Keith and Gary are miffed by Barry Larkin's speech running long!

Barry crying on the field.

If there's such a thing as a Reds Hall of Fame, he belongs as much as anybody. Good for him. Good for them.

Cesar Geronimo, eh.

Another rainbow by Reyes.

50th Anniversary of the Reds Hall of Fame, and they were inducting 90s SS Barry Larkin, Big Red Machine CF Cesar Geronimo, 60s pitcher Joey Jay the Reds president from 1902-1927 August "Garry" Herrmann.

Other than Rose, I think he is the last of the BRM's classic starting lineup in the Reds Hall.

Thats Perez, Morgan, Concepcion, Rose, Foster, Geronimo, Griffey Sr. and Bench.

Hit it to Votto. Pass it on.

That's because he wasn't that hot. Good defender who spent the middle part of his career a Red, but hit only maybe once or twice.

I can't think of a Mets comparable. Jery Grote, I guess. He's in, so why not.

Big Red Machine Trivia. Who played the most games for the Reds in the '70s among players not elected to the Reds HOF?

Too easy, and he was mentioned already, Peter Edward Rose 1970-1978.

I forgot that Rose isn't in the Reds HOF. The answer I was looking for would be the next guy. Who is ........?

Driessen?

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2008 06:12 PM

Votto's throw was a touch low and to the outside, but it wasn't terrible. I think it likely should have been caught Fogg, but He seemed to short arm it when he reached for it. It appeared like Fogg heard Beltran's footstep and was concerned about a possible collision at first base. Either way, I'm sure the Mets are grateful for the gift.

That's got to be three factual errors out of the Red's booth already.

Gary Cohen just segued from Reds HOF commentary to remind viewers that the Mets also have a HOF! Cohen wondered if many Met fans even know that this HOF exists and noted the trophy case on the Diamond Club level. (Sarcastically, I think, though in a matter of fact good natured voice). Cohen also commented that no Met has been inducted into its' HOF since 2002 and that the team hasn't had a meeting to induct a new Met "in years", perhaps implying no meetings at all since 2002.

I think that Wilpon's waiting for someone to convince him to erect a pop art sculpture of the number 42 in centerfield. On the field. The sculpture would be in the Robert Indiana style. Like this:

Maybe the sculpture could illuminate itself with flashing lights like a police car siren whenever a Met hits a Home Run. Or a Dodger. Whatever. Same thing.

Great job by whomever brings us the Extra Innings package. On Thursday, and again tonight, they are providing both the home and away feeds. I don't recall them ever providing more than one feed but they have extra room tonight with all the games already played.

Aflac question has me stumped. The Reds pitcher who lost to the Mets the most times?

I'm gonna say... um... Jose Rijo?

batmagadanleadoff
Jul 19 2008 06:50 PM

Ollie Perez is working on a full facial beard. I've been wondering if all this recent facial hair sprouting on the Mets isn't a silent shot at Wee Willie.

We should talk Ollie into a tattoo that says "Walks Kill".

Chavez shows bad things can hap when you hit it on the ground.

KC
Jul 19 2008 07:57 PM

No way they lose this game.

That Lincoln curve ball to Wright was tough to watch.

Ya gotta cringe when innings end under any circumstances with
Beltran not swinging at strike three.

Weathers and Cordero vs. the bottom half of the order to look forward to.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 19 2008 07:57 PM

I hate it when they forget they took a bat to the plate with them. Bases loaded for Wright and Beltran with one out and they both opt to do some window shopping. If they throw strikes, you have to be hackin'.

I really hope that the 10 game winning streak wasn't just these assholes yanking our chain. Nothing terribly inspired about the last 2 nights after the comeback on Thursday.

Maybe Jerry should flip over some buffet tables.

themetfairy
Jul 19 2008 08:18 PM

The strikeout was too fucking little, too fucking late.

TransMonk
Jul 19 2008 08:24 PM

It's hard to second guess Jerry when Argenis got the hit, Wright was 3 for 3 going into his last AB, and it worked on Thursday...but for my money, late inning defense trumps late inning offense in a tight game.

I wonder if the Reds would be up by 5 if Endy was in RF (edit) last inning.

I thought that Jerry should have PH Castro for Schneider against the lefty but even if Castro got on, he would have been LOB.

Valadius
Jul 19 2008 09:00 PM

I think we have to sprinkle the ashes of a red heifer on Michigan (this is a Jewish purification ritual from olden times), as something's gotta be up when you've got an 18-game winless streak.

Actually, It's now 11 games over 17 years.

They're killing me.

Freaking Beltran. Did he swing once during that entire at-bat? And he was kicking the ball all over the place out there.

On the bright side, since Sunday is a day game, I'm able to stay and picked up a ticket. My buddies can't make it, so it's just me.

It's will be my fourth Mets game this year! They gotta win one!

Rockin' Doc
Jul 20 2008 07:11 AM

If the Mets lose again today with MGIM in attendance, then I propose we all kick in and buy him tickets for the remainder of the Phillies home games (except when the Mets visit of course) in hopes of him transferring his cursed, bad luck to them.

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 20 2008 07:35 AM

Instead, I think we should go to his house with pitchforks and torches.
