sucks for willie, they should have let Hurdle bring whoever he wanted, even if it means willie unemployed wearing the NL-batting practice jersey

They got another old Yankee Stadium ghost, which gives them something to munch on in the booth.

Will this be the most un-watchable eleven hours of professional baseball ever?

I love the All-Star game but the combination of a) no Mets starters and b) hours of fawning over YS, will make it a tough watch. Also, MFY fans have no class and will boo Wagner and Wright. Still, we need the NL to win so the Mets will have home-field advantage in the WS.

Worth noting is that, given two chances, Hurdle has both times passed on including Torre on his staff.

Meanwhile, the rosters of the Futures Game have been announced. The Mets will be represented by Fernando Martinez on the world team and (sorta) by Davey Johnson managing Team America Fuck Yeah.

That's Stearns next to some guy who should have been in a Metly uni.

Mays as a the Honorary Captain (DiMaggio for the AL) and Denny Somers making the trip from Torre's staff as the batting practice pitcher sandwich Joe Nuxhall who was the BP pitcher.

I don't know if I've ever seen so much subtext.

Johnny Bench is being playfully cool about getting squeezed between two Hollywood hotshots who couldn't hold his jock.

Luzinski is looking over to Bench as if to say, "Say the word, Johnny, and I will gladly fuck Garvey up right here and now. Gladly. On camera."

Winfield and Gary Lavelle can't believe they showed up in softball uniforms.

Gossage is peeking over at Candeleria and Parker nervously wondering if they wore the right uniform and he fucked up. Then he realizes they're wearing different hats and the team is fucked up.

Schmidt and the Reds coach are desperate for the shot to be taken so they can spit some juice out.

Stearns: Tom, you've got serious wood.
Seaver: Ever since I left New York, John.

Morales is so happy to be there, he's privately wondering if anybody's ever been as happy as he is right now.

I don't think there's any mystery to what Rose and Cey are looking at. They're seventies ballplayers and they are on the prowl. Griffey and Smith are looking over there also.

I know these guys by face and number better than I'd know this year's all-star team, and these days I have the benefit of the internet.

NL teams Still Holding out in Buttondowns that Year: Dodgers, Expos, Mets, Phillies.

Putrid Pullover Pioneers: Reds, Cubs, Cardinals, Astros, Braves, Padres, Pirates, Giants. Sorry, Seaver. You got traded to a team that wears pajamas.

Worst 1977 NL road uniform is the Giants.

We did a lot of scouting at that game. Future Mets on that squad are: Foster, Candelaria, Seaver, Montaņez, Templeton, Morales, and Valentine.

These seven appeared in, of course, zero All-Star games for the Mets.

Pullovers aside, I have to give props to the Mets, Reds, Dodgers, and Braves for wearing grey road uniforms. The blue that the Cardinals, Phillies, and Expos are wearing look worse than I had remembered.

And why didn't the various Pirates get their caps and jerseys coordinated?
