I'm blacked out, inexplicably.

Gameday has new graphics, with the batter dressed in white and looking like a cricketeer.

Mets wearing road grey uniforms...

First time since 1997.

It truly is Dave Mlicki Day.

and blue socks!

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:09 PM

Charlie Samuels says it's in honor of the last Mets game at Yankee Stadium.

It's a good look. I hope it catches on.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:09 PM

And Keith Hernandez agrees with me!

seawolf17
Jun 27 2008 12:10 PM

Shouldn't the Mets have called up Jonathan Niese to pitch against Dan Giese? That would have been cool.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:15 PM

Castillo: Walk, SB.

Wright: RBI single to left.

seawolf17
Jun 27 2008 12:16 PM

I like this Wright kid. Gonna be a good player.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:16 PM

I think operation run-on-Jorge is in effect.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:24 PM

Pelfrey starts by fanning both Cabrera and Jeter.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:30 PM

Then he does the improbable by walking Abreu.

seawolf17 wrote:

We beat up on this guy, he can match up with Niese next week in the Eastern League.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:31 PM

Rodriguez pops it up, but it falls between Beltran and Castillo.

First and third, two out.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:31 PM

Credit that single to Castillo's knee?

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 12:33 PM

A bunch of new gamecast features, although I could do without the little pictures as you roll over the fielders.
C'mon Big Pelf.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:35 PM

AG/DC wrote:

Maybe. The effort was there, but the knee may have been the difference maker.

Meanwhile, Giambi flares a broken bat single to left to tie the game.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 12:36 PM

So, two bloops in a row? I don't like when lady luck wears pinstripes.

Gwreck
Jun 27 2008 12:40 PM

Gamecast is horrible. I wish they would go back to the 2006 (and earlier) version.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:43 PM

Getting the number-seven guy on is interesting, now that we have a manager with American League experience. In the AL, you can bunt, steal, or hit-and-run here. Under NL rules, those are mostly all off the table.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:44 PM

Thanks, Alex.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:44 PM

Marlon Anderson goes first to third on an infield single.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 12:47 PM

Even Omar's wearing a blue cap. (One with a blue, not orange, button on the crown.)

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 12:57 PM

Wow, button free.

Mets of the third inning ought not to blow their scoring chances like thier second-inning predecessors.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:06 PM

Is Posada wearing a glove?

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:06 PM

Another SB for Castillo. Wright batting with 0 out.

Keith, after the game, will tell Charlie Samuels to use the blue caps on the road more often.

And Wright skies to right, Castillo doesn't advance.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:09 PM

TWO-RUN HOMER TO RIGHT FIELD FOR BELTRAN!

3-1 Mets.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I smell a back-to-back from Delgado.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:12 PM

And Delgado strikes out.

I need to get my nose checked.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:13 PM

Gamecast watchers, Gameday has new features today also. Check it out.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 01:15 PM

Just what the teams wanted on this 2-stadium DH day - 1 hour 10 minutes to play 2-1/2 innings.

They're gonna need that cop escort and maybe a few helicopters.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:21 PM

Rodriguez raps one past Reyes to score Jeter.

3-2 Mets. One out in the third.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:25 PM

Yankees get ANOTHER pop-fly single, this time from Posada.

Loads the bases with one out.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 01:26 PM

How many FUCKIN bloops are thesee assholes gonna get?

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:26 PM

Hey, Carlos, if they hit it over your head, good for them. If they drop it in front of you, it's on you.

Centerfield
Jun 27 2008 01:29 PM

Another weak hit? Lucky MFY's.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 01:30 PM

I know what this sounds like but I swear these dorks get more cheezy hits than any other team.
All that's missing so far is a patented Gary Sheffield special where he tops one with that monster swing of his and gets a 30-ft swinging bunt.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:31 PM

Ron says this is happening because outfielders tend to play deeper in Yankee Stadium.

Jose made a nice play to steal a single from Cano. It was behind him when he dove and grabbed the grounder, then he turned and got the force at second. The throw to first was too late for what would have been a spectacular double play.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 01:44 PM

I was just about to mention another MFY special - the grounder with less than two out and runners on that'll be hit too shitty for a GiDP ... and ARod does just that.

