I was late.

Mets already trail 1-0, which may be a good sign.

That was an awesome home run by Hamilton , a flick of the wrists like Ron said and it was in the picnic area, reminded me of a Mo Vaughn homer.

Best. Interleague thread title. Ever.

Damn, Milton "Dinosaurs" Bradley is hitting .333 and 14 home runs already.

How is Marlon Anderson still a part of the team much less batting 6th in our lineup?

the dude has 9 hits all season...

Perez: I was sent by my government to strike out German Duran

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 06:35 PM

This Texas team is definitely bad defensively.

That first-inning single by Beltran made me think that high ERA isn't all the pitchers' fault.

Even worse for the Mets, Alou has all of 17 hits for the season. He was supposed to fill the #5 or #6 slot in the order for the season. Hell, I could have sat on the DL collecting paychecks, for a small fraction of what Alou costs.

Jun 13 2008 06:42 PM

Feldman gets nothing past anybody, does he?

(As I type, he gets his first career hit.)

These are desperate times, so desperate measures are called for. I have decided to drink a different beer for each inning of this game in hopes that it will shake the Mets from their funk. If not, I figure I won't be as upset at the end of the game.

Thus far my experiment has gone as follows:
1st inning - Tecate
2nd inning - Miller Lite (i know it hardly ranks as a beer, but i need 9)
3rd inning - Saranac India Pale Ale
4th inning - Saranac Pale Ale
5th inning - Saranac Adirondack Lager

Let it not be said that I was not willing to do my part for the tweams cause.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 06:48 PM

I gotta pee just having read your post.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 06:51 PM

Oliver is in deep trouble, two out and three on.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 13 2008 06:52 PM

Come on Mets, I need some long innings, but this isn't exactly what I had in mind.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 06:55 PM

Gilbert asks: The last time the Rangers played at Shea (July, 1975), they had a complete game shutout. Who was the pitcher?

There's that Texas defense.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 13 2008 06:56 PM

Perez tells Murphy to grab some pine as he strikes him out on three pitches.

Alright team, 3 or 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th would be greatly appreciated.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 06:59 PM

There's Anderson.

4-1 Mets.

Just keep the pen away and we'll be fine....

I'm not sure Anderson would see it that way.

But he probably hasn't had quite so many beers this evening.

Metfairy - 4-1 Mets.

Just keep the pen away and we'll be fine....

I saw the original score you posted. I liked it better, but i can live with the present score.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 07:09 PM

Let's beat the arms off of this shallow pen in game one.

That's Oliver Perez tripling his RBI total.

Tack-on runs rool.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 13 2008 07:13 PM

Me - "Alright team, 3 or 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th would be greatly appreciated.

The Mets tack on 4 runs in the 6th inning. Apparently, we just haven't asked nicely in the past.

6th inning - Saranac Brown Ale - It was a good beer and a great inning.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 07:21 PM

Marlon Byrd is still in baseball? How about that?

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 07:22 PM

By the way, I'm sure my memory is failing me, but I can't recall Ron or Gary mentioning Willie's name this evening once, nor any shots that the director has cut to.

Jun 13 2008 07:25 PM

AG/DC - Gilbert asks: The last time the Rangers played at Shea (July, 1975), they had a complete game shutout. Who was the pitcher?

I wanted to guess Nolan Rayan, but I think he may have still been with the California/Anaheim/Los Angeles/ whatever Angels, so i'll guess Fergie Jenkins. You can't go wrong with a Hall of Famer, can you?

Fman99
Jun 13 2008 07:27 PM

Rangers' Chris Shelton looks like an adult version of Malachai from "Children of the Corn." Which is not a good look.

I will guess another HoF pitcher, Gaylord Perry. I know he spent some of the 1970s in Texas also.

nature of the job, when you lose, everyone's talkin bad. when you win, you're irrelevant.

I'm not drunk, but I'm working on it.

7th inning - Saranac Black Forest

Perez with 7 strong innings and 2 rbi to help his cause, can the shitpen hold it?

Frayed Knot
Jun 13 2008 07:50 PM

Sounds like R-Doc picked up a Saranac variety 12-packs whilst he was up north.

6 run lead heading for the 9th ... the Rangers got us just where they want us.

themetfairy
Jun 13 2008 07:54 PM

It's the 9th inning.

They have us where they want us....

Rockin' Doc
Jun 13 2008 07:57 PM

8th inning - Saranac Black and Tan - Just a Saranac variety 6 pack at the local Harris Teeter grocery store on the way home from work.

9th inning - Newcastle Brown Ale - A victory celebration beer. Please let that be the case. We can't possibly blow this one, can we?

Duaner gets his ERA down to 5.06.

Hopefully, it's one the pen can build on.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 13 2008 08:10 PM

I'm glad to have done my part for the good of the team, but they must learn to win on their own because I can't do this every game.

Okay, that's one win. Now all we need is four or five more to get this team on track and to change my crappy outlook.

Yay Mets! Yay, beer!!

Jun 13 2008 09:38 PM

I figured that tonight the trick is to think about what it was like to go to the game in the early 90s and early '00s, and hope for something well-pitched and a good game, without worrying about where you were in the standings, because, well, you weren't anywhere worth being concerned about.

And in that regard, was a fun game. Sedate crowd, would've expected more booing but I guess a solid outing by the good Oliver Perez does that.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 13 2008 09:41 PM

As much as they make me want to go the games with a gun, I was very impressed with how they determinedly ground out those runs in the first inning. That's twice in the last few days where Beltran got a 2-out RBI single, then came around to score himself. That's hard to do.

I'm more impressed with Rockindoc's drinking, but still.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 09:51 PM

I still think any secondbaseman in the NL East --- ok, maybe not Uggla --- gobbles that single up.

AG/DC
Jun 13 2008 10:04 PM

I just reviewed that, and I'm thinking of another single. Beltran's hit was solid.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 13 2008 10:04 PM

Yeah but they didn;t. Most teams wouldn't have played infield in before them to snare Wright's liner. It all comes out in the wash.

Glad for Rockin' Doc this one didn't go extras.

Cheers, boys. And girls.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 14 2008 05:42 AM

Seo - "Glad for Rockin' Doc this one didn't go extras."

That makes two of us. Last night's beer an inning was an act of stupid, desperation that will not be done a second time. Last night was the best night of sleep I have had in a while.

Morning after, I'm back to the same old grind, coffee. With coffee in hand, I'm ready to take on the day.

Hey Rockin Doc, is Harris Teeter a real name or a drunken typo?

Rockin' Doc
Jun 14 2008 10:39 AM

cooby, Harris Teeter is an upscale grocery chain in the southeast. Nice, clean, well stocked stores.

As for my typing, well I did have to type extra slow (even by my standards) the last 2-3 innings. All in all, I held together in pretty good shape through the game, it was afterwards when the alcohol started to hit me. I just went upstairs, went to bed and got a great night of sleep.

You can wear the Bernie Williams shirt for luck in today's game. I'm going to be a slacker and simply cheer for the team like any sane fan would.
