Kerry Rhodes reading the mets lineup on FOX.... lets hope he doesnt bring the Jets losing ways with him

The Mets draw first blood. Tatis' single drives in Beltran, who had previously stolen third base.

Who'd a thunk that Tatis would be clutch like this? Guess we should have given him a shot last year.

Meanwhile, there's a lot of concern in the Mets dugout concerning Pedro. It looks like Nick Evans is going to pinch hit for Pedro in the bottom of the 4th. This can't be good.

metsguyinmichigan

Evans was the best they had? And Pedro with a 1-hitter going? What's going on?

D-Backs score eight in the top of the fourth and lead the Phillies 10-2. Not that I'm scoreboard watching here, but I am.

WHAT"S

GOING

ON?!

Pedro is the Moises Alou of pitching, that's what's going on.

We haven't received an official report, but there's speculation about Pedro's groin.

Either that or he was making a gesture at this banal announcing crew. Which would be understandable.

Per Howie Rose: Pedro - right shoulder tightness. Removed for precautionary reasons. Pedro wanted to remain in game.

I have the game on but no sound, so I'm relying on the Fairy to keep me abreast of Pedro updates.

Ka-Boom J. Reyes!

2-0 Mets

You can't rely on me for long. I'm heading to Trenton to see The Youth of America shortly.

TheOldMole
Jul 12 2008 03:26 PM

And Batmag, of course.

I can't rely on anyone for long.

Pedro somehow indicated to FOX reporter Ken Rosenthal (sign language?, smoke signals?, semaphore?) that he has a strained groin but that he's being more precautionary than actually injured.

So until further notice, that's their story and they're sticking to it.

Jose Reyes since getting yanked off first base in Manuel's first game as skipper (NL rank encompassing same time period for all batters in parentheses)

BAVG .333 (11)
OBP .394 (13)
SLG. .495 (25)
Runs 18 (2)
Triples 5 (1)
Walks 10 (15-Tied with many)
SB/CS 7/3
RC27 7.41 (16 -Min. 75 plate appearances)
RC 19.2 (8)

(Not including today's game)

I still say Pedro was making a gesture towards him.

Schneider drives in Delgado to make it 3-0 :)

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 12 2008 03:52 PM

Schneid with an RBI double, 3-0 good guys.

Anderson digging in with freshly thick beard

And here I was just about to chastise Endy for bunting into Schneider and the bottom of the lineup ... and it works.

It's still not a good play - even though he was more bunting for the hit than a sac.

Muniz being PH'd-for is winless in MLB but should be in line for this one if the lead holds.

Two inning stints from our relievers is a good thing.

Drink a beer every time that happens, and every time Schneider gets an extra-base hit, and it's a rare, rare two-beer inning for you.

Cool vertical picket fence happening, with eight hits, one for each slot in the lineup minus the pitcher's.

Funny how all this winning can make me lose the hat of this game.

Four runs in five games given up, not too shabby.

Books!

5-pitcher, 1-hitter

Firefly was an awesome show.

1-hitter! We're moving in the right direction!

Since the pen's near-debacle in Philly during the 'They win the damn thing' game:
18-1/3 IPs, 0 R, 2 H, 4 BBs

Who knew Brad Hawpe would be the end of the day.

Get better, Pedro.

Another solid win. The Rockies are a truly awful team.

Not mentioned here:
Jerry and Ray Ramirez were out for a visit with Pedro in the 3rd but they went back to the dugout quickly.

Robinson Cancel now wearing #40.

Big crowd. Was delayed getting to the game (arrived in 2nd inning) and the line was still several people deep at each ticket window to buy tickets.

From the ESPN recap:
]"...the one-hitter made the Mets the first team in modern baseball history to allow three hits or less in five consecutive games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau."

Shoulder, groin - what's the difference?