So the inning continues

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:51 PM

Today's a day to grind it out, Big Pelf.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 01:53 PM

Well he's already up over 80 pitches so we're talking about 5, maybe 6, innings at best.
If he didn't get out of that inning he may be gone already.

4 innings = 1:40

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 01:54 PM

Run, Jose! Run like the wind!

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 01:55 PM

Yanks have the bottom of the order up next inning. Pelf can get through that.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:55 PM

Hah!

Two pitchouts in a row, and Jose wasn't running either time!

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:55 PM

Pitchout addicts.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:55 PM

And THEN Jose steals the base!

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 01:57 PM

I hope we piss off Girardi enough that he straps on his old gear and puts himself in the game.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 27 2008 01:58 PM

Jose showing that it's not very hard to outsmart the MFYs.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 01:59 PM

Walk, walk, sharp single by Wright.

Pitching change. Beltran due up with bases full and nobody out.

They HAVE to score at LEAST one run here. (Hopefully four!)

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 02:00 PM

Bases loaded and the new coach holds Jose at third.

Pitching change with our switch-hitting cleanup hitter up. (The Yankees have no lefties in the pen.)

I'm labeling this a big plate appearance.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:02 PM

Coulda been a DP, but it's a forceout.

Tying run scores.

NOW I'm smelling a homer by Delgado. This time I really mean it!

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 02:02 PM

Not sure I'm cool with Beltran going after the first pitch, but we get a runner home.

6-4 Mets!

Rockin' Doc
Jun 27 2008 02:06 PM

Your nose is getting better, Ben. Hopefully, the Delgado homer is coming later today and you're just picking it up early.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:11 PM

Inning ends with the Mets scoring three.

Not too shabby!

I'd like to see Pelfrey pitch a quick inning here so that he can also pitch the sixth. The more innings we can safely get from him today the better.

If he can go six, given his early struggles, I'd be delighted.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 02:12 PM

Game day put up Beltran's FC. That screw up was all Jeter.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:14 PM

With one out, a bad-hop single by Betamit.

86-Dreamer
Jun 27 2008 02:15 PM

why can't Marlon run to first on that slow roller? I'd like to see the gangsta sit him down for that.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:15 PM

Oops, scratch that: It's an error on Castillo.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:16 PM

The blue caps and the grey uniforms really do look good!

87 pitches for Pelfrey so far, with two out in the fifth.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 27 2008 02:17 PM

Capt. Intangibles never screws up. It must have been bad camera work by MLB.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 02:18 PM

That would have been your quick inning except for the Castillo error.

I remember all Yanqui infield errors in an earlier Subway Series getting blamed on the condition of the Shea infield. MFYs don't make errors otherwise I guess and shirley this error was all Castillo's fault not the field.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 02:18 PM

Let's wear the stirrups tonight.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:18 PM

Yeah, so much for the easy inning. Now Jeter's up with two on and two out.

Benjamin Grimm
Jun 27 2008 02:24 PM

And after a bunch of foul balls, Pelfrey gets Jeter to ground easily to Delgado.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 02:24 PM

But ... but ... but ... Jeter ALWAYS comes through against the Mets!

That's probably Pelfrey's last batter.

Centerfield
Jun 27 2008 02:24 PM

Great job by Pelfrey. I know it's a double-header, but I think I would tell him to hit the showers if I were Jerry.

Me too.

But if the Mets score three or four runs in the 6th, I might be tempted to squeeze another inning out of Pelfrey.

But with a two-run lead, I'd be inclined to go to the pen.

Castillo with a chance to atone for his error last inning.

The Mets need to get Wright and Beltran a shot at driving in some more runs.

Frayed Knot
Jun 27 2008 02:32 PM

Buncha leftys coming up next inning too - starting with Abreu leading off.

AG/DC
Jun 27 2008 02:35 PM

Jeter would have turned that double play if not for the field conditions at Shea.

It's a disgrace.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 27 2008 02:37 PM

I like the Yankees going to their pen to summon a guy with a 5.35 ERA here. Hopefully, Wright will burn him.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jun 27 2008 02:39 PM

Jeter .286/.345/.394/ 99 OPS+/ 3.5 WARP3/ 7 WS
Castillo .254/.356/.329(!)/ 86 OPS+/ 3.8 WARP3/ 7 WS
