Felix "King" Hernandez made his first start since incurring a sprained ankle covering home plate against a Carlos Beltran slide. He lost 3-1 to the Royals.

How tough is it for Seattle? Hernandez's effort was supported by a team that batted Jose Vidro cleanup. Jose checked into the game at .217 / .265 / .316 / .581. Even when he could hit, he was nobody's cleanup guy.

Marlins rookie Chris Volstad nearly shut the Dodgers out in his first big league start, not letting anybody reach second until the ninth, when he tired and left with one out to go in what ultimately was a 3-1 win.

Definite X-Factor for the race here.

Halliday 2-hits the Yanx - his 7th complete game of the season

But Boston and TB lose also. That's 5 in a row by TB including 2 straight to Cleveland who were coming off a 12 game losing streak

Atlanta shut out again.
At least it was Peavy this time so that's somewhat of an excuse but they're now
13 - 32 on the road and are a season high (low) 7 games under .500
