Dodger Rookie Clayton Kershaw, who the Mets saw a few weeks ago, was still looking for his first career win when he went up against Greg Maddux, loooking for his 351st. That was the widest gap in career wins by opposing starters since August 27, 1965 when recent ex-Met Warren Spahn (361 wins) went up against Darrel Sutherland (one). Sutherland gave up three runs in six Spahn walked off with number 362.

Maddux, too, outpitched his rookie opponent, but walked off with bupkis because, naturally, he bailed after six innings and 70 pitches. And his bullpen coughed.

It's maddening. What exactly is he being saved for?

I looked at that box and smashed my head into the subway car pole realizing it eas the same Padre bullpen that kept us scoreless for 50 innings over the weekend.

Our team is dead-diddily-ead.

Crazy , it seems every game I read about Maddux is 5/6 innings with less than ninety pitches , sometimes a lot less.

I feel the same way. And it sucks that we're already at this point in mid-June.

Other out of town news:

Glavine is joining Smoltz on the DL - "strained elbow" this time.
Not sure what the time frame is, but all three of the 1990s Atlanta crew could be done at the end of this season. Would make for a nice weekend in Cooperstown for tomahawk choppers in July 2014.

In Dodger land, Furcal to be out several more weeks so, with Nomar set to return, they're going to try him at SS for the first time in years.

Tigers lose Jeremy Bonderman for the season with blood-clot related problems. This is in addition to Dontrelle's forced march to Florida for remedial pitching lessons.
Couple of years ago you couldn't have touched either guy without emptying your entire farm system. Now they're both more baggage than weapons.

Albert of Pujols injured last night too. Calf.
