FireFox 3

I remember when version 2 came out and IIRC KC posted about it here . At the time I had never seen it and remember wondering what all the fuss was about. Downloaded 2 at the time and haven't stop using it since.

Firefox 3 is available today for download , looks good to me.

I love it so far.

I downloaded it this morning. Then later in the day I saw a lot of web chatter that people were waiting for the new download to be released. So am I on the cutting edge and just way ahead of everyone? If not, what did I download this morning? It's certainly different than what I had before.

According to the help link on my tool bar, I have Firefox version 3.0.

One thing I love is that the cryptogram site I love was never fully functional on Firefox 2.0, but it works perfectly on the new browser.

Ditto. All these supposedly tech-savvy people were trying to download it at noon when I already had it a 8 am. That's just weird.

One had to scroll down to get the link to download it in English, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

BTW, here's a screencast about Firefox 3's new features.

I believe it was available as early as last week but not officially until Tuesday , also there was an online campaign to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for times downloaded in a day , that was going on Monday.

Your good Willets with what you got.

More importantly, Opera 9.5 is available. That's the browser Firefox steals all their best ideas from.

I got the 3 Beta, but I lost my New York Mets gizmo.

So far I'm loving Firefox 3's functionality. I enjoy how it gives me so many options once I start typing a site name or URL into the box.

I meant to mention the loss of the Mets menu thing.

Anyone re-download it and get it to work in 3? Anyone have that link?

It's not supported by 3. Neither is the ability to have a new tab open in your homepage, which I also find annoying. Otherwise, good stuff.

Shit keeps crashing on me and lots of other peeps, too, apparently.

No one has a solution I've found that works.

Trying Opera.

I'm not all that impressed. Is still the better browser overall; the improvements are all better handled in Opera, and it has many more features that are far more advanced than Firefox.

Opera is basically what Firefox 4 should be.

One of the things I love about FF are the plugins, adblock plus being my favorite. Do you know if there's a similar bunch of plugins offered for Opera? I found a few, but very basic ones.

Don't know if anyone's had problems with FF3 like me, but I got it to finally work again by nuking my old profile and creating a new one. Kind of a pain in the arse after all the uninstalling/reinstalling, getting rid of plugins, add-ons, all that shit.

By the by, Opera 9.52 is fucking awesome.

I've not had any problems with FF3 , you have that and Opera , what in your opinion is so good about Opera , I have never seen it .

I miss the Firefox plugins, specifically AdBlockPlus. I'm feeling the brand new Opera is faster than FF3, but damn, I miss Firefox. Hopefully it stays stable for me.

Opera's super fast for one, but it uses that "Ask" technology, so when you mouse over one of your tabs, it pops up a mini version of the site to show you what's under that tab. Kinda cool.

They have a thing they call Speed Dial, which you can make your home page, and it displays a grid of your top 9 websites using, again, little thumbnail views of those sites. Kinda like visual bookmarks and it's neat. Looks sorta like this.

They also have these things called widgets that I haven't gotten into at all.

I like how FF underlines a word in red when I misspell. Opera don't sing that.

Crane Pool isn't one of your top 9?

All of the sudden I can't get sound in Firefox3. I get sound in AOL and IE, so it's a Firefox thing. Any ideas on how I can fix it?

Fairy, Is it universal? Like no sound at all or is it just one page? If it is just one page it could be a compatibility issue. Did you have sound before and lose it?

But to Seo, you can get an addon that does that for FF.

But I couldn't live without adblock. Well, I could, but it would be annoying. My monitor died and my girlfriend didn't have it on her lap top and I couldn't stop getting distracted by all the ads everywhere. On top of that, I can block annoying sigs and avatars with adblock. I love that as well.

But I also use noscript. . .I don't like all those advertisement websites tracking my page usage especially when I don't know about it.

It was universal. But once I got over my initial panic, I decided to do a system restore. Everything's working again - whew!

WOW , Google has a new browser , Google Chrome.

I'm liking this a lot , very fast and like most things Google it's not flashy but works great.

I just heard about Google Chrome for the first time today. I just installed it now. So far, so good.

I've been playing with it a bit, and I am impressed. They were smart -- they cribbed all of Opera's best features, plus some of Firefox's.

I wish it were more customizable, though. I don't like some of the settings.
