ARod splitsville

ARod is ditching his wife for Madonna? Yikes, I thought she was Derek's turf. Potential Yankee clubhouse turmoil over an over-the-hill diva is a beautiful thing.

Actually, according to the Daily News, the wife ditched HIM for Lenny Kravitz.

How long until the rumors of an affair between Madonna and Cynthia Rodriguez start?

Female Co-Worker: "How old is A-Rod? 32? 34?"

Me: "32 I think."

F.C-W: "Would you do Madonna if you were 32 and she was 50?"

Me: "Well, it is Madonna"

F.C-W: "Sure, but she's 50."

Me: "Yeah, but even at 50 she looks amazing. She's in better shape than most 25 year-old women out there."

F.C-W: "She's 50."

I'd do Arod sooner than Madonna I think.

All things being equal - if there was a 50 year old woman out there that looked like Madonna and was in the same shape she is in and wanted to have sex with me, I'd have to consider it.

Now if you add to that, that the woman is in fact Madonna, I think I would absolutely knock boots with her.

It's Madonna.

You folks are nuts. You're looking at this from the perspective of your own sex-starved selves.

Look at it from the perspective of A-Rod. He's got, on one hand, the prospect of staying true to his marital vows and enjoying self-repsect and public esteeem, and the love and company of his wife and child.

On the other hand, he can risk that over any number (tens of thousands?) of women from 18-40 who would be happy and discreet and not treat you like a conquest to be devoured.

Are you really that horny that you want to be in Dennis Rodman's germ pool? Sheesh.

Yeah.

I'm not saying that he strayed. I'm saying that, of all the stupid reasons to stray, Madonna's got to be one of the stupidest.

I see your point.

Madonna, for me, would basically define my existence.

For him - not so much.

Centerfield
Jul 07 2008 10:54 AM

There's no way A-Rod hasn't strayed before. He had a very public incident with a stripper last year. If the choices were:

1. Stay faithful to your family

or

2. Bang Madonna

Then I'd pick 1. And so far, I, personally, have chosen to do that...taking a pass on all my chances to bang the Material Girl.

But, if I'm A-Rod, where my choices are

1. Bang lots of strippers, hordes of women, but not Madonna

or

2. Bang lots of strippers, hordes of women, AND Madonna

I'm going with 2.

Gosh McNugget why?

Madonna's gonna get you disgraced in the tabloids, embarassed in the locker room, and abused by the fans at home and on the road, and she'll probably destroy your game and devour your soul beofre she's done with you. I won't even mention Rodman again. OK, I just did, but I'm done now.

Is your curiosity so strong? She drove Sean Penn to enough insantiy that he got thrown in a cage. She's a megalomaniacal nutjob 18 years his senior.

My libido shrivels at the thought.

Maybe because my conscious thoughts about Madonna have amounted to maybe 5 or 10 minutes of my life, but this whole discussion reminds of of a story Michael Kay related back when Jose Canseco briefly played with the Yanx.
He said the team's bat boys were impressed with Canseco because he dated Madonna "back when it was still cool to do so"
And that was like 8 or 9 years ago.

I've never had sex with a 50-year-old, and don't expect to until 2021, when my wife reaches that age.

I'm 45 though, and am certainly capable of finding a 50-year-old woman to be attractive. Even lust-worthy.

I don't know that I felt that way when I was 32, though.

But that really is besides the point. Alex Rodriguez has to know that everything he does is under the microscope. If he couldn't get away with escorting an unknown stripper in Toronto, he certainly should have known that he couldn't keep an affair with Madonna under the radar.

One thing I saw said that they bonded over kaballah. (I'm not really sure what that is; some kind of ancient Hebrew mysticism, I think?) I really haven't been paying attention to the details. Other than that story about the Polo Ground stairway, the non-sports (and funnies) pages of the Daily News have been especially skippable lately. It's all Alex and Cindy Rodriguez, Christie Brinkley, and the Russian suicide model.

I stopped finding Madonna attractive about 20 years ago.

This also coincides with her music going from pappy to crappy.

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 07 2008 11:53 AM

Lines on the face don't make a woman unattractive.

I know I felt differently when I was 25, but my tastes have aged as I have.

If I was single right now, I'd be looking for a 40-something, not a 20-something.

AG/DC
Jul 07 2008 12:02 PM

My position is not that one should look past her for being 50 and or lined. (I actually think she's older.)

My position is that he should reject her for being a terrifying 50-year-old insane used-up succubus that'll haunt you until the day you die and beyond.

Alex may feel his soul is safely tucked away in Hank Steinbrenner's pocket, but he's wrong.

Did we learn nothing from Sunset Boulevard?

That's a point that I'm not going to dispute.

My hunch is that this isn't based on lust, but on spiritualism.

Why do you think so many celebrities are attracted to Kabbalah?

It's hard not to be catty when answering a question like this. Part of being a celebrity is being on the cutting edge, doing what's "cool" at the moment. That isn't to say that all celebrities are shallow-they're not. Some of them are totally dedicated to their religious, political, and cultural causes and very deliberately use their celebrity to raise consciousness. But when you're a celebrity, you're also something of a billboard-companies pay you to wear their sneakers or their jewelry. Similarly, religious groups might court you because of the money or the publicity value that you supply. A lot of celebrities got into Kabbalah because other celebrity friends got them into it-because of peer pressure.

It's worth noting that Madonna, Paris Hilton, Demi Moore, Britney Spears, Roseanne, et al get their Kabbalah from the Kabbalah Centre, which is very much the creation of one man, Philip Berg. Rav Berg has built the International Kabbalah Centres into a far-reaching empire, opening schools throughout the world and selling books, tapes, and products like "energetically blessed" bottled water. The relationship that the Kabbalah Centre enjoys with these celebrities is synergistic, to say the least.

Finally, celebrities are often spiritually needy. Fame and its trappings may be ultimately unsatisfying, and immersing themselves in the study of an esoteric discipline can fill a sense of spiritual emptiness. The popularized Kabbalah, with its red string bracelets to ward off envy and malice, can be especially attractive to people in the public eye.

I think that Rodriguez is drawn to the Kabbalah. If he had stumbled over Scientology instead, he'd be sneaking into Tom Cruise's apartment, which would make for even better headlines.

And marriages have been known to fall apart when one partner embraces a new belief and the other doesn't.

Not a Rachel Ray fan. Her body is way too cylindrical for me. And I think her boobs are very weird, like they grew out of her armpits or something.
I liked Giada at first, but the more I see of her and her big forehead and little teeth, the more I think of Flipper.
