Ollie sharp through the first 2 innings.

I like the Rockies moving Barmes back to short during Tulo's disability. So many teams are scared during an injury period to move a guy back to a position he lost.

TheOldMole
Jul 11 2008 05:59 PM

Can't believe Reyes made that double.

themetfairy
Jul 11 2008 05:59 PM

Bad decision/good result.

Jul 11 2008 06:08 PM

"Five to four to three, as pretty as can be!" Hagin just called the double play.

This guy has grown on me big time since the season started.

TransMonk
Jul 11 2008 06:10 PM

Yeah, I was pretty shocked that he tried it. I'm just glad he made it.

Ronnie thought it was a good decision with two outs.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:18 PM

I just got my new Met hat.
WOOT!
This is as sharp as Ollie.

This is my new lucky cap.

themetfairy
Jul 11 2008 06:22 PM

So much for the no-no.

1-0 Rockies on a Hawpe homer :(

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:23 PM

Well, maybe not lucky cap..... not for the Mets.
Could be lucky for me tho.

Hawpe homers.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:28 PM

Need the big 2 out RBI single from ya Jose.

themetfairy
Jul 11 2008 06:30 PM

Jose's RBI ties the game!

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:30 PM

YEA!

metsguyinmichigan
Jul 11 2008 06:34 PM

They do seem to be playing with more of a spark these days! Nice, Jose!

When we finally do get a no-no, it wouldn't surprise me if it's someone like Ollie, who can be lights-out once in a while.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:35 PM

Chavez beats one out! 1st and 2nd.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:36 PM

WOW.
What a play to get Wright.
Surprised that wasn't closer at 1st, but it was hit way hard.

TransMonk
Jul 11 2008 06:38 PM

David looked a little more than mildly pissed that Barmes had another great play to get him.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:49 PM

Did I just see flames behind the bullpen?

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 06:50 PM

Perez walks the bases full.
GET OUTTA THIS OLLIE!

themetfairy
Jul 11 2008 06:50 PM

The flames are in the picnic area.

And Ollie looks like he's ready to implode!

seawolf17

Ah, poor Aaron Heilman. You know he's giving up runs here, and he's going to get booed even though it's on Perez. Fucking hell.

Agree , fun game to watch.

Jul 11 2008 08:05 PM

Time to root against, uh, Jayson Werth and other guys I've never heard of.

Most importantly, Matt Holliday's hitting streak gets halted at like 14 or something.

Fman99
Jul 11 2008 08:05 PM

Fourth straight game where the Mets held their opponent to three hits. That's some good pitching right there.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 11 2008 08:12 PM

I wouldn't walk around expecting to win games like this everyday, but while the Magic is Back, what can ya do.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 08:15 PM

Utley on 3rd w/2 out in the 9th.

Extra innings there.

The picnic area isn't behind the Mets bullpen though. Did the announcers ever address it?

It was weird cause I saw it thru the material cover they have on that fence/wall on the back of the bullpen.

D'backs threatening, man on 3rd in the 10th, 2 out.

themetfairy
Jul 11 2008 08:32 PM

Kalas REALLY thought Coste's ball would drop, but it was caught.

Victorino on second, 2 out, bottom of the 10th, and Howard being intentionally walked to get to Werth.

Zvon
Jul 11 2008 08:36 PM

Werth pops out!

Glad to see a game the Phils phans must be sweating thru.

themetfairy

True dat!

We took the kids to Fireworks Night in Cleveland in 1995. That one went 14 (they even had a 14th inning stretch).

First time any NL team has done it since 1920 says Sportscenter.

Woulda liked the offense to show up today, but it was Cook, who's a pretty good pitcher.

Liked to see Jerry playing for the win with Evans pinch running, but if he wanted to bunt there anyway, why not Santana instead of burning Argenis Reyes?

Fun times are back at Shea.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 11 2008 09:27 PM

Second time that Easley shocked the Rockies with a late-inning HR to spoil a strong effort by Cook, btw.

Throwing up a pinch-hitter to bunt is my new pet peeve.

Guys, you have only four batters on your bench, one of whom is your backup catcher. You want to bunt? Leave Lefty in there, or send out another starting pitcher. He does it all the time and he knows how to do it at least as well as Sluggo on the bench. Yeah, you lose the element of surprise, but how much is that worth after the first pitch when Sluggo squares as soon as the pitcher comes to astop.

The biggest obvious difference between this game and any one of a number of
games earlier in this season is that this time they GOT the third out (on several
occasions) instead of almost getting out of the inning as was all too common.

I'd bet that our 2-out runs-allowed pct is falling back towards normal levels. When I
checked a few weeks back it was by far the highest in the league.

Was in attendance for this one. Good, tight, tense game. Fun one to be at.

I'm now 2-5 after starting the season 0-4.
