Church is said to have had a migraine headache last night, not related to his head injury.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 06 2008 11:44 AM

Endy Chavez, last 28 days: a completely respectable .316 BA, .365 OBP. (Nevermind that .407 BABIP over the last week)

Zvon
Jul 06 2008 11:46 AM

Chavez singles in the 1st.
Wright and Beltran can't bring him around.

Zvon
Jul 06 2008 11:49 AM

Lead off walk for Werth.
Hopefully not an indicator of how Perez will pitch today.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 06 2008 11:50 AM

Ollie gives up a leadoff walk ahead of the big bats. Don't worry- that never comes back to hurt you.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 06 2008 11:54 AM

Utley misses a big fat fastball up in the zone in a hitter's count.

Vince Coleman Firecracker
Jul 06 2008 11:55 AM

Dammit! Delgado apparently glued up his glove before the game.

Zvon
Jul 06 2008 11:57 AM

That pop up to Wright was interesting.
Looks like David was a lil miffed Reyes didn't move off.

I saw Reyes jawin him and looks like Wright was ignoring him.
Left Reyes shaking his head.

Perez picks off Werth but Delgado can't execute the throw to 2nd in a timely manner.

J-Roll follows with an infield hit off Perez's leg.

1st and 3rd.

Enough with BABiP.

Unless we're gong to give equal respect to batting average discharged against batters in night games, the all-important BADABiNG statistic.

BIG K of Howard.

Thats the 120th time he's wiffed this season.

That and his .223 average makes his league leading 76 RBI amazing to me.

And Burrell pops out foul to 1st!
WOOT!

AG/DC

The glue comes in handy there.

Thirty pitches, no runs. I'll have to talke it.

That's a really startling stat. He's on pace for 218 K's this season. Wow. These power guys just don't care about striking out, do they?

Awsum play by Reyes on the grasscutter up the middle in the 7th.
Takes a single from Victorino.

Perez completes 7 and it's really nice to see him pitch another great game.
Up to 110 pitches.
The way he's going I'd be thinking try to squeeze him for one more and get the ball to Wagner.

But thats gonna be all for Perez.
Sanchez warming up.

batmagadanleadoff
Jul 06 2008 02:24 PM

With first and second and one out in the bottom of the eighth, Manuel's bringing in Feliciano to pitch to Ryan Howard.

I'd bring in Wagner here. The game's on the line right now. Wagner's the Mets best reliever and he is, conveniently, a lefty to boot. It's too bad that MLB has long ago, become slave to the save.

What happens if they never resume?

Does the entire eighth inning get wiped out, giving Perez a 7-inning CG/ShO?

Or (more likely) does it go into the books as a 7 and a half inning game? And do the Phillies stats in the bottom of the eighth count?

Gwreck
Jul 06 2008 04:21 PM

If they call it, it goes as a 7 inning game and the Mets stats for the top of the 8th are wiped. Yes, Perez gets the CG, SHO and W if that happens.

Mets have had 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1 & 1 baserunners in the first 8 innings and the only one that scored was the guy who knocked himself in.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 06 2008 05:34 PM

This is one of those times where Beltran's speed comes into play. Because if say Delgado was still in the cleanup spot, the sac bunt would prompt me to int. walk Wright and go for the DP.

Instead, Wright probably got the semi-int. walk (except he struck out instead).

The funny thing is that the single -- and only a single -- kept Schneider in the game.

If he had made an out, they would've switched him out for Castro, as the pitcher's spot would be leading off the next inning.

If he had gotten a double, they would've put in a pitcher to pinch run for him.

Keith has commented in the past that Delgado doesn't have the greatest footwork at first base.

Thats why he shouldn't use that move unless its totally necessary, IMO.
Just plant your foot on the bag and stretch.

Smith found his own at bat funny.
It was funny, but we all know he was busy thinkin how he's gonna set em down 1-2-3 in the 12th.

Looks on TV like Smith's pitches move like mine used to playin whiffle ball.

J-Roll with a lead off single.

Shift on for Howard.

Howard gets to see a righty. I fear.

Huge out by Joe Smith.

If Mike and the Mad Dog were in Philly, callers would be ready to trade Ryan Howard to Cuba after an 0-for-5 with four Ks.

Rollins steals second w/o a throw even tho Schneider popped up to throw as quick as anyone could.
He holds it.
Screws the shift to Howard.
And Howard pops out to left.
Whew.

And a great play by Jose Reyes to get Favre on the ground ball. Wow.

And the Phillies are down to their last out with the tying run at the plate, which means Feliz is going to hit this one into the Monongahela, or whatever river it is that's in Philly.

It feels like a playoff win. A friend was emailing me for updates while on a plane. The game was tied while he was getting on the plane and he "forgot" to shut off his Blackberry.

Whew!

Considering the way the Phillies were bouncing around on the field after the Friday night game, I think both teams are treating this series like a mini play-off.

We've clinched the tie - let's win this fucking series tomorrow night!

I don't care who it is if we don't straighten out the usage thingie. Why waste Smith on two to three innings per week?

Why waste anybody?
