings.

So if Aaron Heilman wins Player of the Month, he takes home all three trophies? Sweet.

I think that's the month that BG decides to amend Schaefer voting to award negative points ;)

Nah, it's kinda like golf, where the lowest score wins.

It's rather tough to take back the beer once they've drank it.
