Jerry Manuel dares to innovate! Four outfielders! Nobody at second base!

Nymr83
Jun 22 2008 01:24 PM

ball 4 is a wild pitch but Baker is thrown out trying to come home.... very dumb move by Baker and it could have saved Pelfrey.

Nymr83
Jun 22 2008 01:26 PM

Pelfrey strikes out Atkins to retire the Rockies and strand two!

TransMonk

Pelfrey skates through the first.

Manuel obviously doesn't read the Cranepool yet.

if he's smart he'll avoid internet forums entirely

That was a bomb.

Pelf with a nice 3rd, mowing down the top of the order.

Elster88
Jun 22 2008 02:00 PM

This Pelfrey guy might be pretty good.

Some notes from John Delcos:

Notebook: Ryan Church to take BP tomorrow at Shea. … Luis Castillo day-to-day with strained left thigh. … Jerry Manuel said he MUST plan not to have Moises Alou again this season. … Brian Schneider is day-to-day with a bruised left pinkie. He said he hopes to play tomorrow.

It's maddening what people find blog-worthy. Is he even in Denver? Any of us
could have listened to the radio or watched the tv and blogged that non-info.

KC: I hope that you're not referring to me for cutting and pasting something that I thought might provoke chat. Delcos is in the press box for a NJ paper chatting live with fans. He does a great job.

I thought that was a slow-motion replay of Hawpe. Nope, it was the real thing.

The Angels, the same Angels that the Mets beat 2 of 3 in the Angels home park, just finished a three game sweep of the Phillies in Philly.

Interesting bottom of the 9th: F-Rod got the first two outs, then Feliz got on, was PR for by Bruntlett w/Rollins up, Bruntlett stole 2d, Scoscia walked Rollins (there was a 2-1 count) even though that meant putting on the winning run, then Taguchi fouled out to end it.

I know who he is, and I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to him. It's
bad enough (to me) that these guys regurgitate stuff in their columns and
beat reports that is always widely reported elsewhere but NOW they blog it
like it's cutting edge.

When Gary Cohen says, "John Delcos just reported on his blog ...." then
maybe I'll change my tune but until then, ug.

Thanks KC and Steve (too touchy on my part)--really, Westchester? I only know his work from that page. I like that he chats with fans during the game.

It says on the top of the page New York's Lower Hudson Valley.

It's part of the Gannett Empire.

Good point Kase. Its one thing when you have a column to fill on a daily basis, do you HAVE to update a blog frequently if its just for filler info?

I'd wager no, not really.

Pelfrey throwing lotsa balls. Maybe get him out after this inning.

KC
Jun 22 2008 02:46 PM

Yeah, back to IGT ... Joe Smith coming in to get the last out of the sixth
with guys on first and second and two outs.

Nymr83
Jun 22 2008 02:47 PM

or get him out during this inning.

Pelfrey done without allowing a run after 5 2/3, he walked 5.

runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs for joe smith.

Zvon
Jun 22 2008 02:49 PM

Two 6 inning walks seals his fate.

Manuel pulls Pelf.

Very nice outting.

Did Pelfrey stop wearing the mouth piece or did he just get a better fitting one?

I haven't seen it since he started getting better.

Joe Smith has now stranded 26 out of 29 inherited runners.

Jun 22 2008 03:03 PM

Ugh.

He just looked down and decided that was a good time to adjust his pants.

How often does bunting for a hit actually work? Thanks for the out, Mr. Taveras. Your team now has 8 left.

That at-bat by Holliday was the hump and we are over it.

GJ by Smith.

Wright with the flip down sunglasses!
I love it.

How long will it take these kids playing today to realize those sunglasses are the ONLY type to use on the field?
They have these $300 sunglasses on the brim of their hats. What good are they doing there?

You can wear your fancy ones after the game.
Baseball isn't a fashion show.

Wags on to close it out, if ever this season we don't need no drama coming
home, it's now. 3 quick outs and then we can all hit the grill or whatever.

Let's beat the M's tomorrow.

lets SWEEP the Mariners and convince them that their season is over so they might as well leave Raul Ibanez behind when they leave NY on thursday.

I believe that I read somewhere that he used to tip his pitches with his tongue so he got the mouthpiece to stop that. Then somehow they think he was tipping them with the mouthpiece so they 86'd that.

I guess maybe they finally got him to control his tongue?

Adam Dunn - who's defensively challenged enough - had his on his hat in yesterday's game
in the Bronx. So as a fly is hit to him he decides that now is the time to put them on his eyes
and almost manages to poke his orbs out in the process.
He winds up catching the ball in his glove while the specs are in his bare hand and then proceeds
to put the stem in his mouth in order to throw the ball back in.
Fortunately for him no runners were on base at the time.
