But I'll go ahead and do so anyway. Billy's got a future in sports radio.

OK, I'll say it: Billy Wagner, 2008, under Randolph: 29 Innings pitched, 7 ER, 34 SO, 2.17 ERA Billy Wagner, 2008, under Manuel: 7 Innings pitched, 3 ER, 8 SO, 3.86 ERA Thing is that I agree with Wagner, mostly. But it's guys like Wagner that can drive a manager to institute draconian policies.

Ninth-inning closers play for stats more than anyone else. They generally only get called into games when it's a cherished "save situation."

Someday, some player (quite possibly Billy Wagner) will praise Jerry Manuel's successor for tightening up the ship, instilling a professional attitude and getting those bleeping kids out of the clubhouse.

Greg -- no manager stays effective forever, and probably both guys will be right -- Billy and the future discipline-praising Met.

Jerry may not be A Winner, but he's A Met.
