IGT, 6/12, The first game of the rest of our lives
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 10:10 AM |
Let's steamroll.
bmfc1 Jun 12 2008 10:20 AM |
Thanks for the nod, but it's according to John Delcos:
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 10:26 AM |
Oh, you thought that was you, bmfc1? No, that was another source of mine named "bfmc."
metirish Jun 12 2008 10:31 AM |

From the blog linked above.
Farmer Ted Jun 12 2008 10:38 AM |
WTF? Alou plays one game and he's shelved again?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 10:40 AM |
That's incorrect: He only played half a game.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 10:45 AM |
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I beliive he's extending a career DL record.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 11:19 AM |
And... we're under way.
Centerfield Jun 12 2008 11:31 AM |
Not a very intimidating lineup the Mets are running out there these days.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 11:33 AM |
A hit and two lineouts in the first inning. We'll see where that gets us.
Gwreck Jun 12 2008 11:41 AM |
I like Johan striking out the side in the 2nd.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 11:42 AM |
Wow. Santana strikes out the side in the second. (And had two in the first.)

To steal from, um, I mean to quote from Greg's column yesterday -
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 11:46 AM |
I guess that means that Alou will go on the DL about 11 days from now.
Frayed Knot Jun 12 2008 11:47 AM |
Castro says: 'Welcome to the house, Haren'

G-Fafif Jun 12 2008 11:53 AM |
Ramon loves Eastern Time.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 11:53 AM |
Yeah, he revolted against that 94-MPH fastball.
G-Fafif Jun 12 2008 11:54 AM |
Ralph and Ron arguing (actually mildly contentious) over Willie removing Pelfrey in the ninth last night. Nice when Kiner is treated like one of the guys.
bmfc1 Jun 12 2008 11:56 AM |
Admit it: you were sitting there, waiting and hoping to use that line.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 12:00 PM |
Who took which position? Me, I would have kept Pelfrey in until there was one more baserunner.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 12:04 PM |
A well-rested David Wright slides into third safely. But we don't have that guy.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 12:16 PM |
Radio guys were saying that not only should Upton have caught Wright's hit, but Wright shoulda been on 3rd but coasted. Laziness all around. Let's thank Orlando Hudson for returning an idiotic favor.
metirish Jun 12 2008 12:18 PM |
Wright never coasted like that when Floyd was here.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 12:20 PM |
I'm going to guess David doesn't get pulled for a failure to hustle.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 12:27 PM |
Santana's thrown 72 pitches through four.
G-Fafif Jun 12 2008 12:27 PM |
Ralph didn't want him taken out. Ron thought with a losing streak in progress you go to your closer. Ralph brought up Warren Spahn. You can't argue with Warren Spahn.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 12:28 PM |
G-Fafif Jun 12 2008 12:29 PM |
Ralph now giving advice on how to steal signs at second and transmit them to the batter (it's all in how you step off the bag).
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 12:32 PM |
What is up with Tatis? As m y cousin Vinny would say, "I got no more use for this guy."
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 12:42 PM |
Two out and two on and you're not excited to see him come up, huh?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 12:51 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jun 12 2008 12:51 PM |
I guess what I don;t get is why Tatis today when Aguila hasta be the better fielder and Santana such a flyballer. Plus, everyone loves Aguila and hates Tatis (today).
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 12:51 PM |
Santana through 6: 96 pitches, 9 strikeouts, 2 walks, 2 hits.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 12:52 PM |
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Tatis should only play left field in an emergency. Treat him like he's Rusty Staub in 1985.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 12:54 PM |
Or like he's Dave Kingman in... well, any year after 1975, I guess.
Gwreck Jun 12 2008 01:02 PM |
Time for Santana to bear down and get this last out...
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 01:03 PM |
Mitsubishi Montero displeasing me.

Favorite yearbook page of all-time: 1976 Kingman picture with cutouts of boxscores demonstrating his versatility: He plays left! He plays first! He plays third! Rusty treatment for Tatis crossed my mind last week. Nothing's too crazy if it helps win a game.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 01:04 PM |
HE STRUCK HIM OUT!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 01:05 PM |
They PHed Owings. Geez.
AG/DC Jun 12 2008 01:08 PM |
At least he didn't bunt.

Aguila hits for Santana. (Pssst, Willie: Keep in him the game in left field! Late inning defense! Do it!)
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 01:18 PM |
He strikes out, Jose doubles, and Endy has two "ribeye steaks" in scoring position with one out.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 01:20 PM |
My gamecast is stuck on ball 1 to Tatis.
holychicken Jun 12 2008 01:21 PM |
Scoring? Past the 6th inning? Against a BP? I don't believe it.

