Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:02 PM

Mets:

J. Reyes SS
L. Castillo 2B
Wright 3B
C. Beltran CF
D. Easley 1B
F. Tatis LF
B. Schneider C
E. Chavez RF
J. Santana P

Padres:

S. Hairston CF
E. Gonzalez 2B
B. Giles RF
A. Gonzalez 1B
K. Kouzmanoff 3B
K. Greene SS
J. Huber LF
M. Barrett C
R. Wolf P

Let's Go Mets!

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:18 PM

Not the best start. Castillo sits back on a slow grounder and then a single to left and it's 1st/2nd, no out.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:21 PM

Santana settles in, gets the GIDP and a fly out. On to the 2nd.

Am I flying solo tonight?

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:25 PM

Hmmm. So Willie sits Delgado against the lefty Wolf yet Schneider is catching and Castro is on the pine.

Let's see how that works out.

I'm here, but I'm on my way to bed. All you, man.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:27 PM

Six up, six down for the Mets hitters.

Aw, where's your alma mater-related loyalty? Sellout!

It's all good - my laptop battery is down to 36% as I didn't fully plug it in last night. So the IGT updates are going to end before the game does.

I'm doing my share!

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:29 PM

I'm with you 99.

It would be nice if the Mets could get a base runner.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:33 PM

Sweet. I will go get the adapter then.

Yeah - so far not much in the way of liveliness from the Mets' bats.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:35 PM

Nice catch in foul ground by Endy, on a ball that he overran a bit.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:36 PM

Santana puts 2 men on for the second straight inning. Two out and the pitcher at the dish.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:37 PM

Again he gets out of it on a grounder back to his own self.

On to the third...

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:41 PM

Not much fire power in the lower half of the Mets batting order tonight.

Hopefully, they will surprise me and jump on Wolf.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:44 PM

They should've hit Santana 7th tonight.

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:44 PM

Nine up, nine down.

:sigh:

Fman99
Jun 06 2008 08:45 PM

OK I'm gonna put the laptop away to tend to the baby who is a bit restless. Plus maybe it'll change the Mets luck.

Take it away Doc.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:48 PM

The sad thing is that Wolf is getting the Mets out primarily with his fastball (89-92 mph). He threw 17 pitches that inning and 14 of them were fastballs. Come on Mets, that's not Nolan Ryan out there.....it's Randy Wolf.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:50 PM

Fman99 - "OK I'm gonna put the laptop away to tend to the baby who is a bit restless..."

Just don't punch him in the neck.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:54 PM

Santana breezes through the third with a 1-2-3 inning.

Time for some Mets offense. Top of the order coming up.

Let's Go Mets!!!

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 08:57 PM

I tune in and Wright gets a two-out single.

YES!

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 08:59 PM

Edgy for batting instructor.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:04 PM

Padres announcers have nothing bad to say about Shea.

bmfc1
Jun 06 2008 09:07 PM

From Zvon, with love:

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:08 PM

I tune in and Damion Easley lines a base hit to start off the inning.

YES!

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:10 PM

Despite the hit, that inning really sucked. 3 outs on 4 pitches.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:10 PM

As the Mets give Wolf a four-pitch inning, I fear I must resign as batting coach.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:20 PM

Santana has retired the last 10 Padres in order.

Now let's get the man some runs, team.

G-Fafif
Jun 06 2008 09:20 PM

Wherever Ron Darling goes, he makes sure he's comfortable.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:21 PM

Endy! Endy!

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:21 PM

I told Endy to get an extra-base hit.

LGM cheers start.

We're going to Bunt City.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:22 PM

Wolf looking for trouble.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:23 PM

Santana should be on first. I don't know what's going on.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:24 PM

Adrian Gonzalez thinking he's Keith Hernandez.

What a sequence of shit.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:24 PM

Endy leads off the 6th with a double and the Mets have their first real scoring threat of the game.

Well, so much for that threat.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:26 PM

Damn. Can't by a break. Reyes' hit should have drove in a run.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:27 PM

Yabbut, bases loaded, one out, Wright up to face a lefty.

Definitely a scoring threat.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:27 PM

Bases are juiced for Wright. Now we're talkin'.

SteveJRogers
Jun 06 2008 09:28 PM

Good amount of Met fans here. Time to make some Noise

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:29 PM

2-0 Do you take?

SteveJRogers
Jun 06 2008 09:29 PM

well that scored the run

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:30 PM

No you don't.

I'm kind of both surprised and relieved that Reyes didn't try to do a two-base tag on that.

I've always wanted to see a two-base tag.

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:31 PM

What a catch. Asshole.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:31 PM

1-0 Mets on a sac fly by Wright. Reyes tags and moves to third.

This would be a great time for Beltran to come through.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:31 PM

Egads. The Mets would probably be up 4-0 if not for excellent defensive plays. Padres fans better give their fielders a lot of beer tonight.

Willets - -"Egads. The Mets would probably be up 4-0 if not for excellent defensive plays. Padres fans better give their fielders a lot of beer tonight."

Too bad they didn't give them plenty of beer before the game.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:39 PM

Bugger all.

themetfairy
Jun 06 2008 09:39 PM

The runner is hit by the batted ball. He's out and the runner at third is sent back. That's a break for the Mets.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:40 PM

At last something goes right for the Mets as the runner is hit by a batted ball.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:40 PM

How lucky. That sort of baserunning mistake should get a guy's head chewed off.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:41 PM

Rockin' Doc wrote:

For some ballplayers -- Babe Ruth, David Wells -- that's not a hindrance.

