Party Lines That, at the End of the Day, Weren't Worth Much

Willie's a Winner. He knows how to win.

Franco's a great teammate. He makes the other guys better with his attitude and example.

Wait until you guys see Bill Pecota. (OK, that wasn't repeated enough to be a party line, but, still.)

What was it that Fred Wilpon said about Art Howe? Something about how he lit up a room?

'Don't worry I've had a vasectomy'

Oh, you mean as they relate to the Mets?

Never mind.

Funny, but let's try to stay away from one-time calling second-hand attributions party lines.

I mean, the Pecota thing came at his opening press con, didn't it?

"This year I feel completely different" Robin Ventura in 2001 hoping to bounce back after an injury-plagued 2000.

"This year my back feels completely different" Edgardo Alfonzo in 2002 hoping to bounce back after an injury plagued 2001.

"Delgado is in the best shape of his life" - Party line in Spring, 2008.

Well, that was worth something. I mean, they didn't go out and sign him anyway.

Thats pretty much the party line for anyone coming over from an organization with a recent run of championships or postseason success.

"(insert Met prospect name) is the best Met prospect since (either Seaver or Gooden for pitchers or Strawberry for hitters)"

Takin' that Duquette plan and runnin' with it, September 30, 2004:

]"My plan here is to continue with the plan that's in place," Minaya said. "And if I'm not mistaken, the plan that's in place is based on pitching, defense and athleticism. They have a plan here and I want to work with that plan, because at the end of the day I want to win. It's the dream of this New York kid to win a World Series here and have a parade down Broadway. That's my dream."

In the Minaya/Duquette remake of "The Team Is Mine," Omar was clearly Michael to Jim's Paul: "You keep dreaming."
