I can't stand the sight of the guy as much as the next anti-Yank fan, but if

he IS overrated though. he gets talked about as if he was one of the top players in the game and he's just not.

Yeah but Jeter has things that simple stats can't measure , like herpes.
|
G-Fafif Jun 20 2008 02:43 PM |
Great. He'll take it out on us next week.

This was a player poll (about 2/3 responding) so they're reacting to perceived publicity of what theose NYC & Boston players get over and above what they think is accorded similar players in smaller markets.

/Jeter looks around the forum; changes everyone's mind with his calming eyes.

It's not so much that he is over-rated than he is "over-beatified".

Derek Jeter is Paul Molitor if Moly played his most of his career in a big market, and on a successful team for a more prolonged period of time, and wasn't often injured (which probably was a big factor in the decline of Harvey's Wall Bangers).

I think Derek Jeter is W.C. Fields, if he didn't drink, wasn't fat, and played baseball.

Fucking brilliant.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was beginning to think Jeter was a young Chuck Norris. Later
|
SteveJRogers Jun 21 2008 12:39 PM |
HA! Yeah, yeah, I was just going to only go with the market size and the fact that for a good chunk of Molitor's career with the Brewers they weren't anywhere near what they were during that small couple of years run during the early 1980s.

It's hard to take a list seriously when it lists ARod as an overrated player.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jun 22 2008 02:29 PM |
Some people may (erroneously) define "overrated" as "people I'm sick of hearing about."
|
Nymr83 Jun 22 2008 02:49 PM |
yeah, in order for arod to be "overrated" people would have to go around talking about him like he's a better hitter than Ruth, Williams, and Bonds... i havent heard much of that.
|
Elster88 Jun 22 2008 03:00 PM |
Which wouldn't be overstating it as incredibly as it sounds.
|
AG/DC Jun 22 2008 06:47 PM |
I guess we are hearing that.
|
metsmarathon Jun 22 2008 09:53 PM |
my question... how exactly is barry zito overrated? like, who's tooting his horn nowadays? or is his awfulness overrated, and the voters are savvy enough to pick up on it?