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 06 2008 09:41 PM

Way our bats are going, we can't afford to give up an runs!

themetfairy
Jun 06 2008 09:42 PM

The break is only temporary - tie game :(

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:43 PM

When the guy bunts, get the goddamn out at first. Now the runner on third will score. Jerk.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:43 PM

metsguyinmichigan wrote:

I'm going to disagree slightly. I don't want our pitchers trying to be too fine trying to throw a shutout to get the O off the hook. That's when big innings hap.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:44 PM

Willets Point - "For some ballplayers -- Babe Ruth, David Wells -- that's not a hindrance."

Well, neither of them make that catch under any circumstances.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 06 2008 09:46 PM

Damn it!

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:49 PM

We can get that back.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 09:50 PM

Well that could have been worse. Our guys coming to bat.

LETS

metsguyinmichigan

GO

bmfc1
Jun 06 2008 09:51 PM

METS!!!

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:52 PM

Tatis sucks by the way.

bmfc1
Jun 06 2008 09:55 PM

It's the 7th inning, the tying run is on, and the best the Mets can do is Robinson Cancel?

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:55 PM

Cancel here? Really? I guess there's no one else?

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 06 2008 09:56 PM

We can get to Wolfe!

Don't swing don't swing don't swing don't swing.
Edit: I swear on my life I posted this before Cancel swung at ball four.

bmfc1
Jun 06 2008 09:57 PM

That was ball four Cancel! Geez!

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:57 PM

Yup that was ball four. He swung.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 09:58 PM

Got to protect with two strikes. Blahblahblah.

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 09:59 PM

I am a Heilman supporter. I want him to succeed. Everytime a 50-odd illiterate woman calls up the FAN on a Saturday afternoon when I'm driving to the beach and says she can't stand his "puss", I get pissed off.

But I have no doubt he'll give up at least 3 runs if he pitches the eighth. Even against this shitty team.

Cancel's AB brought this blog post to mind, from earlier today:

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 10:00 PM

When was the last time Wolf threw a non-curve?

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 10:02 PM

Ya know I don't want Castillo swinging either. Prove me wrong Looie.

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 10:02 PM

Seems like Wolfgang is getting a little squeezed, to our benefit.

Stinking Castillo.

That was our chance.

We need to beat up on the lousy teams. Not good.

Course Cancel comes up when I make a run for new Batteries

Twist & shout by some Brittish band from I think the 60s is the Pads post TMOTTBG song

bmfc1
Jun 06 2008 10:11 PM

The Mets are carrying 3 catchers so this means that the #2 catcher can PH. Here, Castro could have hit but Willie chose a guy who hasn't had an AB in the majors since 1999!

AG/DC
Jun 06 2008 10:17 PM

OK, two more innings to inflict pain.

Elster88
Jun 06 2008 10:20 PM

The good news is Hoffman is terrible. The bad news is that it works out for the Fathers because their better reliever will face the heart of our order. I have no faith at all in Easley, Tatis, Schneider or Chavez. Ugh.

Willets Point
Jun 06 2008 10:47 PM

Well that sucks as much as Air Supply:

Frayed Knot
Jun 07 2008 07:54 AM

I'd say this was the most frustrating game of the year except I think I've said that about 5 times already.

- I couldn't believe Hairston caught up with Wright's drive. I already mentally put all 3 runs on the board.

- Those two plays at 3rd killed us:
1) The one that shouldn't have been made but was - Endy got a bad break off 2nd. Plus that was the Pads' only play cuz Johan was going beat Wolf to 1st and everyone would have been safe.
2) the one that should have been made but wasn't - Johan's bad throw

- The 2nd hit-by-ball play in a row was nice but all it did was delay the run anyway. And if that doesn't hit him maybe it's a DP (although it was hit kind slow)

I wanted at least 5 of 7 from this mini western trip, but now we need to sweep the final two just to go 4-3.
Right now we're 3-5 against the worst of the West (Col, SD & SF) and those are the teams everyone else is beating up on.

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 10:44 AM

Colorado probably isn't that bad. But San Francisco probably isn't that good.

San Diego seems to have about as much offense as they've shown us, but we still couldn't beat them.

Maybe Reyes should have tried to score from second on Hairston's catch, but he probably had to backtrack to get back to the base. You dont' want to stand there and get over-run by the runner on first.

Willie's Boner of the Game is probably pinch-hitting Cancel over Castro. I'd accept Casanova, because you can switch to a rightie to get Castro, but Casanova is a switch-hitter. Cancel has no advantage on Castro there, plus effectively knocks Castro to the end of the bench.

I don't want to get all "Castro is great," but the Boner of the Game committee will also accept starting Schneider over Castro. We could use Castro's power, until he gets hurt again.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 07 2008 12:15 PM

It seems that everytime the Mets start to show signs of life and appear ready to start playing better, they seem to go back into a funk. The offense is just too inconsistent. Reyes, Wright, and Beltran can't be the only reliable offensive threats in the line up. The Mets desperately need Church and Alou healthy enough to play and contribute on a regular basis.
