Song That Mentions The Mets

Pat Monahan (not to be confused w/the late Senator from New York), "Her Eyes"--the Mets are mentioned among many other references (Met unis are seen in the video):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpT8-J3xGMc

She's not afraid; she just likes to use her night light
When she gets paid, true religion gets it all
If they fit right.

She's a little bit manic, completely organic
Doesn't panic for the most part.

She's old enough to know, and young enough not to say no
To any chance that she gets for home plate tickets to see the Mets.
Like everybody, she's in over her head,
Dreads Feds, Grateful Dead, and doesn't take meds.

She's a Gemini Capricorn
Thinks all men are addicted to porn.
I don't agree with her half the time,
But, damn I'm glad she's mine.

Her eyes, that's where hope lies.
That's where blue skies
Meet the sunrise.
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home.

She got the kinda strength that every man wishes he had.
She loved Michael Jackson up until he made Bad.

Tells me that she lives about a hundred lives,
Scares me to death when she thinks and drives,
Says cowboy hats make her look fat,
and I'm so glad she's mine.

Her eyes, that's where hope lies.
That's where blue skies
Meet the sunrise.
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home.

She doesn't know the word 'impossible'
Don't care where I've been and doesn't care where we're goin' to.
She takes me as I am, and that ain't easy.
She's beautiful. So beautiful.

And sometimes I think she's truly crazy.
And I love it.

Her eyes, that's where hope lies.
That's where blue skies
Always meet the sunrise.
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home.

Her eyes, that's where hope lies.
That's where blue skies
Always meet the sunrise.
Her eyes, that's where I go
When I go home.

She's not afraid
she just likes to use her night light.

I dated that chick for a while. Bat shit crazy, but firecracker in the sack. Miss her like crazy and glad she's gone all at the same time.

Also "All Things Considered" by the Bosstones, about a delusional old man:

There is this older guy
That comes around from time to time
We're sure that he fought in the war
The war in Vietnam
Most of what he tells us
No one's verified
He swears that he was there
The day that Brendan Behan died
He also claims he trained
A kid named Cassius Clay
And cost Goldwater the election
On election day
If he was still with us today
Then he would introduce
Us to his closest friend
The one and only Lenny Bruce

The truth is what he's been through
And what he's had to do
What he's seen, and what he's done
All things considered
What he's telling us
Isn't hurting anyone

We knew it's true
He's short a few
Check out the deck, it's light
Said he wrote the entire soundtrack
For A Hard Day's Night
On Peyton Place
Played second base
He says but he regrets
The stadium was Shea
The team the New York Mets

The truth is what he's been through
And what he's had to do
What he's seen, and what he's done
All things considered
What he's telling us
Isn't hurting anyone

All things considered
He's not bitter
He's not mean
No, he's not done
All things considered
What he's telling us
Isn't hurting anyone

There is this older guy
That comes around from time to time
We're sure that he fought in the war
The war in Vietnam
Most of what he tells us
No one's verified
He swears he was there
The day that Brendan Behan died

The truth is what he's been through
And what he's had to do
What he's seen, and what he's done
All things considered
What he's telling us
Isn't hurting anyone

All things considered
He's not bitter
He's not mean
No, he's not done
All things considered
What he's telling us
Isn't hurting anyone

Every now and then
We hear our song

From Adam Sandler's Turkey Song

"I can't believe the Mets traded Darryl Strawberry"

Off topic, but anyone get slightly bothered when songs (and other forms of entertainment) get the "facts" wrong for the sake of whatever? And here its for the sake of making a line work and rhyme.

Though "I can't believe the Mets got rid of Darryl Strawberry" would have fit better than "traded" as I'd love to know who we got for Straw! (No, the compensetory pick that became Bobby Jones doesn't count)

It's far down the list of what is bothersome about Adam Sandler.

HA! I meant in general rather than specific.

Another example, one episode of Cheers revolved around a random vintage Red Sox game that Sam Malone pitched in would be broadcast that day and the gang wanted to watch it in the bar. The listings actually said "Sam Malone, relief pitcher."

Huh, what TV listing (especially in the late 80s or early 90s) would ever give you a complete box score or run down of who played in a ball game like that?

If I have an emotional stake in the thing, it's more nettlesome.

In Bad News Bears in Breaking Training, Kelly Leak somehow gets up four times in four innings, despite his team not exactly rallying through the lineup. More importantly, the orignal Bad News Bears features Stein coming up between Leak and Engleberg. Whay would Buttermaker set his lineup with scrubs in between his best hitters? Also, when Amanda is unavailable, he turns back to Stein to pitch. Why not pitch Kelly, whose arm is what originally got him noticed? (I guess I have a lot of Stein-based questions.) In fact, what Little League team ever used their best athlete in the outfield?

These are real issues. Cheers, not so much.

Wow, you might as well criticize Tim Robbins aka Nuke LaLoosh for throwing like a palsied child and at the same time being a character who is a "prospect."

Because opposing teams, except when Amanda pitched, were hitting rockets to the outfield. He needed to be out there to track down all those balls. And did anybody other than Rudy Stein or Amanda ever pitch? I'd love to get a look at the books Oglethorpe kept.

Oh, I do. I used that film as a jumping off point for a thread about good baseball films that at times show a poor understanding of baseball.

Not so much as BNB, though, because I don't think BD is an otherwise great film, like BNB.

"Skypager" by A Tribe Called Quest

"If you get your high, then mine is next
The 'S' in skypager really stands for sex
Beeper's goin off like Don Trump gets checks
Keep my bases loaded like the New York Mets"

I like the Tribe, but this is a stupid song, tho.
