Decent chance of a rain delay/rainout tonight.

Every time Carlos B. takes a called third strike it takes me back to that rainy night in 2006.

Swing the damn bat, man.

Old fashioned pitcher's duel tonight.

Look at Keef's old man glasses.

Ms. Wolf: "He looks more like a librarian than I do."

Castro with a 3-run KABOOM!

Just throw some fucking strikes Johan!

POURING rain with 2 outs in the top of the 4th. The umps letting them play for the out to make it official.

themetfairy
Jul 09 2008 06:38 PM

OK - it's an official game!

Nymr83
Jul 09 2008 06:38 PM

And it's time for Rain Delay Theater.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 09 2008 06:41 PM

That rain already cleared outta here, could be a shortie?

That provided an interesting kind of drama.

I liked the shots of Bruce Bochy looking dismayed.

And Randy Winn did Santana a huge favor by swinging at the first pitch.

So fucking true.

The language! And you're a mom!

soupcan
Jul 09 2008 06:55 PM

And while I'm here -

Gary, Keith, Ron - regarding the lower number of complete games, pitches, innings etc. -

Pitchers make LOTS of money these days, the people that pay them would rather they last longer. That's pretty much it.

themetfairy
Jul 09 2008 06:57 PM

Moms use language too :p

The tarp is coming off the field.

Nice rain delay killing by Gary, Keith and Ron. Most announcing crews wouldn't be able to handle this kind of thing in such an instructive way.

Yabbut, did you see yesterday's homer? The Freak threw a yakker that dropped from the letters to the cup that 'Los waited on perfectly to rip out. It really went a long way in exorcising that particular ghost for me.

In my notion of him, he usually fights the breaking pitch off (at best) to look for the fastball. He was all over it like a seagull on sick mollusk.

soupcan
Jul 09 2008 07:14 PM

You're totally right and I actually thought about that yesterday when he hit that ding-dong.

You know though, that K in '06 was so devastating that I still see it everytime he goes down looking.

Nymr83
Jul 09 2008 07:14 PM

a yankee fan i know was Carlos Beltran for Halloween in '06, he wore the jersey and a whiffleball bat... which was taped to his shoulder.

themetfairy
Jul 09 2008 07:20 PM

And we're back after a 42 minute rain delay.

All the more reason we need to get over it. The team lost that game, not Carlos. Yankee-fan-Nymr-knows can stick it.

You know, I was the Yankees for that same Halloween party. I didn't even get invited to the party.

Get it?

What soup said. I'm not meaning to say he watches a lot of great pitches fly by him. It's just when he does, that memory makes me want to puke.

Heilman comes in to pitch the 6th.

Frayed Knot
Jul 09 2008 07:38 PM

Not a great sign that Johan didn't come back out after the short-ish rain delay.

Either he's hurt which certainly isn't good.
Or he asked out which isn't great either.
Or mgmt is being overly protective of him on a night with a short turn-around which I don't love either.

The table is set for Mr. Wright in the 7th.

Come on, we need some insurance runs.

metsguyinmichigan
Jul 09 2008 08:04 PM

hey, just getting here. Did they say why Santana didn't come back? I'm guessing it was because of the rain?

Rockin' Doc
Jul 09 2008 08:05 PM

Wright grounds out to third without advancing the runners. Intentional pass to Beltran to load the bases with two outs. Bochy will take his chances with the red hot Easley.

Burn him Damion.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 09 2008 08:07 PM

Easley chooses a bad time to emulate Wright as he grounds to third to end the inning.

I don't think they said yet.

My guess is that wasn't Johan's call.

I like the late inning cushioning. Yet another activity the Mets have just started embracing recently.

Yay for the win.

I hated the sac bunts, especially Reyes's. The Mets normally find themselves hammered by the opposition for doing shit like that but the Giants look ready for the All-Star Break already.

I was out running and missed Gary's No. 6 discussion.

Funny.

At the behest of other members I have tried to behave myself a bit better. This is, after all, the home for INTELLIGENT, lively and provocative discussion.

Not to say that the next time Tommy Boy Steinbrenner says some inane thing I won't still use a dirty word.

They are channeling the San Diego version of the Mets from earlier this year methinks. Which is awful nice of them.

Basically summarized the situation and said "The Mets have two number sixes. You can't give away a guy's number while he's on the disabled list, right?"

AG/DC
Jul 09 2008 08:49 PM

"I mean, if you're on the DL, you can still sit on the bench, right?"

I think Trot Nixon is out of sight and out of mind.

Keith said something about how he thinks Charlie Samuels is losing it in his old age.

Keith is always so tactful.

Looks like a fastball to me.

Two fingers close together on the seams. I think a change has the fingers separated more for less 'oomph'.

But wtf do I know?
