Let's Go Mets!

Good time to see O.P. turn it around and also the bats wake up.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:08 PM

Is there ever a bad time to see those things?

K by Reyes and weak grounder from Castillo. Picking up where they left off yesterday. And the day before.

Gary telling us SNY viewers that Giles' double would've been a homer in "any other park in the league."

Yeah it was hit deep, and yeah, I know Petco's a big park, but the double landed just in front of the warning track. It wouldn't have been high enough to go out in many places, and not deep enough in some, either. I can think of several off the top of my head: Miami, Yankee Stadium, Comerica.

I know the default setting is to constantly remind us about how big Petco is every time we're here but now in game 3 of the series, we can give it a rest, thanks.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:26 PM

First and third no out. Tatis grounds to third, and the Pads get Bell Tran in a rundown. But Barrett holds it too long and Beltran dives under. Bases juiced.

TheOldMole

Beltran eluded rundown! Bases loaded!

That ball would've been in the second deck in Miami, no?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:29 PM

Keith showing his age making fun of a dude's haircut.

Back in the game, Huber throws the ball about halfway up the first base line trying to throw out Beltran tagging from third. Ball squirts threw the catcher's legs and Delgado and Tatis move up.

Huber shouldn't have even thrown it home.

TheOldMole
Jun 07 2008 08:29 PM

Pods considering throwing this one away? Two super-bad defensive plays in one inning.

TheOldMole
Jun 07 2008 08:30 PM

And Perez with the chance to break it open.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:31 PM

Perez is a decent hitting pitcher isn't he?

I don't know why they walked Schneider there.

Wouldn't you rather pitch to Schneider and Ollie than Ollie and Reyes?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:34 PM

During a replay of the rundown on Beltran there was a great shot of the crowd going nuts when he was called safe.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:36 PM

That foul ball was a shot. It used to be Perez got in trouble with walks. He's getting lit today like his last game. I'm nervous.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:39 PM

They just showed Perez is at 6.45 walks per nine. Wow.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:46 PM

Beltran is hitting the ball hard these days.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:46 PM

Just heard that Wright has played every inning of every game this year. Hmmm. Good thing he's a handsome young stud.

metirish
Jun 07 2008 08:48 PM

Only player in the NL to have done that , I think.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 08:49 PM

Delgado hitting shots there too. With two outs and the weak hitters coming up don't you send Wright there?

Fman99
Jun 07 2008 08:50 PM

Only player in all of MLB.

Delgado lines it into the corner but Alomar inexplicably holds Wright at 3rd.

No, I'd rather pitch to the pitcher with one out and Reyes with --- hopefully --- two out. Rather that than Scneider with one out and no force at second, and Ollie with --- less hopefully ---- two out.

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 08:51 PM

I like Tatis on this team.

But not this much Tatis.

Still, go get him, Fernando.

When I'm on, and I got my stuff
I just can't be hit.
When I'm right, I just might
make hitters look like shit.

But then I get wild,
while fans blister in the sun.
Then I get wild,
watching me sure ain't no fun

Elster88

By the way Tatis sucks.

Dang.

Tatis badly fooled, 5 LOB in the last two innings. The funk continues.

Hey, we scored our nightly run. Deal with it.

metsguyinmichigan

I can't believe that we can't score than a run a night on these guys.

themetfairy
Jun 07 2008 09:07 PM

Gary keeps harping on the fact that Ollie looks better than he did in his last outing.

It would have been embarrassingly hard for him to have looked worse.

Fman99
Jun 07 2008 09:09 PM

I wish they would mention how Gonzales is leading the NL in RBIs even though the Padres are last in the league in runs scored. I keep forgetting that fact.

:rolling eyes:

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 09:11 PM

I can't remember Perez ever pitching with so much shit in his mouth.

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 09:14 PM

Tony Gwynn needs a media guide. He's saying that the Mets picked up Perez after he'd been released by the Pirates.

themetfairy

Whew! Now it's the Padres' turn to leave three on base!

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 09:17 PM

Strange, but he seemed in control that whole time.

I realize I'm looking for too much here, but doesn't it seem like he's landing on balance for the first time in forever?

Frayed Knot
Jun 07 2008 09:22 PM

Really smacked the shit outta that double huh?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 09:25 PM

Seriously though was anyone thinking we could get hits off Cha Seung Beak? The man is a beast.

Frayed Knot
Jun 07 2008 09:26 PM

23 innings, 3 runs.
And not exactly off a Cy Young staff either.

Surprinsingly, the Mets runs/game totals are above league average this season.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 09:32 PM

Let's face it the line-up the Mets are trotting out there these days is one of the weaker in the league. Well it has to be anyway, not that I'm taking a sampling in the league in my mind or anything.

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 07 2008 09:40 PM

Delgado heating up a little?

Elster88

Jun 07 2008 09:54 PM

I don't think I liked it.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 09:58 PM

Hindsight or foresight? Which of our stud pinch hitters should've been used?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:00 PM

Good play on both ends there. Except for Delgado almost spiking the throw. And struggling to get it out of his glove. Actually on the replay the throw wasn't terrible.

If he's not the options are limited. It seems that he's not from the concussion thread.

On the other hand how many more chances are we going to get?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:07 PM

"When Reyes has a bad game, the Mets have a bad game."

Not that the quality of the pitcher would influence both.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:07 PM

How many years has Reyes been playing now? I don't think he's going to change his swing. And it depresses me.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:23 PM

Gary confirms Church is unavailable today or tomorrow.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:24 PM

Did everyone get disgusted and leave?

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 10:34 PM

Reyes swing isn't the problem here.

