Iran Part II

More sabre/saber/sabr-rattling overnight as (1) Iran test-fires nine missles, (2) Iran rains shells on the Kurdish region of Iraq, and (3) six people (no Americans) are dead as the American consulate in Turkey is attacked by unidentified assailants.

Anyone else see the report that American exports to Iran are up? I liked Mccain's response.

]Republican presidential candidate John McCain, asked about the cigarette exports to Iran as he campaigned Tuesday in Pittsburgh, cracked, "Maybe that's a way of killing them." He quickly added, "I meant that as a joke," and said he wanted to learn more about the export situation. "This is the first that I've heard about it," he said of the Associated Press analysis

That joke is going to cost him a lot of donations, I imagine.

I'd like to study the brainwashing techniques used on namor83.

What's to like? It's bad enough they all hate us and put words in the mouths
of everyone and then a presidential candidate gives them direct quotes.

Praising a statement like that from a possible Commander in Chief is insane.

Often what's likeable about McCain as a guy --- and even as his image of Senator StraightShootinDude --- is what's bad about McCain as a presidential candidate. He just doesn't exhibit a judicious presidential temperament.

it was funny and thats why i liked it.

they (the iranian government) don't need to pretend that comical quotes were meant seriously in order to hate us, they just make stuff up anyway.

And there are many many dissidents in the country we want to get on the good side of, and we won't with jokes about how we export death and profit from it, with products that no are no longer a domestic boon.

McCain's a fascinating guy, and policy-wise, I have a lot in common with him. But he's got a really unpredictable disposition.

he's got an "i don't care if people get offended" sense of humor, something that i can certainly relate to.
i'll say this though, he may be to my left but i recognize that any other republican would probably be getting trounced alot more than him

I can relate to that also.

It's not what a president should be brandishing though. Reagan once made a quip out of the side of his mouth and the Soviet Far East Army started scrambling.

i had to look it up. pretty funny also, and it was not meant to be heard (and was in fact never broadcast, it was published by a foreign reporter.)

theres a long list of funny/dumb things people say when they think nobody is listening. jesse jackson just had one oof those moments, ariel sharon had one a few years back (i forget what it was now), someone should really research and compile them it would make a funny book "When they thought the camera wasn't rolling..."

Well, you're certainly not going to get me to use Jesse Jackson and "presidential temperament" in any sentence but this one.

Jesse looked so comically foolish that you'd almost think he was trying.

Between him, McCain, and Gramm, it was like "Say Something Stupid Day."