A double-switch which actually brings the pitcher's spot up a bit earlier -- but that's of little concern right now.

bmfc1 Jun 12 2008 01:40 PM |
Wow. After a great run, the BP has become a problem (thank you, Captain Obvious).
metirish Jun 12 2008 01:41 PM |
What happened ?
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 01:42 PM |
Looks like Mark F.U. Reynolds tripled home two runs, that's what.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 01:42 PM |
- J. Smith relieved J. Santana - C. Aguila in left field - C. Young grounded out to shortstop - A. Ojeda walked - O. Hudson grounded into fielder's choice, A. Ojeda out at second - C. Jackson singled to right, O. Hudson to second - M. Reynolds tripled to deep center, O. Hudson and C. Jackson scored - J. Upton walked
Frayed Knot Jun 12 2008 01:43 PM |
I suspect the crowd blasting Willie for using Heilman rather than Smith last week (back during Heilman's last bad outing) will suddenly lose their memory over this one.
metirish Jun 12 2008 01:43 PM |
Thanks lads , shit is what happened.

If it doesn't get done before him, Wright better get it done.
Frayed Knot Jun 12 2008 02:24 PM |
Well, he went with the Chavez sac bunt.
Benjamin Grimm Jun 12 2008 02:27 PM |

True. This is the kind of situation where playing for one run isn't so bad. Still don't like giving up the out, though.

Had runners on in the 8th (loaded - 1 out), in the 9th (loaded - 2 outs), and in the 10th (1st - 1 out) and scored NONE of them.
batmagadanleadoff Jun 12 2008 02:55 PM |
All they hadda do to win today was to put it in their blueprint to win this game. Then, the D-Backs wouldn'ta had any other choice but to lose this game, what with it being ordained in the blueprint and all. This team can't even make a proper blueprint. I blame Willie.

Worst game of the year.
Vic Sage Jun 12 2008 03:35 PM |
who, exactly, could they trade for prospects?
bmfc1 Jun 12 2008 03:38 PM |
Billy Wagner, whatever you say about him, is tougher than most of the ballplayers. He has a weekly (paid) interview on ESPN radio in NY and he's there now. He could have made something up but he didn't. He also said that if he does his job, the team is doing OK--"I'm not doing my job."
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 03:44 PM |
So he has a better brand image than Benitez.
G-Fafif Jun 12 2008 03:56 PM |
I've noticed a couple of times that as soon as the SNYcast is thrown to Matt Yallof, after a horrendous loss, he makes a big point that Heilman or Wagner (those two in particular) is a good guy who we know will be at his locker answering whatever is asked of him.
holychicken Jun 12 2008 03:59 PM |
BAH! Stop raining on my parade of hate!
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 05:24 PM |

I in fact blame Matt Yallof for everything. He's the cheerleader disguised as a journalist who goosed everyone's expectations.
Nymr83 Jun 12 2008 05:56 PM |
screw that, you're not tough for showing up to a PAID interview. go on, for free, with evan and joe or mike and the mad dog tommorow.
bmfc1 Jun 12 2008 05:57 PM |

I guess we are the laughingstock of MLB...The Mets have been perrenial losers since the beginning with several extreme highs.
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 12 2008 08:50 PM |
We won't be that lucky. I'm totally unfair to Wags but he was never my favorite guy. My complaint about is part about him being a loudmouth with a history of wearing out his welcomes; and part with the Mets for having solved the "closer problem" they had so lazily and uncreatively: They simply threw the most money at the biggest name, and that happened to be Wagner. And while he brings obvious talent to the mix, the main argument for bringing him in was to take everyone off the hook, allowing the org to throw up their hands and say "What?!? We did the best we could!" when he falters like all closers eventually do. They didn't want the pressure of a "quarterback controversy." They didn't have the courage to give the job to a guy like Heilman. They could have learned from the Looper years that any dude with a decent arm could save 40 games -- as long as he was healthy. They didn't. Of course to get Wagner they not only gave too much $$ but way too much security, basically giving him carte blanche to act like a jackass when it suits him, get the manager fired if he doesn't like him, "courage" to stand up before reporters and blow them away with his humility when he screws up, and a forum to polish his public brand image which he knows will come in handy when those writers consider him on their HOF ballots.