If it wasn't the Mets vs. a big-time losing team, I'd say this has been a pretty good game.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2008 10:35 PM

Too many late night games in a row.

Sanchez was great striking out Kouzmanoff, and Beltran made another good catch look routine to end the inning.

I'm all for the good-time old-fashioned pitcher's duels too, but perhaps not right after the Mets offense took the past 2 games off.

That's dismissive. It is a problem. My post was a response to Keef saying Jose should do such-and-such with his swing.

Both of you are right in my book. Also, except for Heath Bell, the pitchers we have been facing suck. If we had Bell, Bannister, and Kazmir we'd never lose a game.

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 10:39 PM

Warm up Wagner, pppppppppleeeease!

Gwreck
Jun 07 2008 10:44 PM

You'd really bring Wagner in without a lead?

(I could see him being used after Sanchez, but no point in not giving Duaner the 9th, no?)

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:45 PM

Yah give him the ninth also because the bottom of the order is up. But maybe he was saying he wanted a lead for Billy?

AG/DC
Jun 07 2008 10:48 PM

No, I don't want to pull Sanchez before necesary, but neither do I want to play the game of waiting for a lead to use Wagner.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:48 PM

If you hit a ball in the air into right-center when it's Beltran and Endy, you may as well save your legs and immediately head to the bench.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2008 10:50 PM

SNY had Duaner's three fastballs to Gerut as 93, 93, 91. If that gun's not fast, it's a very encouraging sign.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:51 PM

Me like. The bulls are quite good.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 10:56 PM

Good at-bat by Castillo.

The game officially would've been won if Sandy had sent Wright on Delgado's double.

Elster88

Casanova back.

Gwreck
Jun 07 2008 11:06 PM

Was just thinking the same thing about the Met bench.

Yeah, there's 2 outs, but the go-ahead run is in scoring position. And there's Wright, Reyes, Schneider, Beltran, all with their heads down, looking dejected, in the dugout.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 11:07 PM

They may as well cut to commercial now and save some time. Also the Mets should just concede now. I am filled with self-loathing.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 11:17 PM

The only run we scored this game was because the Padres failed to execute a rundown.

So I'm still counting it as a total of 2 runs for the series so far.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 07 2008 11:17 PM

Well, that blows.

Someone needs to explain to Willie that he's allowed to use Wagner in situations other than for saves. Of course, if the offense would score more than a run a game, the pitchers wouldn't need to be perfect. The Padres tried to give this game to the Mets with some shoddy defensive play early in the game, but the Mets refused to take advantage of their host's generosity.

Nope, it was Sandy not sending Wright to score with 2 outs and a Pile of Steaming Crap hitting 6th through 8th in the lineup. (on Delgado's double).

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 11:19 PM

We got great starts out of Pelfrey, Santana and Perez in 3 games. That's the stuff that makes 8 game winning streaks for teams that can hit.

I'd call those 3 starts "good," "pretty good," and "ok" but agree that there's no excuse for not beating the Padres at least 1-2 times in these first 3 games.

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 11:32 PM

Well whatevs. Semantics. A good hitting team can still turn that into eight game winning streaks.

How good can a team be if they can get lose 3 games in a row to the Padres?

Elster88
Jun 07 2008 11:34 PM

I feel bad for the players/manager in spots like this. I can see why some guys flip out. What the hell can Willie say?

"We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting. We're not hitting."

"Our lineup is Tatis-Schneider-Chavez and a slowly dying Delgado. When at least two of Beltran, Wright, and Reyes don't hit we're fucked."

This is highly irregular. The BotG has been traditionally (for the last two games) been reserved for mangerial moves. Let's put it to a vote.

bmfc1
Jun 08 2008 07:15 AM

The last three nights, I've stayed up until 1 to watch our team. This is quite an accomplishment, as I get up at 4:45 during the week, but it's not as big an accomplishment as scoring a total of three runs in three games to a lousy team. I'm pissed off at myself for letting myself believe again after they won 7 of 10, but I'm more pissed off at the management of the team for letting things get this way.

I would feel sorry for the Wilpons--after all, they are the ones writing big checks for this lousy performance--but then I remember that they mishandled the WR situation on Memorial Day. They didn't fire him, they didn't give him a "vote of confidence", they just let him be. He sat Delgado for a day--wow, what balls!--and the press thought that Willie was going to manage by a new set of rules from now on. Instead, he's the same milquetoast personality who sends up Robinson Cancel, who hasn't had an AB in the majors since 1999, in a big spot when he has the decent Ramon Castro on the bench. And where was Willie when Santana got hit by a pitch but didn't get to take first base because the ump said that he offered at the pitch? How about showing some fire? Your team is sucking, your billion dollar pitcher gets hit, and you mildly argue? Are you kidding? Willie says that a big argument isn't his style but his style isn't winning enough games.

I would feel sorry for the Wilpons but they are the ones that brought us a GM who has done nothing this season to help the team. The Mets are supposed to WIN NOW and yet, in the last three days, we have seen Abraham Nunez, Robinson Cancel, and Raul Casanova come to bat in clutch situations. And Fernando Tatis, who wasn't even good enough to get a call up to the team last September, is almost a regular. Other teams make trades to help our team, our GM uses the unemployment line.

I would feel sorry for David Wright, Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes, who are better than the team, but where we they late in the game? Watching curves go by. but also sitting on the bench sulking. Stop crying, get up, and cheer on your teammates.

I feel sorry for all the Mets fans who were loud and proud in SD last night; I feel sorry for us for believing and not being rewarded. The rest of them can go to hell. At least until 4 PM today.
